    The wool being so costly yet the ppl in Kashmir ( region where this wool comes from ) get payed so less. One of the most costly and important resources like cashmere, silk and mica are mostly exported from India and yet our country doesn't get payed enough

      the raising and harvesting of the wool is only a factor in its expense , as you can see from this video a lot more processing is needed to finish the product hence the expense. I imagine if the suppliers did hold firm they could get a better deal as this is a luxury fabric and the rich will ultimately pay.

    Almost all goats produce cashmere, as it is a type of goat not a breed. The term refers to the undercoat of a goat which much breeds except the Angora have.

      Honestly goat enjoy as Cashmere fibers(distorted name of Kashmir Pashmina) are collected by brushjng belly of goat. Like brushing a Canine would collect a lot of hairs.

      @@brontebarnett6559 I work in this Industry Sir. We sell pure handmade pashmina procured by same process. No one slaughter a Hen who give gold eggs. Goats can be domesticated. There is more fine and soft fibre called toosh that animal cannot be domesticated and if they remove fibre from those animal they cannot survive in Himalayan winters without their fibre eventually they get killed in process. Indian govt banned those fibres. Goats live in barn in winters

      Cashmere or khulu in ladakhi is literally not found in Kashmir it's only found in ladakh when ladakh was with kashmir before 2019 the exploded everything of ladakh as on name of Kashmir or kashmiri pashmina

      Cashmere is the name of the wool in English and it's not the same as Kashmir..

      @@digi6643 as shown in the video the goat(pashmina goat) that produces the wool is from Kashmir in Himalayan region. Cashmere is Anglicised version of Kashmir. The wool/fabric is named after the place (locally it is also called pashmina).

    the cashmere from india is fine. has strict government rules so that no goats are harmed. but those mongolia and china are procured using very cruel methods. PETA has a really good page on that.

    Sooo... just gene sequencing cashmere producing goats and breed for a high cashmere coat goat.
    Then you have a smaller foot print of goats making a higher quantity (& possibly quality) of cashmere.

    For the last time it's Kashmir as in Jammu and Kashmir the state in India. Not Cashmere, it's an imperial spelling and nobody except Americans pronounce it as cashmere. Ask anyone from India or Pak they'll pronounce it as Kashmir.

    No, this is not the traditional process. The traditional process is followed in Kashmir.There is no use of Machines here. Everything is handmade by artists who pass on the skill from generation to generation.

      Didn't they just say the furs were collected when those goats shed them naturally? Besides, you can't just shave all those goats' furs if they're gonna survive on those mountains.

      The fiber is collected in the spring, when the goat begins shedding it's winter coat. It's brushed out naturally. In order to get high quality fiber, the goat must be cared for.

    There is no "cashmere goat". Cashmere can come frm any goat breed, many times the Pashmina goat.
