My rule of thumb is to completely service my saw every Spring, or have someone do it for me if I'm not in the mood. Filters, line, plug, and carb kit. I do blow off Saw Cake, check spark arrestor, clean the foam air filter, inspect the bar, and touch up the chain if I'm putting it up for a while after a few hours of use.
I have the same saw. Very nice unit. I prefer it over my newer homeowner/farm Stihls as its more of a "pro" saw. Magnesium casing, adjustable oilpump, quite light, reasonably powerful etc. Perfect for the Nordic forests. I recently bought a big box of NOS spareparts from a retired small engines repair shop so I can probably run it for the rest of my life. Good tip on the cleaning on the starter and flywheel side, I haven't done that recently so I'll better do it this weekend. 👍🏻
Tons of great information. Friend gave me a husqvarna 125b blower. Body in great shape but plug hole cross threaded so has no compression. Any dependable low cost fix? Or save for parts? Thanks
The standard answer would be to use a Heli-coil insert to repair the threads but that kit is over $32 on Amazon right now. A new cylinder is $40 and a new ring is $6. A gasket kit is $20. I'd replace that cylinder for 1/3 the cost of a new blower and have all the power of a new one.
@@rafealpruitt6985 This video wasn't about diagnosing a no start issue. It was just about performing maintenance. There are so many possible reasons why your saw won't start and I can't begin to list them all here.
That probably won't happen. My employer allows me to record over the bench because I waste no time while on the clock and I appreciate that. I don't want to risk losing that priveledge because I used company time to set up and make a video. I also don't want to risk possible issues with our insurance company because of something they might not like. I can hear it now..."how did you cut your leg"? "Well I was trying to get just the right shot for my you tube video..."
Nice to have a customer who looks after his equipment like this chap.

You should get decades of service out of a saw with a maintenance plan like that.
If only everyone took care of their chainsaw so good
I picked a 488 up at a yard sale. Nice, well built saw.
I think a dull chain is one of the biggest fouls in chainsaw abuse. That excessive heat is a killer.
Nice job!
Thanks for watching!

@@TheGreasyShopRag I’ve done everything I seen in your video and this thing still won’t start

@@TheGreasyShopRag I figured it out thanks

Sometime will you show tuning in the wood? Thanks
