Mr. Hackathorn Thank-you!!!! I have questioned every channel operator regarding their self-defense shooting presentations! Why? No one draws from concealment???? They are in range shooting dress! They have their firearm, in a custom holster that for the most part isn't even part of their daily carry gear! THIS video is/was much needed! Again, Thank-you for making this "sensible" approach video! Best to ya',,,,!
Because not everything is about self defense. Some people use guns to play games like IDPA, USPSA and steel challenges. I use drills so I can better myself in playing my games on weekends with my "toys". It's fun, relaxing and I meet different people at each match. We used this drill at our last game day. It was a lot of fun. So it didn't confuse anyone we used three targets.
@WilsonCombat Keep these coming! Excellent Material. Ken needs to write a book with all these drills, their purpose, and history. Maybe have other instructors can include theirs too.
Sage advice from a master of the firearm. Youre right about using your finger to guide the mag into the weapon. Sweet 1911 as well! Thanks Ken & Wilson Combat.
Completely agree with switching the Mozambique around. The single well aimed shot is the most effective use of a firearm so aim for the head shot then just keep squeezing as fast as you can while holding slightly lower. I double tap as fast as I possibly can aiming for the head and get a headshot and center mass shot every time with my 1911 at 15 yards. When you start out it's easy to hit the belly but with practice the second shot will tighten up into the heart and lungs area.
Yes, this is good training for new shooters, and what I refer to as “upkeep” for regular shooters. I always wear a long sleeve dress shirt unbuttoned with sleeves rolled up in summertime, thus the need to swipe the cloth of the shirt out of the way. When I practiced this as a younger shooter; I accidentally grabbed the pistol with a bit of cloth from the shirt in the way thus fumbling the draw. Now as an older shooter I of course no longer have that as an issue however practice makes perfect because without training your skills regress.
I will refer to this video as part of my training regiment! There are other guys I refer to as well. There is another method of clearing the fiream from outer garment as well. It is called the "Dracula" method. I imaginge Ken is well aware of that method as well. But, It requires additional dynamics that may some tossed people a curve ball? Supposed to have been created by a Chicago (?) Undercover Detective years ago. But, Ken is a Master! Like Bill Wilson said, "I've been asking Ken to write a book for years"! It would probably be a tremendous selling book for older experienced shooters as well as a great introduction for new shooters! Best to ya',,,,!
I hardly ever see anyone accomplishing these type of drills with having to move a buttoned or pull over shirt as cover out of the way. Where I live, no one wears a jacket due to heat in summer. It's one thing to quickly sweep an unbuttoned jacket out of the way verses having to move shirt as cover for IWB carry. I can accomplish many of these drills one to 2 seconds faster with only having to sweep a jacket out of the way, but when dealing with real summer clothing concealment it simply takes longer. To add to this, I remove my shirt cover with same hand as shooting hand for a couple reasons. This takes a bit longer also. I used to remove cover with weak hand till one day I had to move a loved one out of the way with my weak hand before I could draw safely. Plus you never know when you may need weak hand to block a blow or other close quarter action. I shoot all my competition with my day to day shirts I normally wear for reality just in case. I realize many shoot competition with shoot me vests for purely competition sake, I don't think this is realistic IF you are trying to mimic a draw from you day to day carry.
I've been wanting to practice head shot with more stress added. This looks like a good drill for that. Also, since the Bill Drill is shot first you get a time for that too.
I can get twelve shots without reloading if I use two revolvers. My primary is a 4 inch .357 Mag S&W Model 65-1, and my second is a 2 inch .38 Spl +P Taurus 856. I can actually conceal them under a Hawaiian shirt, but I usually wear a vest or a sport coat. My usual initial drill is to shoot 6 rounds with my primary using two hands, then draw my second one handed and shoot 6 rounds. Any suggestions on how to modify the B-F-M drill for my revolvers?
Being old school I shoot from the hip like fast draw western style Bbb brain body balls shoot until no more threat. Leg shots bleed out 3 minutes chest shot is always good head shots the best I shoot 45acp 45 long colt derringer and 380 pocket as a backup. Carry 2 of these and a slap jack. Avoidance is the best defense get training and ccw insurance. This all has to be reaction
Our club came up with two drills which appear to be very simple but need good concentration and we have found that anyone shooting them for the first time will almost always fail. Is there any chance these two drills can be used by you in another segment? It would mean a lot since one is named after a deceased Marine Master Sergeant who was a Vietnam veteran.
Thx for the Video. Respectfully U R having a Gun , that majority of working Class peaple ( Slaves ) that R wrking minimum wages Can never effort. EVER. Nevertheless. I love ur teaching. Thanks you Sincerely. Cheers
Outstanding drills! However, I noticed in your work space how you cant your gun to load the next mag. That is time wasted here at this point and here's why. I can go through this same drill or similar with my Walther PPS (H&K offers some models with the paddle/European mag release) which utilizes a paddle/European mag release WITHOUT canting the gun, keeping the gun in the line of sight while grabbing the next mag. No canting. Precious time saved. Now, I know and understand the American market prefers the button style mag release behind the trigger guard, a la M1911, etc. but, I maintain that the button style mag release is a hindrance to speed of loading the next magazine and you take your eyes off your target, especially if it is a moving target. Just my opinion. Otherwise, great demonstrations!!!
OK, I like some of your stuff, but this BFM drill is way over the top. 1st, I'm a firm believer in the "Mozambique Drill " as it saved my life numerous times. But, you're teaching people to "over kill" and waste ammo. Number one rule: Shoot them till they go down, never more than that. " I'm sorry Judge, he went down on the second shot, but I still had ten more , so I kept shooting . . . . "
Yeah I totally agree wouldn't be justified in court. Also I really like the Mozambique drill . It's simple,a good confidence builder and a practical one that could definitely put a threat down. Especially since there's history of it actually working.
Sounds like a lot of amo used just shoot 2 in the chest 1 in the head and call it a day you practice this and you shoot in a self defense situation get a great lawyer on why you went crazzy shooting a bad guy.just saying.wow
The older I get the more I appreciate seasoned instructors. Thankyou for this!

Have someone else load your mags with a random amount of rounds. Otherwise you know there's only 2 rounds.
Even in USPSA, I carried my pistol in a Galco Yaqui, as far back on the right hip as allowed...
Great drill taught by a legend. Thanks ken and wilson combat!
Another fine block of instruction by Mr. Hackathorn!
Please keep doing gun guys. We love watching the 3 MUSKETEERS!

Good Stuff, Ken !! Always like no BS instruction !!!
Never cease to teach something new. Absolutely amazing video
Looks like a great drill. Definitely gotta add it to my list. Thanks Ken. Been reading you and Mas since the mid 80's
Thank you Ken. You are the best.
Priceless. Thank you...and thanks to Wilson Combat.
Played around with this drill today! Thanks for the drills. Keep them coming
You bet!
Mr. Hackathorn is the man!!!
That is a cool drill! I'll be trying that this weekend!! Thanks!
Nice lesson, great shooting! Thanks!

Thank you sir!!! Definitely appreciate your videos.
Thanks for another great drill. On my way to range now to see what I score!

Lather holster are still the best and the most fascinating on the market...
No funzy stuff, for serious people.
Will definitely add the BFM drill to the list for the range. Now where can I get starburst ivory grips?!?!
This would be super cool combined with multiple targets like an El Presidente.
Love the sunglasses, what brand are those?

Great drill
Dropped at least one, showed a different run results at the end. Gotta love edited footage for best results.
No one cares.
Yes, master!
How is this drill with a revolver?

As Col. Cooper said " you need good sights and a good trigger". Everything else is icing on the cake.
In one video with bill Wilson he says don't use slide lock to chamber another round...and here he is doing what he says is bad for a 1911
Just went to the range and tried it. I am apparently a “C” student 😩 14.77 seconds
Ran this drill yesterday for the first time. Got 19 seconds and missed on the very last shot.
Can he still perform other shooting positions in spite of his age?
"Old school" didactics are unbreakable....
Surprised you guys run leather holsters still.
What holster are you using.
What holster are you using
I think I'll just insert my 15 rd mag and skip the mag reload part......
dat 116710BLNR though.
Why choose a 1911 vs a revolver?
@Grime Fork HAHAHA You Glock fan boys crack me up. You have a lovely, cheap, plastic gun. Congrats. go enjoy it and stop bothering the serious adults.
70 plus yr old young man! Aged cheese and fine wine
What makes this person even more impressive to me is he is using iron's
Is there anything else??? This isn't a battery operated toy!
FUNNY HOW THEY PAINTED THOSE FLYERS WITH WHITE PAINT BEFORE THEY FILMED THE END OF THE VIDEO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are you using the 45 or 9mm ?
lol maybe watch the video for the answer.

Trims his stache with a hack special
I'd like to spend a day with Ken. I'm sure I'd be much better under His tutelage.
Ken, IDPA drilled it into you, “No steel targets at less than 10 yards.” Is this style of target an exception to the rule?
At a privileged age, he's still got it!
Message Received, 5/5 - click,click!🤣

What does Bill fucking Murray have to do with this?
