    Back in the late 80s I owned a 1986 V65 Magna and even at this date of 2018 it is still my favorite bike I've ever owned and also one of the fastest for drag racing... just goes to show you can be fast and still be comfortable

    I had an 84 V65, I ran that bike hard and learned it like the back of my hand. I never lost a race, not to a Vmax, or a literbike, or a Porsche, or a Vrod. Run well, thats one of the fastest bikes off the line you can find.

      Truth! My Brother's friend has the smaller v45 and sport cars would pull up and ask what the blue HELL is that motor under that bike. I wish I could get my hands on a v65. The muscle cruisers are the bikes I love.

  • @spareparts7630
    @spareparts7630 6 лет назад +1

    I have an 84 V65 and have never been beaten out of the hole. With the shaft drive you can launch at 3500, feather the clutch a little, and lay into the throttle and still keep the front wheel down. Liter bikes will reel me in after about a block and a half but they have to work for it. The V4 is torquey and the shaft drive makes them very easy to launch. Shift at 10K. The engine pulls harder in the mid-range than gutting it for every last RPM on the top side.

  • @dylanmorrison8543
    @dylanmorrison8543 7 лет назад +8

    you're a skilled rider, but you could be shifting much quicker, you seem to leave a split second between shifts for some reason. if you do that you could easily win

  • @erikmschwartz
    @erikmschwartz 7 лет назад +8

    wow. You need to learn clutch control. It is much better to normal shift a bike rather than sloppily speed shift at the wrong rpm. The other dude had the shifting great, which is why HE won a majority of the races.

    I have an 85 v65 mag w the v45 final drive. Faster in the 1/4 and top end than stock. They won't get to redline in 6th stock. Not enough power. I put 4 into 1 exhaust and oil mod and Jetted . It scoots but they still only have about 109 brake hp. For a 33 year old bike it does ok. :-)

  • @aerialwheel3719
    @aerialwheel3719 7 лет назад +5

    it's awesome that you guys are out there running those bikes like that. win or lose, thanks!!! little tip: have the revs around 4k when you launch (feather the clutch and/or throttle). go slightly past redline before you shift. shift quickly.

    • @Adikxx
      @Adikxx  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks bud

    • @wvXvxvXvw
      @wvXvxvXvw 5 лет назад +1

      Launching a V65 at 4k is a death sentence. You are almost guaranteed to stick the tire and flip over backwards. I try to launch my stock 83 at about 5k, give or take, to get some wheel spin. Then when you hit 2nd hard the front end will lift at about 5500rpm and hold it up until about 9k. On my drag bike(another 83 V65) I try to launch at about 2500. I have my nitrous controller set to feather in at about 3k at 20% and have it hitting 100% at 5k. It sticks the tire to start, gives me some spin between 3k and 5k and is stuck after that. A tire sticking on a bike like a V65 will end up in a wreck most of the time.

  • @rongiambrone7538

    The man driving the magna don't know how to race. You don't let off the throttle at all, I had a 1987 v45 up until last year I never lost a race, even with bikes that had 1500 cc. Also 1988 my v45 is 698cc, let a friend race my bike against my bosses 750cc. The 750c.f. Won 4 times in a row. Then I raped my own and won 5 times in a row and I believe the rider makes a difference, I've been riding 45 years. Change rider's

  • @theshacall
    @theshacall 7 лет назад +2

    all you need to do on the GZP 900 is to put it on first gear, change on neutral for a spit second,then jump on 2nd gear. like if you didn't put it proper into the 2nd gear then did it right. The GPZ 900 beats many of the modern 600 and 900s sport bikes at start, just by doing the above! :)

    • @davidbrennan5
      @davidbrennan5 Год назад +1

      I had a v65 and my buddy had a gpz900. whoever got the holeshot would win, they were close in power. The kawi made power different, it was a better bike for shorter rides and it was a lot more stable at high speeds. It had a lower center of gravity and handled better. The Honda handled good and was more comfortable on long rides, it had a wider powerband. The bike was downright scary past anything over 130mph on the speedo. The front would start getting too light....

    He also beat you on the slowest V65 Magna. If that was an 83 V65 it would not have mattered who would have been on it. That Magna appears to be an 86 looking at the wheels and cluster, by far the slowest V65 built.

    • @Adikxx
      @Adikxx  5 лет назад

      Yeah it's the 1985 model. I did hear that 1983 model offered best performance. Do you know what were the differences between 1983 and later models?

    • @wvXvxvXvw
      @wvXvxvXvw 5 лет назад

      @@Adikxx The only documented difference between the two are the carburetors. That is why 83 carbs are worth about twice as much as 85 carbs. I happen to own an 83 V65 with less than 5k miles, all original. I measured the cams and compared them to an 85 V65 that I bought for parts. The 83 cams are more aggressive with a considerable amount of duration more and a little more lift. My other V65 is my drag bike and the cams have been reground on that one. I can not use that bike to verify one way or the other which cams are normal. I do know that an 83 V65 will handily outrun an 85, though I do not know if it is the carbs, cams or some other unknown factor that causes it. That said, even my 83 V45 is faster than later model V45 and V42 bikes. I can only assume that Honda revised the cam profiles to combat the cam failure issues that plagued their V4 engines in the early 80s.

    • @Adikxx
      @Adikxx  5 лет назад

      @@wvXvxvXvw Yeah i bet the cams in later models were changed due to cam failure reports. I saw a fully refurbed 83 carbs on Ebay some time ago with a ridiculous price tag. That explains why the price was so high. Good info, i didn't know that.

      he cheated the Starts 1 & 2. He said it would be 3-2-1 go and he went 3-2-go. Caught the other guy off guard. Otherwise, this rider (NOT driver) needs to go to the drag strip and practice actual competition level fast starts. Neither guys were at a competition level, but the guy who won the majority of races was a better rider and had his shifting down pat. The V65 would be even more brilliant with a Superbike style handlebar rather than that comfortable sweep back handlebar that doesn't lend itself to a forward crouch.

      Magna would easily win every race there.I missed the gear in 3 races hence lost a few times.We rode together quite a lot and we both concluded that Magna is more powerful virtually in every rev range.
      Just for your info bud i ride the Magna maybe twice a year(500miles if lucky),it's my holiday bike cause i live abroad and only have acces to it when i'm back there for a week o so...therefore no wonder that don't have a good feel of the bike.
      For everyday rides where i live in the UK i have a sports bike witch is a totally different ball game.Clutch,gear box,riding position literally different world my friend.If you rode for instance R1 every day and suddenly jumped on 30 yo cruiser that you don't have a feel for would you be winning races with someone who rides it everyday? Can you honestly say you would? Cause i don't think so ;) Unless you have an amazing talent then fair play to you.
      But ur right in saying that Magna is a rocket,it definitely is.Wonderful machine.

A Honda VFR 1100 Interceptor is essentially a crotch rocket Magna. The Magna can waste that. The Magna was the first bike to break 11 seconds in a quarter mile. Gpz 900 is consistently considered in top 25 bikes ever made.. never seen a magna in there...they dont handle or brake either...

    Lol. Dude,You seriously need to learn clutch/throttle control on quick-shifting while drag-racing!!! Once again,it's NOT the bike that wins,but the person at the grips,that wins!!! ~Peace~

    Just because you can balance a bike doesn't mean you can race a bike, you are a horrible racer.

    definitely don't know how to shift the 900, don't think either of you know how to ride, nor stay in the powerband. I agree with the I could beat you on a minibike.. learn how to speedshift...

    you are revving the v65 way too high. 4k is optimal torque. youre going to 9k every gear.

    wow. You need to learn clutch control. It is much better to normal shift a bike rather than sloppily speed shift at the wrong rpm. The other dude had the shifting great, which is why HE won a majority of the races.
