@@pamp212 I got both of mine as a certified refurbished model. The first one worked for 10 years, before it "walked" off my counter and bent a part. The classics are apparently not made to do a bunch of bread. But I got the pro model years ago and I use it so much, and as a refurbished it was only a few hundred. I use it at least 3 times a week in the winter. Bread, pizza dough, rolls and cookies. I love it so

Trader Joe’s is just a normal grocery store with some cheaper options. It’s not really comparable to Whole Foods. That being said, there are cheaper options elsewhere for most items that can be found at Whole Foods. There are a select amount of specialty healthy options that are cheaper at Whole Foods however. And prices have gotten better since Amazon bought them. Your best option (if you can) is always to shop at multiple stores to get the best prices. In my experience, there isn’t just one store that has the best prices/deals overall, or even the best healthy options.

There was a day that we loved Disneyland! We surprised our two little girls (kindergarten and first grade) at a hotel across from Disneyland! They cried because they just wanted to swim in the pool! That surprise was captured on video! Need I say we learned a lot on that trip! When they were middle school and high school we had a blast!! Now sadly it holds no appeal to us with all that has changed! Five grandchildren later we are planning a vacation to a Family Camp in Montana that we also took our kids to growing up. Can't wait!! Instacart used to be okay. Small markups and if you paid for the yearly membership all you had to worry about was the tip. Now it is so bad. We have a local service called Buncha that I use when I need delivery. Flat $1.45 delivery fee no matter how big the order, and no markup on items. Just worry about the minuscule delivery fee and tip.

Stroller wagon! I paid $200 for mine, it folds up small and is PERFECT for a bunch of little ones or larger families. Again, you can spend a fortune on these but I found a cheaper version that folds up smaller. It’s like a utility wagon with seat straps, more storage and a push bar. I think Delta Children makes it. It holds multiple ages of kids and all the junk…

Here's the thing, I have 4 Kitchenaids that I keep on top of my fridge, and I didn't pay full price for any of them. I found them all at yard sales or pawn shops ranging from $6 to $80 at the most (you can talk most pawn shops down in price). I had a fifth that I got for $40 and repainted to gift to a cousin for her graduation because she loved to bake and was going to culinary school. My oldest KitchenAid is from 1946, and it still runs beautifully. They're beasts that go forever, and they're beyond easy to maintain. I don't find it difficult to bring down to use personally though I know why that would be harder for others.

Whole foods "used to be that store Dave" but now it is owned by Amazon. Their producers of "farm raised shrimp" in Thailand. (8600 miles away). Claiming what a fantastic facility. They used to sell wild caught Texas Gulf Shrimp. I waited for a sale to have Nice juicy large shrimp in my freezer but no more. That is why I started shopping at HEB. It is 16 miles in the opposite direction. But HEB sells Texas Wild Caught shrimp also Louisiana shrimp and crawfish plus all thing HEB yummy.

Disney World is worth it. It's so magical and wonderful. Things I think that aren't worth it... fake nails, constant fancy hair color treatments, purchases within apps like candy crush, sims, etc. I love my kitchen aid mixer. I use the spiralizer plus peeler and corer a ton when I am processing my garden produce. I love the pasta maker attachment. Kitchen Aid is a great brand as well. I have expensive sunglasses.. what makes them expensive is that they are prescription! ETA Hi Speedy! You gotta bring the kids to Cincinnati to go to Kings Island or Cedar Point up in Sandusky OH. Best roller coasters!

As a former professional cake decorator, I do love my KitchenAid mixer. When you're doing larger cake sizes like half sheet pans or tiered wedding cakes that use multiple boxes of cake mix, the KitchenAid mixes them up more efficiently than a hand mixer. Same for large batches of frosting. That said, some things that I feel are a foolish waste of money are eating out all the time, paying for too many streaming subscriptions (music, TV etc.) and expensive name brand designer clothes. I live in a rural area of the Midwest and trust me, no one knows or cares if you have a Prada or Gucci purse. 😂

I watched this yesterday and agree so much with you and Dave!! I think at some time you, Christine, and I were "thought-twins" or something!! With my 2 sons (your age!), we had a 2nd hand dresser and crib we bought for $35... all of the kid accouterments were garage sale finds, as were their clothes! I don't understand the "I want everything new for MY baby" way of thinking! Pink jackets on my boys were fine... they were warm... they slept good in their used crib... and debt wasn't killing the finances monthly.
My current husband and I have both started over twice, both lived paycheck to paycheck forever, and now in retirement, the only debt we have is 1 credit card that is paid off every month, plus the monthly bills. We use Ibotta and Fetch, and our credit card earns money back, with no annual fee (I refuse to pay fees or interest on anything). Any major purchases are paid in full, no financing. We still get most clothing items at thrift stores or garage sales. We use our local "Buy Nothing" group or Goodwill for home decor, and some furniture items as well. No one needs new if used will do. Period.
Disneyland? I went in 1963 and 1964, only because my uncle took all of us down... I've never felt guilty for not taking my own kids.
We've never had groceries or meals delivered. If it's not here, we don't eat it. It goes on the grocery list.
I could go on, but you know what I'm saying. Don't live above your means. Used is good, free is better. And having a spouse with the same goals is ideal!!
    Love you guys!

7:10 I personally only have a hand mixer, but what I will say is that the KitchenAid has lots of helpful attachments, such as a meat grinder
I of course would only fet it on sale. When I was baking bread almost everyday I would have gotten a lot of good out of it. Also, if you make a lot of frostings it's helpful. You can multitask and do other thing while it's mixing. Also helpful for people with disabilities who would have a hard time holding the mixer than long

I love my kitchen aid, but I also got it at an auction for a fraction of the price. I do make cookies with my mom every Christmas (about 35-40 dozen) and I also make cookies and bread about twice a month.
About the disney trip - my mom and aunt traded our summer time share for a disney trip (still cost them about $500) and took my brother and cousin (8 & 6) and neither one remembers it. My mom complained about the price the whole time and that was with them saving money on driving versus flying and staying at a cheaper hotel versus the disney ones. I did go in highschool (20+ years ago) and that was expensive for that time, but I remember it and I LOVED it.

So, we do a lot of hand-me-downs until they hit teen years and growth rates change drastically. The t shirts and shorts I bought 12 years ago at Walmart have held up over time just as well as the ones I bought at Gymboree and Land's End (on clearance).

I understand where you’re coming from on the crib first hand. We bought a 200 dollar crib it was amazing. We then bought a 400 crib and it was crap and broke went back to the 200 dollar crib. On the topic of strollers, we bought a high end stroller used after our cheap one was difficult to use the way we walk (miles a day). We bought a discontinued double stroller also high end but way cheaper after our used one died. We then got a stroller wagon. The wagon is awesome and though expensive has been well worth the investment. It used almost daily and is better than any stroller we’ve ever had. I’ll say a high end stroller/wagon is well worth it Everytime.

so im with you on most but the Disney world got me. I guess for us we have been going for twenty years and over the last two kids and ten years now we drive. So between 300-500$ a trip for hotel stays and gas to get there not bad. Then we rent a airbnb so way cheaper than a disney hotel and we cook most meals and bring in snacks and waters. Last the tickets we go for a annual pass since we will go down twice on that pass ( side not we currently have a daughter who works there on her college program and we have winters off so we spend 3 weeks at a time which makes it worth it and we home school) but yes if youve never been its very expensive and very complicated but i will say after next years trip im not sure if we will continue to go or time to move on. I do also have a child with diffrent needs and it is their happy safe place so its been worth it to us for the memories but I understand your point.

Re: strollers. Some of the midrange strollers (i.e. $200-300) felt amazingly expensive to us. We got one that is SO versatile and durable (with a sunshade, storage, etc.) and folds up small enough that it can go in the overhead luggage bin on airplanes. It also completely changed the game for packing for road trips (our other stroller was HUGE in comparison). We felt almost nauseous actually buying it, but it has been SO worth it.

It has also come in really handy when we are organizing multi family vacations (group shopping). Having said that, I do know it's an indulgence. I always check the store's pricing policy- some of them charge 'in store' prices through the site, which is what I'm looking for.

We went to Disney World is 2020. It cost 2400 for a timeshare(we have a friend that sold us her extra points) on Disney property for 8days. Tickets were 2700 for 3 parks( we had to book the day you were going) for 6 people. We had seaworld passes so we went there also. Most of our food we bought at Wal-Mart and cooked . once a day we ate out and it ranged from 45.00 for Chick-fil-A to 120.00 at one of the parks restaurant. In total it was a little over 6000 we spent. We drove from VA straight thru so that we would not need to rent rooms for the night. Expensive but I had wanted to take my grandkids every sends my first was born. She was 10 , her sister almost 10 and brother 5. I saved for a year so every was cash no credit. Was it worth it? Yes to me , the excitement of their faces and joy was priceless.

My family LOVES Disney (World & Land). We have become pros at it all and you can still just walk up to ride. Not fast pass needed. I could debate it, but 100% see why it is not for everyone. We mix it in every now and then with other trips. I’ll glad cut other expenses to go 😜😊

I am 30 years old and pregnant with ny first child and this was so relatable 😂. I am fortunate to have a good support system and have a baby shower planned. I can not tell you how many things i have taken off my registry because people have just gifted it to me second hand. The car seat stroller combo? My friend is giving me her old one 😅. Bassinet? Friend gifted me. My inlaws bought the crib and spent a fortune (granted, it does convert all the way to a single bed) but i told them just go to a yard sale 😂.

We were visiting Chicago, drove around for over an hour to park even close to apt we were staying at...then realized we needed something from the store (pee cleaner...kids) instacart for the save, arrived in under 30 min...worth the $ in this case. I couldn't have gotten us all to the store and back with the kids in that amount of time and who knows if we would have had a parking space
So instacart...there is a time and a place for it!

I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer that was given to me, but it is SO HEAVY that I can barely drag it (from the corner of my countertop where it lives) to use it. I only use it for cake mixes, zucchini bread and banana bread. I am saving up to buy a nice hand mixer to replace it!

Sorry for the length but I feel you both nailed it! It is astounding at how highly marketed to, that we are! If they waive a health or safety banner, people tend to believe anything they’re told. I would urge new parents to look at products through the eyes of the baby. Please trust me that the baby does not care that he or she has the best stroller, crib, cute outfits or toys. The baby wants YOU! I am now a grandmother so I have lived through all of the peer pressure of that.
I would also like to say that, as I approach retirement, I am transitioning to more scratch cooking, and it includes ingredients that your grandmother used. These ingredients are not expensive and do not break the bank like some of the “Whole Foods/natural foods” do. In fact, it’s a lot less money. People just want what’s best for their families, but it does not have to break the bank to do it, I promise!
And I am completely with you on the Disney thing! You are right on!! There is such pressure on parents to take their children to Disney World or Disneyland. And now we even have the means to have that experience for them, but everyone is in agreement that we would rather do three or four other adventures for the same amount of money.
Such a great video! Thank you!!!

Floridian with a Disney annual pass here! We pay $400 a year for unlimited access for all Disney parks and water parks! You don’t have to reserve for rides but you do have the option to! Which helps with those wait times so you’re not waiting in a super long line lol. We’re only an hour from Disney world so it’s actually way cheaper for me and my partner to go to Disney every couple weeks and pack a lunch with us as a thing to do for the day then alot of other things in our area. Also as a vegan I still don’t do Whole Foods unless we’re on vacation, and that’s to get all the fun foods I don’t usually have access to ie cheesecakes cookies breakfast sandwiches dip for chips etc. other than that it’s aldi 24/7 😂

As a kid, growing up in Florida it was a 2 hour drive and still a super special rare treat. It used to be $75 a ticket or maybe less for a Floridian. Now I have to buy a 3 day to get a “discount” to make it like $100 a day. They’ve made it so much less attractive unless you love Disney enough.

STROLLERS - keep lifestyle in mind… many families who live in the city centre have 0-1 cars per family. A good stroller, wagon, or cargo bike is essentially taking the place of another car… so the $$ can be worth it. If you’re walking several km a day for daycare drop off, to work, for groceries or the pharmacy, then something sturdy, lightweight and long lasting matters!
In the same light- I had a friend who lives in a smaller town ask how it was putting our stroller in/out the trunk every day. Answer being that we don’t. It would probably be terrible for that… which is ok since it isn’t how we use it.

Regarding expensive strollers: I actually did get one and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. It was so easy to use, so versatile (think public transport in a metropolis to hiking sand dunes) super easy to pack up and the resale value was mind blowing! So in the right scenario it can be worth it.

The produce at Whole Foods (except for a farmer of course) is unmatched and it actually affordable, especially the 365 brand! Our local Kroger type store and sprouts are waaaay more expensive😱 Apples are def around $3 a lb. or less (an Amazon prime discount on lots too!)
I will say Trader Joe’s is slightly cheaper but a smaller selection obviously…

They are prescription so I can't scratch or lose them or other wise I won't see a thing. The only worry is when I leave the house with them on that I also remember to bring my regular glasses.

I have a wagon that was $1000, but it fits 4 kids, a baby seat, hoses off, all terrain for trails, older kids and all the chairs, coolers, etc for sports games hopefully for more than a decade. It is way more than necessary but I’m hoping it will stand the rest of time way better than a stroller of that price.
