Since I was a little kid I loved the Gradall 600 mounted on the classic ten tired single man truck chassie. I'm 59 yrs old and was exposed to it at the age of 3or4 years old. By my dad's dad my grandpa Boren who was a ditch rider the Columbia Irragation Project in the Royal Slope area for the United States Bureau Of Reclamation in Eastern Washington State. They used Gradalls for ditch maintance cleaning weeds and slited in sections they came with Detroit power in the truck chassie and the excavator power, at the end of the day when the operater would drive back to the yard I could hear it from miles away a grown sound slowing belouder as it closer. I think back in the 60's and 70's the road Gradalls were geared low max speed was around 45-50 mph. Tonka even made a Gradall Tonka toy I had one but my step mother wasn't a very kind woman when came me , she saw me as a threat for family happiness even though my last name was given to me long before her so my stuff conveniently would disappear. Basically I didn't stand a chance with her period. Maybe God have a chat with her in the end. Anyway it neat to see that there are so many places Gradall are being used world wide. You mentioned 4955 we this comes in green paint, my learning experience in green paint 4850 to me the best tractor beats the computer/ GPS tractors today neat but if you can't take these old stick and rudder tractors across the field in straight line at night discing or ripping or what ever you can't call your self a tractor operator. Technology is great but person today doesn't know how to hold a tractor straight on a side hill without GPS doing the steering . Sorry about writing a book here and sounding like a craughty old man, you need to feel all the feed back from the equipment we sit on. comment by Kenneth L Boren I like your videos are you in the mid west??? I work for farm in Washington State.
Thank you for the story I really enjoyed reading it I like to hear history from the guys that actually lived it!! Yes I have a 4955 and I grew up running a 4850 I think the 4850 was more of a tractor if you look around my channel you will find videos of them all....thank you for watching I really appreciate it!!
Let's dig 18 is one hell of an operator . He has a great channel as well . I can't wait to see that gradall in action . My dad had one when I was little but he bought it to fix and sell . I spent the day changing oil and servicing our 2 quadtracs . We want to be ready for anhydrous application and early tillage in mid April weather permitting of course. We still need to apply lime and potash to some fields with our terragator floater . Right now is shop season for us . Keep up the good work and stay safe !
Well new to me and the seat being uncomfortable as hell because the pad is missing and the one bolt is poking me in the back just does not help the situation at all lol....new seat is definitely the next thing on the list!!! Thank you!!
@@dirtgrainsteel That one you've got I think is mid to late '60's. I'll have to look in my book. I've been wanting to try a more modern one if not buy one.
That is awesome! I would definitely call that a success. Looks like the controls will be fun to master, but I'm sure you'll get it. Does that boom or bucket "roll" so you can scrape at an angle, or was that an improvement on later models?
I know he can I've been friends with him on social media for years I should have started RUclips back when he started RUclips I've recovered several buried just never really had the thought of filming then one day I got brave enough to start filming
Lack of experience is the problem I've got 8,000 hours just in the 200 seat and probably another 6,000 hours in the seats of the 790 and 270 I know what the machines are capable of I can honestly say I have never had a excavator stuck and I've been in some pretty bad situations but I've never done something stupid like alot of these guys that rent excavators they just assume they will go anywhere and be fine and when they do get hung up they panic and really swamp them....now by no means am I bragging I've just been running heavy equipment along time and I know the Do's and don'ts
It's a G600 we are not exactly sure what year it is we are thinking early 70's I need to call Gradall and see If by serial number they can give me some history like my excavators I was able to find out who bought them brand new

It's good to see theGradall back doing what it was built to do.
It's always pleasure, when ya use a second hand machine for the first time, after ya bought/repaired it.. :) :)
So great to see the Gradall back to work. Now a good wash, full service and some odds and ends and it’ll be on the next job
