Sorry for the audio issue.. something must have happened during the recording process. Hopefully it’s still audible though!
Also check out rpilocator.com/?instock It will search the web for available Raspberry Pi’s!
Why does it show ship to Turkey
Pro tip for the viewers : on pc, you can use an addon to make the sound mono (I use SoundFixer on firefox)
You almost cause me a heart attack. I tough my new headphones got broken!
SHOULD you buy a Pi in 2022???
No, the question is more like “CAN you buy a Pi”??
You're right 👍
Facts, other than the 400 they're pretty much impossible to get, even the sites have given up and have just put a "end of 2022" expected date for restocking 😂
@@fetchstixRHD actually? Oh wth i just checked and the prices have increased by $30-80 depending on where you shop. Holy jeez that’s expensive
You are right. In my country is quickly comming our "first anniversary" without any single raspberry pi in stock... I think, that for many people is it already dead platform. You cannot rely on board, which is whole year not to buy and totally without informations about new batch.
Finally!! Someone that shows HTOP while doing "accelerated video playback on chromium"
I was going to buy another pi4 and saw the prices at over 100. So I bought a brand new Asus e410MA laptop for 100 bucks. So now I have a low power computer with a screen, keybaord, ram, emmc for the same price as a pi4.
The Pi 400 ( Pi 4 in a keyboard) seems to be the most cost effective Pi 4 right now. Long term Pis may save money for 7/24 operation. a couple 100 watt light bulbs jumped my bill $50 a month when left on 7/24. The Pi 400 also comes with the Latest Pi 4 CPU running at 1.8 GHz instead of 1.5, stock. Good luck folks
All good points!
And there are a few left in stock at their original price in some places, contrary to any other pi4 (or pi3). We're talking about just a few hundreds here, a few hundreds there, though, so they will be gone in a matter of days, or a couple of weeks I reckon.
@@Lukes-Tech Early Pi 4s are limited to 1.5GHz stock by the first generation CPU. It is also used on the lower memory Pi 4 boards. That is why a 2019 date on the 8Gb board may be a warning about the CPU version. You can bypass many Pi video issues by using the Pi thru a remote desktop connection. In this case video is handled by a client computer and the Pi 4 acts as a host. This is also a great way to use a Pi running linux with another computer, ( Windows, MacOS, or linux ) Your linux desktop or application is displayed from your Pi on another computer. This is how Unix, which inspired Linux, originally worked. One computer on your desk handled the screen keyboard and mouse. Applications tan on a remote host. Now Linux squeezes both function onto one system, but it does not have to work this way. That old laptop, or netbook can be souped up, using a Pi 4 as a host. A tablet or phone can also act as a client/ display computer. Your Pi 4 can run a current updated OS, even if your Display machine no longer gets updates. I am thinking of Android or MacOs, but 32 bit linux system might fit here as well. A machine running an unsupported version of Windows might be better used running a supported version of Linux directly. In any case, a Pi 4 Host can add power and versatility to any system, including another Pi 4 ( Two Pi 400 are cheaper in all up cost than a fully configured Pi 4 alone in many cases. I hope to see more Pi videos on this channel, things are always changing especially OS support. Thanks and god bless you all.
I bought an open box 400 from Micro Center for $70 two weeks ago ... dreams really do come true 🌠
100 watts per bulb? Either you stole a couple of Edison bulbs from some museum or you're using some ultra-bad-ass LED bulbs.
In one month, a couple of 100-watt bulbs consume 2 * 0.1 kW * 24 h/day * 30 day = 144 kWh. If you're paying $50 for 144 kWh, you're paying $0.35 per kWh, which is outrageously expensive. Where do you live?
depends what you would like to do with it. Raspberry pi can run 24/7 without noise with Debian type of os connected to wif/ethernet plus you have gpio pins and usb. many projects possible
Hi! I only have sound in my left speaker :O
Sorry about that! There must have been some issue when recording it… it’s still audible though, right?
@@Lukes-Tech no worries!! Just wanted to let you know :p
I thought my headphones broke and I was mad hahahaha
I have 2 running batocera ATM (one for me and my kids). Very nice to have retro focused consoles and even achievements included. To be fair, I did get them on release before COVID problems.
Old friend you helped me with pi stuff because of that I brought new pc Never forgot old is gold
Yessir! Congrats on your PC!
It’s getting harder and harder to justify buying Regular pi 4.
For a project board the requires Custom programming and GPIO I would still buy one. But for a low cost desk computer (not for games) I would buy a low end Ryzen Laptop.
At this rate the Raspberry Pi will price itself out of range for most home users. A pi 5 would have to be targeted for commercial customers that could afford to buy them.
The Pi 400 has access to the GPIO pins. You need a ribbon cable to bring them out for use, but it can be done easily. It is also easier to replace if things go south on you. The only Pi 4 I see today at a nearly sane price is the Canakit 2Gb Pi 4 bundle on Amazon. The Pi 400 is the sane Pi 4 version at the moment. Its price may go up too or it may go out of stock. Unfortunately Pi folks will be doing much more waiting than buying until prices fall to more sane levels . Good Luck folks!
Completely agree. The main selling point of the pi's was that they were super cheap. Now they aren't super cheap thus lost their appeal. To me anyway.
At this pi prices are near to a used mini size used PC. It has a stronger CPU, more memory, more ports. The power need is bigger, but you can use power management to turn off not needed parts. Pi uses 15W , mini pc is about 30W. Or some NAS can use same platform.
I bought the Raspberry Pi 4 4GB and it is really cool, there is a 8GB version out there too so I'm not sure if I'm missing too much performance. The 4GB was the only one in stock and I bought the kit for 120 euros
Great video super helpful, I was going to get a pi 4 for emulation, but based upon what you said I’m probably going to get a 400 or at least check many different sites for the pi 4
Thank you!!
I do have an old PC I was going to throw out. Never thought of using it for my project instead of buying a PI! I just found out about usb gpio for windows PCs so looks like I can pull off the same thing as a pi!
I would condone the act of buying any version of the rpi in any year. Get one and start learning like last decade!
Went again today to Raspberry PI store UK, Cambridge, since I had to go to that part of town anyway. I plied further and they say their manufacturing is now up to 50,000 units a day but the Raspberry Pi 3B+ (£33) and and CM4 (£?) face shortages since they are in the most demand by commercial and industrial clients which order in bulk and they still have these orders to fufill. They said 50K may seem alot but they have a back log of bulk orders to get out. The RPi Zero2WH (£13.50) was out of stock but you can still buy all the 4 models (£33 - 1Gb, £40 - 2Gb, £53 - 4Gb , £73 - 8Gb) and the 400 (£65 - unit only) from the shop. They said nothing about a Pi5 though. They said things should start to rectify soon...meaning about first Q of 2023 to be back to 'normal' , probably. Bought a Zero (£5) and a ZeroW (£9.50). Still limited to one model of each per customer - maybe they will limit to one RPi ONLY per customer soon? Ho hum.
Interesting information, thanks for sharing it. Hopefully what you were told is true and prices can get back on track closer to their intended price!
Good video! I have a collection of various pi units including the pi400 (I just got it) and I even noticed the pi zero 2 has go up a lot - heck even the original pi zero w has doubled now - I found my units from 2020 and are using them to make nespi units to play games on it - yeah - price hikes is to be expected with shortages but I do a lot of emulation (old school) and this has been my favorite so far - I do have PC, Mac and pi4 with twister OS and I have found that using my mac or the pi4 helps a ton when making images for other projects and various handhelds like the rg350 or the odroid go super/OGA-BE or retroflag gpi case (pi zero Gameboy) for example. I’m curious about the pi 400 and only for 100 smackers, will use this instead of the twister pi4 and make a pi station with it instead. Yeah my main focus is emulation so this worth it if you can find or snag it at a good price - the same with everything now. I subbed and congrats on sponsoring / one day I’ll get there lol
Wise advise, thank you. Will stick with Dell's Optiplex computers for now, just need to be mindful of choosing the right model Optiplex that can handle the task you intend to use it for. :)
In my opinion: If you want a PI, wait for the prices to come down. By the time you buy a cheap PC and more add-ons, you'll regret your decision. In the end, it's all about the form factor and what your using it for-including just playing around with it.
So a year? Maybe more. There are other single board computers other than the raspberry pi 4.
@@Isaac-eh6uu Your choice of course. Pi for me.
I would get a low cost pc or even better a free pc. I would only use it to learn linux and use it headless. No way should we support the scalpers in any way.
Finding any Raspberry Pi is very difficult, I'd like one for geeks projects but considering the price and outstock... I find a esp32 more beneficial right now.
Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Regarding pi5, I don’t think so they gonna release it any time soon, iirc eben upton said that their current priority is fixing out supply chain issues of the pi4, and then they gonna release the pi4A aswell, the reason that they didn’t released the pi4A was because their current supply couldn’t even satisfy the current pis demand, so they stopped working on the pi4A, so if I have to guess, the pi5 project took the backseat, but I for sure would love if pi foundation gave us all a surprise and released a pi5 soon
The current situation really sucks, I bit the bullet and ordered a pi for twice the MSRP, unfortunately I had no choice cuz nothing comes close to the niche the pi fits in, I use my pi as a portable desktop solution since I can just chuck it in my backpack and ssh or VNC into it using my iPad, which makes it a pretty small portable laptopish device, so even twice the MSRP is still better deal than the X86 pcs in pi’s form factor which cost 4-5 times as much, and support for other arm SBC is nowhere near as much as pi has
Edit: here in my country, the pi400 are selling at even higher price than pi4, so that’s out of question aswell
Ah I see about the pi5.. I wonder what the Pi4A will look like.
Your wallet may be crying after that Raspberry Pi purchase 😂.. Nah I understand the Pi's can be special for special usecases.
@@Lukes-Tech If I have to guess, something similar to pi 3A, a cut down version version of pi4 with fewer ports and stuff, but also smaller form factor
And yea, my wallet is crying for sure lol, but I am more pissed off than anything cuz I ordered 2 from separate sellers at MSRP and they were in stock at that time and 3 days before the delivery date I get a call from Amazon that the supplier has no stock and they refunded my money
@@STORMFIRE07 Oh wow that is a huge bummer… 😭
I watched your video because your voice reminded me of Elliot in Mr Robot. :-) P.S. I thought the music sound level was a bit on the high side.
The situation is awful :(
I'd say the Pi 400 has a better value now
If you need it for embedded applications and stuff and aren't interested in a Compute Module , I'd ask you to get a 3B or 3B+ whichever is in stock.
Ikr.. the situation is bad.. Idk about the pi 3 though... it'd probably feel very slow nowawdays.
@@Lukes-Tech most embedded solutions dont require that much compute power , they barely need to access a sensor and upload it to a cloud or self-hosted platform.
Its why the RPF decided to relaunch the pi 4 1gb model and promoted the pi 3 instead :)
@@Lukes-Tech My Pi3b and 3b+ have seen no action since getting a Pi4. Pi4 for the accessory options and 4 USB ports, ability to cool with a fan, real keyboard. They're still great, will probably still be good to have around even after the Pi5 comes out. Overclock as high as you can go with each to get the most out of them. 2300/933/o_v=15 works great for my 8gb Pi4B
it became too expensive unless u really need it for a specific task/project. But there are alternatives that are probably better alternatives. Would have loved to buy one but when I wanted to it was too hard to justify the purchase.
How do you keep this cool? Also what about dust ?
I predict the price of the pi4 will never come back down from $100+ and that's why I picked mine up for $120 new.. I just see it going up up up.... let's see where we are next year.
My right ear is so lonely
lol yeah.. I didn’t mean for that to happen 😢
I don’t get how the 4 has problems with 1080 when my 2 handles is flawlessly
If you want to use as a sff desktop, now we have a lot of amds 3xxx, 4xxx and intels 11th gen celeron or iven i3 i5 mini pcs that are cheapper than the pi4, 3, 3b, lwith more performance, ram, gpu power, low power usage and storage.
6:20 "You're probably not buying this just to play DOOM."
No, I'm buying this to play VIDEOBALL. _Someone_ has to see if it's possible.
Hi bro my RASPBERRY PI 4 4GB
USB and lan port not work 😭😭😭
Oh nooooo... Did it just start happening? Or do you know the reason?
I'd been using Arduino UNO microcontroller development boards since about August 2021. Due to the complexity of some of my projects I came to realize I needed more options and wanted to expand my interests to using microprocessors. In March 2022, I began looking into using the Raspberry Pi 4 because of all the great reviews and coverage these boards were getting on the web. My research revealed a staggering price increase of more than 500% in only a few months. I quickly changed my mind about moving on to microprocessors such as the Raspberry Pi 4. This is unfortunate, because there are tons of project ideas for the Raspberry Pi 4 on RUclips. However, most of those videos were made when the price of a Raspberry Pi 4 was between 35$ and 45$! How much more will people have to pay for a Pi 5? Have computer prices increased significantly since the pandemic? What about other electronic products such as Arduino microcontroller development boards? No. So, what makes the Raspberry Pi so special that its distributors can justify their absurd price increases? Didn't the pandemic also affect the manufacturers of microcontroller or computer chips? It's said that the Raspberry Pi 400 can deliver as much as the Pi 4, and that the only real significant difference between the two is their form factor. The Raspberry Pi 4 is more compact, but at its current price I have to agree that it's not worth buying it until the prices come down significantly.
not the distributors, just scalpers taking advantage of the high demand
@@justanobserver3643 I don't buy from scalpers if I buy from a reputable store such as CanaKit or PiShop. To me, these are distributors!
@@henricoderre interesting, for me, all distributors are selling them at msrp but no stock. That's why i mentioned scalpers
At that price most used phones are not only cheaper but more powerful as well. I put ubuntu on my old poco f1 and it easily runs modded minecraft, avorion or factorio servers. A simply hub and you can use it for most projects. An old poco f1 for example has 6 gigs of ram and has around 2 and a half times the compute power of a raspberry pi 4. You also get a battery and a screen in addition all for 70-80 bucks on ebay.
Back when it was 35 bucks and had a very low power consumption I could still understand its use but now I find it honestly underwhelming. An Atmega microprocessor or Adriano board is many times more efficient and computewise enough for the majority of projects with a pricetag of only 10 to 20€. And if you actually need something more powerful an old phone will generally give you alot more for the money and you won’t contribute to more e-waste by reusing an old phone which might otherwise just gather dust.
Why you don't make JLC PCB videos?
I seen old school retro games and now I am thinking of getting back into retro gaming. For that purpose would The pi 4 still be worth it?
Explained at 5:45
Even when the pi 5 comes out, price wise Raspberry lost from Intel Nuc. Im not spending 80-150 euro on a pi that needs a psu, ssd, good cooling,a decent case. It keeps $$$ adding up on the pi.
ill buy the raspberry pi interation that can handle 1080p at 60 frames videos in youtube properly....maybe raspberry pi 7 in 10 years....
Is the Raspberry Pi 4 2gb model enough for running Android 10?
I got a pi 4b in a retro console kit with 2 controllers for 126$ so that’s a decent price.
Its 100 plus dollars
I remember when this cost 20 dollars or less new on ebay.
IF you can find one
For a good price 😉
@@Lukes-Tech nah I rather get the ones that go for 3k.
It’s good for hosting Minecraft or a website but it would break faster :)
But will the prices ever come back down? I doubt it. Thoughts?
I would really really hope so. Eventually hopefully this chip shortage business will end, and it will get more affordable..
In theory they should, after all the RPi was intended to be a low-cost computer and the high prices are probably people reselling them (and maybe even purchasing them for that reason, like they're concert tickets). Well, that's provided the chip shortage sorts itself out!
Would agree with you, old Samsung phones also run a version of Linux, plug in a USB C and it blows the PI away, the PI 4 is now too expensive, for hobby projects, the Pi pico or zero usually better suited unless you actually need the power of the Pi 4
How do you even get one ????????
Yeah the audio issue is a deal breaker with head phones. I can see you commented on it, honestly... I think a majority of ytubers who come by will just bail and not read the comments. Personally, I'd reupload, even if you just mirror the audio to the right channel. It's off-putting. Good luck!
Yeah, sorry about the audio issue... I didn't reupload or change anything for this one, but I will make sure to be careful with my new videos. Thanks for commenting!
It's basically like buying an old quad core 32 bit computer limited to 4gb RAM with no 3D video card option, that can't run Windows 7. But you can run Manjaro and Firefox and that's about it. I decided instead to upgrade four Dell Optiplex Core2Duo miniPCs to Q6600's and 4gb RAM and SSD drives. So I can run pirated Windows 7 on about the same level hardware. Luckily I did everything before Covid.
As someone who's tried so many Linux distros going back to the 386, I can tell you, almost all of them and their apps swwwk. Even if you're not a linux hater, you got to admit, life on a Linux Desktop is pretty absymal. Its a great system for a server or webserver, but not a deskop. Yes, you can use it as a desktop. KDE, Enlightment, Gnome, nICE, whatever you want, but next to a Windows 7 machine, or a Mac, yeah, you're going to jump shit anywhere else but Linux and flee back to Windows or Mac.
Definitely, you're not the target group :D
I'm upgrading my raspberry pi 4
Power usage, casual programming, form factor, SOC design with RAM on board are the positive things and i hate bulky Desktops with big SMPS , and lots of fan with huge sound. Iot, embedded, Java, c ++, node programming is good on this low power consumption SOC.
Raspberry pi 4 is so overpriced compare to pi 3
$125 for a pi4? What the hell were they thinking how greedy can they get with price? What happened to $35 is that not enough for them?
I love the voice and hands ♡♡♡
raspberry pi 4b bounding router ???
Lucky... I bought some years ago. I think couple 3 and one 4. I can play retro games. If I want sbc I will go somewhere else.
I remember when 720p was 👍 a buzz word "its 720p" oh cool
Then if your recommendation is valid, a corollary question might be, "should an earlier Raspberry Pi edition be appropriate for beginners and, if so, what?"
It could be, but in todays standards the older Pi’s are very very low powered. I might recommend a different companies Single Board Computer instead. Such as the Rock Pi 4, or the Odroid M1. I’ve actually been thinking of making a video about this topic sometime. Thanks for watching :)
@@Lukes-Tech Thanks, bro, I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Scalper price?
@@Isaac-eh6uu Amazon 139.00.
Hi Ultimate Tech Hub, have you got a link for the video? Thx.
Can you explain how an old pc is a better option to use as a server over the pi4?
I would say that is where pi's really shine over everything else.
What can an old pc do as a server that a pi can't?
Then when you factor energy use, sound levels and physical size the pi is perfect for home servers?
You can run an old pc headless. Use wakeonlan to turn it on and shut it down. You don’t need it in your own bedroom. All it needs is an Ethernet cable and power cable.
@@jonny777bike Thanks but that didn't answer my question.
I asked why an old PC is the better option over a raspberry pi,
Not what can we do to make an old PC a bearable option to us as a home server.
@@tommyt4062 an old pc from a school that is giving them for free is better than giving the money to the scalpers. Amazon, eBay and other platforms are allowing these scalpers to thrive. Ultimately we need laws to severely punish these scalpers as well as the platforms that allow this. Hat makers should look into using usb-c. Platforms like Amazon and eBay need better regulation and especially with the 3rd party sellers. It’s ultimately up to us to reach to the law makers and craft laws that would criminalize this activity nationally and internationally.
Something needs done about the Scalpers.
Looking at the current prices I would say NO don't buy one. I see them going for two to three hundred dollars now, that's insane. I can buy a bottom level laptop computer from Walmart for less than that currently and have a ready to go setup.
Also check with old school computers and see if they are recycling any.
It's absolutely worth it, as long as you get it for under 60€.
I'd rather waiting for Rock 5B~
The Rock 5 looks amazing 👀
If you are gonna run a cluster rock or odroid seems the way to go.
So hard to get ahold of them.
You can buy a laptop under 200. Am I missing something
No question if you can get one buy it.
Not for the $200+ that some places are charging.
I bought 6 of the pi4 8GB pre covid impact for about 80 bucks each. I run Ubuntu. I wouldnt buy them today given they are 200 bucks. I had problems with the USB 3.0 ports going bad on one of them.
Well i bought two of those refurbished (one for a friend) dell desktop computers and both had big issues with power and hard drives after 1 and a half year. Power was fixable but the hard drive was a bigger problem losing data off course. Plus using lots of power taking up desk space. And your video showing a bit to often those " Dell computers" so this is no for me .

RPI400 has better value IMHO than PI4.

I hope dam well I learn how to use it … freaking expensive.
Is this worth the money it is nore just for the fact it doesn't use that much electric XD
It sounds like your left and right audio channels are out of phase
As of now prices went down dramatically
If you can miracoulisly get at at MSRP yet, but for the prices they are going for definitly NO.
I got a pi1b for $7
The first point, price, makes the rest redundant (as for the title question, I mean, the video is worth watching) I'm afraid. See ya next year, Pi thinghie...
I bought 8gb varient in 9300 rupees..
Can’t wait for the pi 5
The old desktop will consume more electricity than a pi though.
There all sold out!
:(
for some perspective... they aren't designed to be a day to day desktop comparable to a PC. First, they were developed based on the old BBC educational systems used in schools I'm the UK. Kids learning to code or as a Dev platform for controlling external components like sensors, machine learning, IoT and robotics and more. so... I always get a little frustrated when they are reviewed and compared to a PC. The fact that they can do desktop tasks is pretty cool. But, they were never intended to be one. the Pi 400 was really a response to remote Learning...again. Raspi Foundation got lucky...in a way... with covid. The 400s were a cheap and simple solution for working from home...cheaply... for things like video conference and desktop apps for work.
So yea.. Comparing a raspi 4 to a PC is like comparing a semi truck to a pickup. Yea, they can both haul stuff but they each have a specific purpose they were designed for. 😉
I've seen pi 4 on amazon for 479 and the nano for 679 and the Xavier 3,300 ridiculous!
