    "No One Has Ever Parachuted In The Desert Before." - Rogue Heroes (2022) #shorts #rogueheroes #movie
    SAS: Rogue Heroes is a 2022 British historical drama television series created by Steven Knight, which depicts the origins of the British Army Special Air Service (SAS) during the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. The storyline is a broadly accurate representation of real events, as described by Ben Macintyre in his 2016 book of the same name.
    On 4 December 2022, the BBC confirmed that a second series had been commissioned, based upon SAS operations in the European theatre of war.

    Lewes says the German soldiers advanced too quickly at 800 miles in six weeks. Pointing at the supply line, he tells him that it’s 300 miles too long. He suggests attacking from the Sea of Sand instead of the sea. He says they utilize parachutes to get men into the interior so they can attack Rommel’s supply line from the desert.
    FYI: The Western Desert campaign (Desert War) took place in the deserts of Egypt and Libya and was the main theatre in the North African campaign of the Second World War. Military operations began in June 1940 with the Italian declaration of war and the Italian invasion of Egypt from Libya in September. Operation Compass, a five-day raid by the British in December 1940, was so successful that it led to the destruction of the Italian 10th Army (10ª Armata) over the following two months.
    Benito Mussolini sought help from Adolf Hitler, who sent a small German force to Tripoli under Directive 22 (11 January). The Afrika Korps (Generalleutnant Erwin Rommel) was formally under Italian command, as Italy was the main Axis power in the Mediterranean and North Africa. (Wikipedia)

    Rommel used anti-aircraft guns in the desert against tanks. He was brilliant in thinking outside the box. Long range patrols harried Rommel's division everywhere and eventually won because Hitler didn't supply the troops there with sufficient supplies.

    • @estebanuranga8267
      @estebanuranga8267 Месяц назад

      I would blame the italians being in charge of shipping and protecting the supplies, at least from the books i read it's pointed out that they refused to send their ships to the ports that Rommel had taken (in those occasions he took em, like the conquest of Tobruk on the second siege i think) closer to the front lines, if those closer ports were used and properly defended, the issue of supplies would have been reduced significantly

    • @joshuacroker8224
      @joshuacroker8224 Месяц назад +3

      Actually Rommel being this master strategist is a common historical myth, his effectiveness came from previous African commanders using WW1 tactics were they set up a single row of strongpoints, so he just rammed everything at one point, then swept around to surround the others. Montgomery simply set up response forces to rush into and reinforce whatever point Rommel attacked. He was also extremely egotistic, and he only suffered supply issues because he would outrun his supply lines over and over again. His reputation came after the war, as he was a huge propaganda piece both for Germany during the war and America after who set out to make certain German commands look good so they can be publicly accepted German servicemen to help in the cold war.
      Also people have been using AA guns in AT roles since they were first invented, hence why many tanks had AA guns as their main cannons.

    • @piney4562
      @piney4562 Месяц назад +2

      @estebanuranga8267 Or, better yet "blame" the Royal Navy for crushing the Italian, German, and French surface fleets, and so denying the enemy the ability to resupply with impunity.
      You can also "blame" the garrison of Malta for withstanding their siege, and keeping up their submarine campaign.

    • @estebanuranga8267
      @estebanuranga8267 Месяц назад

      @@piney4562 crushing? During the fight on the Mediterranean the allies lost 76 warships and 46 submarines, the axis lost 100 warships and 151 submarines, that is a victory for the allies, but not a crushing victory, was far from one sided
      Malta was the key to the whole fight around the Mediterranean, got sieged and bombed to hell and back, and never was assaulted, i consider that a massive and colossal fail on the italians, Malta was a nightmare to support, supply and hold for the British, that they held on it speaks volumes about the british's capacity to organize, and the massive inadequacy of the italians for the same

    • @piney4562
      @piney4562 Месяц назад +1

      @estebanuranga8267 To measure losses at sea simply in numbers of ships is obscene. To count a corvette and a battleship both as simply "1 warship" is just unreasonable. And, warships aside, Italy alone lost more than 2 million tonnes in merchant shipping.
      In a single action (The raid on Taranto) Italy had more battleships permanently taken out of action than the British did over the course of the entire Mediterranean campaign, by a factor of 3 no less. The Italian navy spent much of the war holled up in port, because the RN had achieved near total sea control. So yes, the RN lost a lot of escort vessels, and a smattering of cruisers, as well as more carriers than it could really afford. (Although they were the only navy operating carriers in the Med). But they left the Italian navy absolutely combat ineffective.

    Rommel was killed by his own victory. When you become convinced you're superior, and in a superior vehicle you start to think differently. Your head grows and you take risks you normally wouldn't. When yhe risks pay off, you take greater risks. Like taking for granted your support can move at the same speed. Rommel thought he was something he wasnt, and paid for it. Even though he was in a superior vehicle, with a superior mind and superior crew. Once you stray from thinking like a normal man that can be killed, you end up doing things that make everyone else think youre crazy like a fox. When your are just plain crazy due to your huge head. Bigger heads make better targets.

      Rommel's entire aproach to warfare was about quick movement, striking hard and pushing through past the enemy defenses, there are arguments to be made about his ego, but he definitely wasn't pushing in just because he thought he was unbeatable and using the best vehicles ever, in multiple instances he commends the british tanks and american's weapons
      The biggest issue he had was supplies, wich he couldn't convince the italians to ship them closer to the frontlines when taking new ports, as the Italians refused to expose their ships to bombardment from small ships and planes, even when he took Tobruk the italians took their sweet time to send supplies to that new port

    Interestingly the sas parachute drop completely messed up in this mission. Killing some of them and making the mission hyper diffucult.
    As the SAS (special air service) exfilled out of the mission they ran into long range land rover scouts. They were so shocked they were out their (both sas and scouts) and from that moment on the SAS realised the jeeps made miles more sense and utilised them for the rest of the war.
    So the special air service kept the name but stopped parachuting into enemy territory.
    In bravo two zero the sas were told to take a land rover to support their mission to destroy the scuds. They ignored this lesson and went in by helicopter i believe. Meaning they had no easy escape when compromised. The rest is history.
    The sas the greatest special forces the world has seen. Even train american special ops like the seals how to do it.

    After the episode he dies in, Lewes never gets mentioned again.
