This was not Ross being petty. He did it all to hide his emotions... You could see how hurt he was when Rachel gave him the box. Except the door.. That was petty
leaving the door open like that was a telltale sign that this was petty. but I do understand where Ross is coming from. he came into the room expecting to get back together; instead Rachel handed him his stuff so they could both move on. Ross was not ready to move on yet at this point.
Rachel was the one actually being petty. She cherry picked the stuff which she wanted to return while keep few things (like the book and the Tshirt) which she actually liked. She was so doing it out of spite.

She only ruined Bonnie and his relationship. Rest he ruined himself. He invited Rachel to his wedding with Emily, then when she gets there, he says her name at the alter.

David Schwimmer ( Ross ) is an amazing actor , he has a physical comedy and also he has a little sarcasm ( not so good as Chandler obviously ) , his reactions are amazing , my favorite is the "18 pages Front and back" , he totally rocks on the show

In fact, all six characters were funny in their different ways. Ross was nerdy and self righteous, Joey was dumb and idiotic, Phoebe was innocent and naive, Monica was obsessive and Rachel was the embodiment of feminine vanity. All the characters use their elements for humor effectively but Chandler's humor is a bit more deliberate since he cracks a lot of jokes. That's why people say he's the funniest. In reality, all 6 characters are funny and all of them make us laugh.

All their humors are different. There is no such thing as humor for introverts or humor for extroverts. Both introverts and extroverts can enjoy both their humors. Chandler is funny because he's intentionally so and that's why he has the image of 'the funny one'. Regardless of what their 'thing' is, all characters have the potential to be funny to everyone.

Ashcool what the dude is essentially saying is that Ross is more unpredictable the way he acts much like an introvert might act when they try to get out their emotions. So I kinda get what he’s saying. Either way, from an acting standpoint I don’t care if you’re an extrovert or introvert you have to admire him for his comedic range and timing.
Their fights are hilarious , the first part of their first break up , the tiny t-shirt ,the Chip Matthews's prank , but the best one is the 18 pages Front and Back 😂

The creators said they wrote the part specifically for him. That's why he embodies it so well.
That whole "AND I'm gonna leave the door open" gesture made me spit out my drink the first time.
I always hated the "will they or won't they" between Ross and Rachel, but at the same time, I understand why the writers did it. The chemistry between these two actors was always remarkable.
They say that each one of the actors were funny in their own ways but you need to understand that there are lines that are based on a good or bad script but Ross lines depend more on David's good acting, voice modulation and impressive reactions. PD: I'm not a native English speaker, So I might have written some things incorrectly.
