Street Smart was financed by the shady Canon Group as part of a condition for Reeve to return for Superman IV (that and $6 million!). For me, Morgan Freeman for me really stole the show in that one!
My childhood hero. It sounds a bit pathetic, but during a time of intense stress in my life as a child, the Superman franchise 1, 2, 3 took me away from it all. I think I was going every weekend to see either 2, or 3. $2.50 Canadian back in the early 80's.
Loved the interview. I've always been a fan of Christopher Reeve. It's refreshing to know that he didn't buy into all the 'Hollywood Hype'. The same tabloids that praise you today, will hang you tomorrow. I'm so glad he kept acting because of his love of the craft and not for popularity.
if Christopher Reeve was still alive I'd praise him for being Superman for he brought character to life and a part of me wonders what would he say about the current Superman being portayed by Henry Cavill because Henry reminds me of Reeve.
I am dying to know the history of what happened between Christopher Reeve & Richard Pryor during SUPERMAN III. In early interviews both are so complimentary of one another. Both have positive things to say about one another & seem to have a ton of admiration & respect for each other. Yet in later, post interviews, both seem unhappy with one another. I wonder what happened.
I think they're kind of obligated to be complimentary and friendly while promoting the movie while later on, after the movie flopped, it was okay to be honest about behind the scenes friction or being unhappy with the production.
I didn't know that, I knew Christopher reeve said number 3 was so so a few years later but I didn't know he and Pryor talked bad of each other later. I will have to try find those interviews.
Exactly! I've always said Superman III was literally a comic book come to life. The story, the screenplay... imagine it translated to a comic book... it would look and read just like a traditional atomic age, campy Superman comic. Superman III is the most colorful, enjoyable Superman movie in my opinion. The first movie was the best, but I think III doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Both Superman III and Superman IV were the most comic booky of those movies and they were the only two movies of the series to have actual comic book adaptions.
Such a mistake not keeping richard donner. He made superman the movie so wonderfully & took it serious it's down right biblical jor el is almost like god sending his only son to earth to be the light to show them the way. Thank god for the donner cut & putting the brando scenes back in. Reeve turned down a lot of movies that became hits. I guess its the luck of the draw in picking scripts. He turned down american gigolo & body heat which were star making movies for richard gere , kathleen turner & William hurt.
@@jeffsanders1246 Yep. Superman 3 had the budget but no heart. Superman IV had the heart but no budget. Superman IV The Quest For Peace is really just a poor mans Superman The Movie. Have you seen the upgraded subway scene a fan posted on RUclips? This film could easily be significantly improved with the 45 minutes of deleted scenes restored & the special effects fixed. #releasethefuriecut
Yeah. You can tell he's being polite and trying to say something nice because he's promoting the film. The reality was that he had to be begged by the producers and Lester to come back. He wasn't crazy about the script from the get-go. They also told him Superman would be recast, so that was extra pressure.
I get somewhat annoyed at these interviewers, who constantly asks reeve if he gets tired of playing superman obviously he auditioned for the role so that's a dead giveaway he wanted too be superman, let the man choose his own path. May he rest in peace.
The only reason he came back again was because Cannon agreed to make Street Smart and also allowed him to be involved in the writing of Superman IV. Then Cannon slashed the budget and the results were terrible.
I didn't like Superman III, too comical, Richard Prior was a great comedian, but a bad selection for this movie...the sad part is that Superman IV was even worse!!.....
Christopher Reeve was a real gem.
An intelligent articulate man. If you're a fan check out "street smart" and "somewhere in time." Two of his best.
Also death trap is good.

A gem. Wish there was more of him. He’d have had an interesting career through his golden years.

He was a great actor and I beg he would have been an awesome director.

He bought into the Hollywood hype by doing superman 4 even after explicitly stating that he wouldn’t do it

I think chris reeve would have made a great bond.
Christopher reeves is awesome 🇺🇸👍
Christopher Reeve will always be Superman. And to Matthew Reeve your daddy was a true hero.
I liked Superman 3 the bad Superman scenes and the Smallville scenes were awesome i don't care about critics. Chris Reeve is the BEST Superman ever.

@@mrmeerkat1096 Chris found out that they paid Pryor more money for the film. He was furious.

@@sonic31century1 That's because the contract with Mario Puzo on 1 and 2 didn't permit them to publish his story in any print form.

Wow. If only he would've stuck to his guns and let it stop at movie 3. Although the intentions were good, Superman 4 was horrible. RIP, Chis Reeve.
Ill take Superman 4 over Superman 3 any day.
@@integrity101 I agree, at least it was about Superman, and not Richard Pryor. LOL

APRICEPRODUCTION on YT has some great Superman IV scenes that show how much this film could be fixed.
0:07 - 0:11 Wow! times have changed!
You can just feel Chris's HUGE disappointment with Superman III in this interview.
Chris B however The movie wasn’t a flop , the film did very well , yes 1/2 did better but it wasn’t a disappointment.
It was to Chris, he hated it.
Superman 3 is actually a decent piece of entertainment

Who is the guy interviewing Chris
Gene Shalit.
That is two man superman & clark kent when come to superman then disappear clark don't they meet same time
2 and 4 were the best ones IMO but I loved that Richard prior was in the 3rd
It’s laughable that you think 4 is one of the best
@@knownpleasures For sure. ok it had its problems. But I loved 2 and 4.
Chris Reeve in 1983 : no way am I doing another superman movie
Chris reeve in 1987: hold your horses there
