This man is without a doubt the most well researched mens fashion vlogger. I don't much care for his personal style as it is way to traditional for my taste but he knows what he' talking about.
To reiterate previous sentiments, I also appreciate the fact that you folks appreciate the human and environmental impact of the cashmere trade. This is just one more reason why I trust your channel, and I support Fort Belvedere. Thank you, for looking at the world through a wide lens.
I have to tell you that your way of talking is perfect. Apart from the fact that you explain things thoroughly and with simple words, the tone of your voice is very calm and clear, showing that you are a man of class. Thank you for all the useful and important information about cashmere!
Honestly, Raphael, I love all the socially-aware views you have on clothing. You advice on buying good quality cashmere to help environmental factors in east Asia really shows how much you care for people and things generally, really sets you apart.
One great tip for washing cashmere is to roll it in a towel after handwashing instead of wringing it. Put the rolled up towel in a sunny spot and exchange it every few hours until the garment is mostly dry, then carefully place it flat on a dry towel out of the sun. Also, always wash left side out.
I figured out I'm allergic to cashmere after spending a few hundred dollars on sweaters and coats. Try them on first and pay attention to your nose. If after 15 mins, your nose starts dripping like a faucet, you may want to go with alpaca or merino wool instead.
I'm very lucky to have Cashmere jumpers from the 1930 that are still very wearable and very soft keeping them clean is a horrible stress any advice on keeping them clean
I am a seamstress and I've been looking into using Kashmir in some garments so I was looking for information on how to source quality Kashmir and I came across this video, it was very helpful and informative, and also this channel as a whole just seems so cute, I'll have to share it with my fiance, God knows he could use some of these tips
I've been planning to invest in a cashmere scarf to start out with. I needed this. Thank you Raphael!!! Also you've been a key mentor in helping me rejuvenate my wardrobe!!! You and alpha M have been very helpful
You are a very different fashion youtuber compared to most others, your vids contain lots of extra info and history delicately edited in. That is something most people would'nt care for doing. You are for sure a quality youtuber. Now I have a question, I am a teenager from Norway (the country where everything is super expensive) and I am a pretty poor person. What are some ways I can look more formal and fashionable without spending so many benjamins, or maybe non at all.
Nice vid! Quite shocking how much an impact the goats are making actually, all my cashmere is second hand and still looks great : ) you’re super stylish
Thank you Sven, Your advice matches what I have been hearing from the classy Hungarian lady I am with. I'm starting to understand. 13 pairs of Fort Belvedere socks delivered today 😎
Thanks for a very appreciated video certainly you have added to my knowledge of knowing the difference of quality cashmere and how to recognize this fine material I have in the past purchase what was considered a blend of cashmere and cotton or wool but now I'm armed with information that will help me to know what specifics to ask for excellent job on the subject of quality cashmere.
Another fact that wasn’t mentioned is that the name Cashmere is British spelling of the name Kashmir which is a region where actually the wool was span into fabric. Here we don’t call it Cashmere (that would be weird). We call it Pashmina. The British came across this fabric in Kashmir for the first time and hence the name. Also Kashmir itself is very famous for its shawls and carpets. And there is even a higher quality wool than Cashmere aka Pashmina called Shahtoosh but it is very rare to find now as there is a ban on acquiring it. In Kashmir, the shawls are still made traditionally entirely with hand. And the “original” Cashmere can be very expensive when exported in west.
very interesting. i actually learnt something new. Did not know about Shahtoosh and I am glad I do now. Had thought until now that Vicuna was the king of wools, but it is actually Shahtoosh, although the latter is banned.
@@SpirithunterBOMB Yes Shahtoosh can’t be acquired atleast legally because the mountain goat is endangered. In Kashmir we have a lot of cultural association with Cashmere fabric. Shawls made from it are wedding gifts as well as a mark of respect.
He literally said that the Cashmere comes from Kashmir. He meant region, but pronouncing both the same is easy to infer when it the video says it originates there.
Brilliant video best Ive seen . Thank you . I’m just struggling to get stains out of 3 cashmere jumpers but I know how to wash it just got ingrained stains - any tips would be appreciated but I’ll see if you have any more videos on this as well . Ruth in UK
Another Great video…I no longer buy cashmere jumpers as find they shrink after a few hand washes but have a few cashmere blankets from Ralph Lauren that are worth every penny.
The best cashmere I have, is the one from my grandma... doesn't pill, soft as heaven, the most salmony salmon pink, and apart from minor wear on the sleeves(currently at the tailor) it is the best piece I own.
I liked your video. But you forgot to mention the de-pillers. There are a variety. I've tried them all. Some do more damage than good. But the Conair battery powered hand held is the best. What a difference!
I asked a company with a royal seal about their cashmere and they basically said they don’t share any information about the cashmere. Super fluffy and itchier than wool
Another reason to not buy a cashmere-poly/nylon blend: longevity. Mixing man-made fibers w natural fibers wears out the natural fiber faster. The resultant textile is basically a plant/animal fiber surrounded by plastic strings, so the friction of the plastic compromises the plant/animal fiber more than it otherwise would. That’s why (most) quilters insist that cotton thread accompany cotton fabric.
Really good video. It is always a strange thing when we see more and more of what we see as a luxury item appearing at lower and lower prices. Instinctively you think something must surely be wrong, but often we do not have the specific knowledge about why.
I have to say that cashmere sounds more trouble than it's worth!... Hard or even impossible to find good quality, pills easily (even the good stuff) & goes strangely hard after washing. Yikes!... I think I'll stick to fine merino wool - easy to find, reasonable prices, never pills, & even comes in superfine summer-weight fabrics these days (which is machine-washable!)..... Thanks for this fabulous info - I was thinking of venturing into the unknown world of casmere. Now I will be ultra-cautious! 🙂❤️
Quality concerns notwithstanding, even lower quality cashmere products - such as, I suspect, the jumper I am wearing right now, a 100% cashmere jumper made in Madagascar - can be extremely warm, soft and comfortable to wear.
Are cashmere blazers and coast susceptible to the moths that can damage the fibers? I did have this problem with one of my cashmere sweaters now I'm super careful. I just thrifted a beautiful pale pink 100% cashmere blazer for $7. I took it to the dry cleaner to make sure I did not bring any moths or their larva home with me.
I'm new to cashmere but is a cashmere overcoat for 500 dollars worth it. Is it good for everyday use, or should it be just a once in a while dress up coat?

I bought a Johnston’s of Elgin turtle neck and it’s not as soft as my Aritzia pullover... even though the JOE sweater is pure cashmere. Why? Will it soften?
I'm looking for a quality blazer and I have seen some "100% cashmere" jackets. This contradicts the advice given here. What would be your view on these... Are these something I could seriously consider, or something to definitely avoid or even a con?
I bought a new cashmere sweater. It’s got pilling already after 1 day of wear (under arms, along entire friction area of torso and arms actually). But I was also kept warmer than even a one-sided fleece jacket (think hoodie with zipper). Should I try to wash it to get the shortest fibers out? Or is it a lost cause and just return it? It’s my first cashmere item. I can see the individual threads/knit, there’s visible light see-through. So not the densist knit. But it was also inexpensive (for cashmere), and I do like the cut.
