Nice job Sam. Just a tip. Your flight director / AP engagement was a little messy on take off. In weather/visibility like that, pilots would always be taking advantage of the FD system. You had no mode selected, when making your initial turn out. Even selecting HDG mode would have helped tidy up the turn. You also engaged the AP with no appropriate modes pre-selected on the FD, which resulted in the sudden directional change and the dive in altitude (FD was set as basic pitch, but you were climbing way above the dispayed indication. The plane therefore naturally dived to 'hunt' the lower set pitch mode. Setting a lateral and vertical mode and ensuring the aircraft is on the FD indications is vital, prior to AP engagement in the Q400.
Perhaps put your wipers up to cut down on wind noise so we can hear you better on these Q8 tutorials. Also turn down the sounds just a bit. Thank you for these tutorials I always learn something from them.

That would help, but I hardly think that it is part of any standard procedure.
