In the 19th century there were 2 "khanates" in Central Asia which were descended from the Great Mongol Empire. These were the khanates of Bukhara and Kokand. The khanate of Bukhara ruled the fabled city of Samarkand. When the Russians began expanding into Central Asia in the mid-19th century the British tried unsuccessfully to establish alliances with these 2 khanates. They became Russian protectorates and were abolished after Czar Nicholas II was overthrown and the Communists came to power. Today much of the former Khanate of Kokand is part of Uzbekistan.

Kingdom of Hawai'i Before you say it wasn't, bear in mind it was recognized by other countries like France and England, but California never was during it's whopping 25 days.
You included Ceylon, which was just an old name for Sri Lanka, but left out Tibet, which gained full independence in 1912, after having practical independence for well over a century, and then was conquered once again in the 1950s. Nobody online dares to say anything that China doesn’t like.
Austria-Hungary is an Empire & not a (single) country. Know the difference. Why didn't you mention "Prussia" as a (genuine) country? Ceylon ≡ Sri Lanka. Don't treat name changes as separate countries. Sikkim was part of the British (Indian) Empire along with Bhutan & another 563 others (including the likes of Hyderabad, Kashmir, Bahawalpur etc). While all others were asked (coerced) to merge in either of the dominions formed - India & Pakistan, Bhutan & Sikkim were administered by India as the successor of the British Empire. A certain, Miss Hope Cook, from USA married the Sikkim Chogyal (ruler or king) & had some grand designs about her adapted home, strategically straddling with Tibet-China. It blew out to be a great security risk to India what with the waywardness of the ruler. The people too fed up with the autocracy voted to merge with Indian democracy, in 1975 as one state.
Ah I love empires, you know the places that aren't countries. Like the old British Empire it wasn't a country it was a empire. Your logic makes no sense, especially given the fact Prussia technically just became the German empire and therefore not a country but a empire. But also it still existed inside of germany much like scotland. Then well ww2 and uh Kalingrad became a thing.
Country, empire, tomato, tomatire. The name matters less than the form of government. Germany was an empire on its founding in 1871, but was still a country. The USA is a federal republic but neither words occur in its name. Many authoritarian countries have "democratic" in their names and they are anything but. But empires are called such because they are headed by emperors but they share a form,of governance as any other non-empire.
@@g1a1r1y3: The British Empire was never headed by an emperor, nor even an empress. Queen Victoria may indeed have been created Empress of India in 1876 but that was only of British India rather than the rest of the British Empire. Her son, her grandson and the two great-grandsons who succeeded her became in their turn Emperor of India. Incidentally, other empires have existed which were not headed by an emperor (nor empress): for instance, the empire of the Roman Republic and the Ottoman Empire. In addition, empires are not named such because they may be headed by an emperor (or empress) but an emperor (or empress) is named such because they rule over an empire.

Did not mention countries like Tanganica, Zanzibar (both joint to form Tanzania). Also Republic of Upper Volta and not to forget you barely mentioned Tibet. Of course, there are many more that I am not aware. Again..... too short your list, but appreciate your effort.
I really like the history of countries. Thank you. I was aware of most of these (I've been to 45 countries), however, Salo was new info to me and explains parts of WW2 I didn't understand.

I love how he mentioned how rich and great Ashanti was until the Europeans went in.
But it was at it's richest and greatest when it was trading with the European ports on the coast
I have a question why did like it answer me back
People like to talk about how glorious Africa was before the Europeans arrived but there's no evidence of that. No, Wakanda never was. People were living in dung covered huts and sacrificing neighboring tribes when Europeans first came to Africa.
@@kyriljordanov2086 Give Africans a break! Europeans were fighting among themselves too

Rhodesia declared its UDI in 1965 and the bush war went from about 1967-80 when Mugabe was “elected”, there was also Zimbabwe-Rhodesia which went from 1976-1979 when Rhodesia was brought back into the UK in 80 so elections could be held

Austria Hungary was always a combination of two countries...
ME with other countries that it took over though
No it is austria
For half a century it was kind of 1 country, kind of 2 countries
Well hungary alone was multinational, in 17 century they got beaten up by ottomans, only northen part survived (slovakia). Slovakia was then connected to austria and so the hungary, few centuries later austria made the deal with hungary called austrio-hungarian settlement, also there has been historical part called bohemia which is czech republic today so no, it was not combination of two countries

Yugoslavia,
East Germany
Prussia
Czechoslovakia

In the 19th century there were 2 "khanates" in Central Asia which were descended from the Great Mongol Empire. These were the khanates of Bukhara and Kokand. The khanate of Bukhara ruled the fabled city of Samarkand. When the Russians began expanding into Central Asia in the mid-19th century the British tried unsuccessfully to establish alliances with these 2 khanates. They became Russian protectorates and were abolished after Czar Nicholas II was overthrown and the Communists came to power. Today much of the former Khanate of Kokand is part of Uzbekistan.

Hungary's Past: *the gigantic austro-hungarian empire, 50+ counties in Hungary

It's not really better for Austria
Hungrians didn't want Austro-Hungrian Empire. They were occupied by the Austrians, and fought for their independence. It was half-succesful. They stuck in a dual-monarchy and then WWI came and you know the rest of the story

You included Ceylon, which was just an old name for Sri Lanka, but left out Tibet, which gained full independence in 1912, after having practical independence for well over a century, and then was conquered once again in the 1950s. Nobody online dares to say anything that China doesn’t like.

Palestine: *am I a joke to you?*

“Whose existence didn’t matter”? That’s a trifle arrogant.
6:40 Mentioned the UAR but forgot to mention the short-lived union of Jordan-Iraq(Hashemite Arab Federation) that was created against it.
Also, the main reason that the Egypt-Syria union failed is due to Egypt being the boss and Syria having no real power, so Syria left the union.
