Hello Dave, Sergeant Storm issues? Paint, wire? The space crawlers are cool looking, may be something I'll have to add to the collection at some point :) Thanks for watching!
@@ToyTinkerTim yeah, I still have my original. He’s pretty well played with. So there’s some dirt and grime, and some black rubber showing through. I picked up a lot watching your major Matt mason restoration. My problem is not knowing what paint colors to mix and use to match Sergeant Storm. But I would love to see him looking more like he was when I first got him. I’m not too worried about the wires, I can’t imagine they’re an easy fix.
@@davegink9222 That's great you still have your original Sgt. Storm figure! I'm guessing when thinking about other action figures that his red suit may be a different shade from production batches, to time and fading so it would definitely be a custom paint mix. Good thing is acrylic paints aren't too expensive, the biggest is your time and patience to get a match. The wire is a pain, I'm still working on that🤓
I had gotten one in a rummage sale when I was a kid and thought they were cool since then. GI Joe though definitely stayed in the spot light for me as well.
Thanks 👍 No I currently haven't had any experience with a Doug Davis, but like color matching this Major Matt Mason who's suit isn't just white I would approach the yellow the same way. I think each figures againg causes color shifts, so there may be similarities but you really would need to match each one case by case to get a good color. Thanks for watching!
I restored a Major Matt Mason figure just like this one a few years ago. I used a few layers of Vallejo Surface primer brushed on to build up the areas where the paint was missing, and larger holes existed. I then brushed on a white mixed of acrylic paint, and did all the other necessary touch ups. . What I really enjoyed in your method was the corn starch that you added! That really was a great idea! Any tips on repairing broken wires on the inside framework of these figures? I've heard that you can "re-wire" broken limb areas, but I have no idea how to really do that.
That's great about the surface primer as a way to build layer up 👍 I am working on/experimenting with some ways of rewiring a figure now. So far, it doesn't seem like a process that's going to be quick. Thanks for watching!
Awesome. I'm about to try my hand at restoring one. Would you happen to have a list of paints to use to restore some of the other colored versions? Thank you
I haven't worked with much color on these figures, so all I can refer you to is what approach I would try. I would look at latex mask paints. If you Google "latex mask paint" it will show a number of sellers and brands. That's where I would start on solving that need. Good luck, and thanks for watching.
It's still going🙌 Major Matt Mason line is very cool, but it was put together in a non-workable format. Not just the figures, vehicles' plastic gears grinding teeth off, foam wheels rotting. The figures made of plastisol with everything sealed are quite the challenge. A large part of my process is now figured out material-wise. It'll probably be this winter that I get back into it though.
Thanks! I didn't see the line until I was older, but love the designs and line. That's really great though you were able to enjoy these as a kid! Thanks for watching👍
Pretty amazing transformation. I remember you were always talking about Maj Matt Mason back in the day...
Thanks Paul, MMM fits that genre of sci-fi and retro space that is so cool to me. Thanks for being a member! 🤜🤛
I would love to see you do a restoration of a Sergeant Storm. And a space crawler.

What a world of difference. The amount of grime, I'm sure, would have been enough for most people to dare not even touch it.
I had one of these as a kid but it took a backseat to my GI Joes. Nice transformation.

Great work. I had this guy when I was a boy, now shopping for a replacement. Brings back a lot of memories.
Next to G.I. Joe, this was my favorite toy! I still have a sergeant storm, and a space crawler. Not sure whatever happened to my space station.
Great video ! I was handed down many Masons and vehicles from my older cousins in the early 70's. The space crawler was my favorite vehicle. Thanks
Thanks Mark
Wonderful job. Have you worked on a Doug Davis? Do you have a paint color match for Doug Davis? Thanks

Wow !
So did you ever end up doing a video on replacing the wires?

Looks amazing well done 👍
Thanks!
Great work, you were gentle and patient, it paid off, wonderful looking vintage Matt Mason for display.
Thank you! Yeah they're a different approach because the paint would come off even when they were new. Thanks for checking it out!
Cool.
