  • Join me on a trip to the south of New Zealand's South Island where I join Wanaka based guide Jake Berry on an overnight hike-in fishing adventure. The weather turns it on and the place is spectacular for my first visit here with willing trout in simply majestic surroundings.

      Thanks for the very kind comment. Yeah, personally, i get tired of clips that are all glitz and music - more just a collage of images, like an ode to film-making, rather than letting people in and allowing them to be part of it in a way. I simply make what i like to see... Cheers!

    This is No.1 in my Bucket List, I fished with one of my best mates in the southern Island 10 yrs ago, He lived in Christ Church and we went travelling for a week around the south island but i experienced nothing like this. I'm saving for another trip for my 45th Birthday and i hope to God i can have a day or two on this river. Fishing Paradise!!! I can't put into words how amazing this river looks and you guy's seem so down to earth and cool, would imagine its a complete pleasure to fish with ye and you have the out most respect for your environment and the fish, truly skilled anglers in every aspect. well done love ur vids!

    I was fortunate enough to realise one of my lifetime goals by fishing in New Zealand back in 2001.Unfortunately, I didn't have a guide as I couldn't afford one but I remember being totally unable to sleep with excitement the night before. I fished the Tongariro, the rip in Taupo and the Hinnemaiaia. I hooked one nice rainbow which I lost after playing for a short while. This video has re-ignited my will to return some day and complete the job I started many years ago. The scenery, the clear water, the symbiology of the anglers with their environment. Well done to you both. Beautifully shot.

    Great video, I live in Mt. Home Arkansas near the White and Norfork rivers. We have trout that big and bigger here, but you don't see them near enough. A lot smaller than that is the norm. I have always wanted to visit New Zealand, so one of these days. Now since the Olympics I have another reason, rugby! Me and my grandson watched nearly every match, got us both hooked. Keep it up with the videos, beautiful fish and you caught them well.

    Edit: Well the second half of the video the fish did seem to fight much better. Did I hear the one fellow at the end of the video say they were "modest sized" trout. If I hear it right that is pretty funny. In most any US trout stream those aren't "modest sized" brown trout on a fly rod. I've watched hundreds of fly fishing videos and this is surely the best video with the clearest water and the most willing trout. Both guys were having a great time sharing the experience. Thoroughly enjoyable video.

    • @mikefsher
      @mikefsher  7 лет назад

      Cheers for that. On the 'modest' sized trout thing - it's all relative, and for here they were of smaller size than i would normally catch.

    Hey Mike just wondering what your go-to boot is for missions like this? Hope you're having a great season and hope to stay well out of your way on my upcoming trip haha. Always enjoy your videos!

    Amazing footage Mike! Had to watch this clip again after just recently booking tickets to NZ. Looking forward to maybe fishing some water like this with Jake next season... Is less than a year away too early to start the countdown for my return to the South Island? It's videos like this that keep us anglers sane (or insane) until we can once again return to paradise...
    All the best. Aloha

    For brown trout that are at least 21" - 24" they surely aren't fighting very well at all. What do you attribute that too? Here in the US on rivers I fish in Montana browns that big, even in slower current, will run off a lot of line and possibly put you into the backing.
