“If you’re open source, you’re kinda expected to stay that way”
I sure do love _open_ ai
Yessss lol, very open..
*was* that even open source in the first place
@@boblol1465 not really iirc, maybe in the very very beginning but the name rapidly became a misnomer
@@boblol1465 it was open source at the very start, then they realized they were actually making good money and closed it immediately. Companies are only open source until they'll lose profit for it.
@@boblol1465 AFAIK GPT-2 was the last "big" open-source model, meaning you can still download the weights and run it on your own GPU if you want
The bishop from 86745250 miles away is actually a real thing now I'm terrified
Imagine only having a king while the opponent's bishops from all four sides slowly close in on you from thousands of tiles away.
Bishop comes back from vacation
@@kocitas knightmare fuel
Nice
I'm also terrified of miles, they make no sense.
I do hope that you still talk about inf-chess on this channel, because just seeing you go is very sad, you put all the life into this game, and even if you become a footnote in 5 years, you took the first step to infinity. We might never get there, but the first steps were pathed by you.
Love!!!!
Id say the first steps towards infinity were done by newton but those were kind words
These were kind words, but if i understand what he said correctly, he is only going to open source Infinite Chess, not abandon it. (luckily)
You've seen infinite chess,
You've seen 5d chess,
So why not create...
INFINITE 5D CHESS!!!
oh god no no no no
that would be terrible
but also really cool
do you enjoy torturing your braincells?
While technically possible, the issue is that you are not going to be able to visualize time travels easily. After all 5D chess is based on a system of stacking boards to create dimensions.
It would be really fun to try it though.

So many more amazing things will happen now for infinite chess!
In a game with infinitely many pieces, early development would be literally equivalent to a material advantage :O
Yeah, you'd have more advantage the closer you get your pieces to the action!
I'm rooting for you bro. let's get this community bigger!
Thank you for going the open route! I'm confident you won't regret this. This is going to be awesome, I know it! 🥳

_The game:_
1:09 Naviary, I'm going to tell you this: not everyone who sells a game or otherwise puts in monetization features is in it for the money. Sometimes, they just want to make quality experiences, but need money to do that. I know because that's why I am intrested in gamedev. Delivering quality experiences. I'm just planning on selling because I need the money to create higher quality experiences. Don't feel like monetizing a game means you're in it for the money. Even if you aren't, money can be necessary to achieve your goals.
True.. It doesn't help websites are one of the hardest things to make money off of when you compare it to like console or steam games 😆 Ads would probably make me pence, and what do I have to offer with paid subscription plans? It just seems more worth it to open source at this point as I didn't really build it with money in mind.. I'll keep this in mind for the future 😃 Thanks for the thoughts!
@@Naviary If your site ever gets the traffic to earn you anything, even just the money needed to pay for the server itself, you should put ads on it. Make them unintrusive, maybe only visible between games!
I don't like ads. I'm running an adblocker, but I don't think that people who put ads on their pet projects are greedy. It's just a fact of how the web currently works. In my opinion, people aren't going to look at your site, see it's open source with ads and say "I'm going to go take his code and host my own site with no ads". The real draw of your site will be the community which any code-copying competitor would have to grow separately.
If your website blows up on Reddit one day and you get millions of page views for one day, you'd wish you had captured that moment so you could have the money to keep up on development and food and rent. ESPECIALLY if you're currently looking for work!
My zero cents (since you don't have ads) /j.
@@Naviary If you don't want ads but still want to make money directly from the website, you could add a donations instead! If people want to donate, they can. If people don't want to, they won't have to. If infinite chess gets popular, the community will grow and there will be more donations.
@@10-to-the-games Oh that's a great idea!! Similar to Lichess.org, we could have patrons help donate to sustain the website, and myself!
@@Naviary Not only to lichess, there are many open-source projects that thrive because of donations
You picked the correct path, Nav
now we just need someone to make a fork of it in which all of the pieces are wifus
I personally do more low-level stuff like ASM, Rust, C, etc... but I am so happy to hear that you are open sourcing this!
The size of the community will grow to infinity now!
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I don't remember when, or where, but I think I once heard ”Suppose you have an infinite chess board” well, they won't have to suppose any more.
0:02 I love this type of chess
outstanding move
There’s this thing in math where two parallel lines have one point where they meet, which is at infinity. So if I were to move my rook an infinitely far away on the first turn, the next turn I could move back and capture another rook!
this is quickly turning into old old chess battle advanced from what i've seen from the custom pieces
I love ur videos and infinite chess
keep it up! :D
Now that its open source infinite chess is only gonna get better. Great change
This is so awesome, I love normal chess and this is like it but squared. I'm so excited to see the new additions like the ones you talked about.I would totally help if I had coding skills but sadly I don't 😅
I am rooting for you! By the way, the possibilities you mentioned remind me of taikyoku shogi! It would be amazing tı see an implementation of that.
This chess variation is so long that you can see other people games while playing one
I know some JS, so if I find some free time, I might try to help. And, by the way, this is a really awesome project.
One of the things I like about open source software is that, basically, it can never be taken away. With many things, if somebody makes a poor decision, or gets bored, or dies, the thing is gone or broken forever. If it's open source (and somebody's saved a copy), if somebody cares enough they can fix stupid design changes, add support for newer systems, or bring the entire project back from the dead. I open source most of the code I write in my free time. ...On the other hand, I have a day job; I don't know how to make open source work as a job. Sounds like you're already figuring out the job thing, though. Good luck!
Haha no software job yet! This project isn't making me enough money to act as a job. But thanks!
Hi everyone.

Hi Luis!

Hi!
i have a relatively cool idea in my opinion but idk:
a ""daily"" game (aka where you play it over multiple days) where the pieces are very, very far apart and you can prepare by generating gold or something to purchase or even upgrade more pieces to form some strategy, and maybe even making some system as to where your pieces move to a certian spot while you're asleep. (kind of like neptune's pride if anyone has heard of that)
Can’t wait for this to explode!
very nice. I really appreciate this move as an open source advocate
Let's go!!!
Very cool!
Glad to see you making the right choice.
infinite atomic chess go brrr
Suggestion: Make it so that it only generates pieces when you go near them (for infinite piece games) and add a view distance limit
ok now im hyped
yYESSSSSSSSSSSS i LOVED trying to UNDO the OBFUSCATION!!!!
Of course. I'm new to programming, but I'll see what I can do.
when will the board editor come out
it'd be cool if this somehow got integrated _into_ Lichess
Ooh! Les gooo!
Im proud of you 🥺💚
MMO chess sounds hilarious and I want it so badly lol
All the future fame you are talking about here is deserved and it WILL happen. Infinite chess is such a cool concept, and its going to blow up one day.
Edit: Just imagine an open world multi player chess game. Thanks to you, its possible.
You're a legend.
guys, we can make infinite duck chess 🦆
we cant miss this opportunity
I think you made the right choice. Open source gives a lot of freedom to the programmers and makes your game easy access to everyone.
Everyone makes games for the money, but a lot less makes games just for the art.
"The possibilities are literally endless"
The possibilities are as endless as the board, you should've said...
oh the possibilities for fairy pieces
This is bout to be epic
Idea: Make a piece editor like ChessCraft, so you can for say, host your own game with a custom board setup (still infinite) with your own custom pieces
i'm honored to be in the first 500 people to watch this video
New new chess battle advanced
Cool!
are there any floating point (or similar) errors/issues in the game?
There is, beyond 10 trillion squares out things start to get glitchy!.Looking forward to pushing the bounds back further soon!
I'm now imagining bishops changing color through floating point errors and stuff, that would be funny
Very cool
good luck finding that job
also note: open source projects can be monitized, or become "source avaliable" later
this happened with aseprite, where it's source code is visible but the builds are paid and the license was change to prohibit the distribution of the builds (so you need to compile it and thats like really annoying with aseprite specifically)
or sometimes even ad supported, i saw ads on sandspiel but it is an open source project
but that will scare away a LOT of people from your project
Not to mention sponsorships. Also, it's rare, but patreon can work for _certain_ projects as well, this one in particular being very possible.
@@haniyasu8236 i agree
is ladder mate still possible with this variant? (2 rooks 1 king vs 1 king)
2 rooks & king vs king IS still enough to mate, it's just a little trickier if you haven't done it before.
Aseprite is open source, and the compiled binaries cost money, but the source is free (i.e. you can compile it yourself)
Greatest nerf to the knight chess has ever seen
Just wait until this drops...
knightrider coming soon (almost done honestly)
MMO Chess.
That sounds chaotic and I fully support it.
beyond infinite chess
Aw man, now I'm torn. I've always wanted to work on a fairy chess engine but I'm also looking for a software job and I got my own web projects to maintain. Maybe I'll just take a look around and see if there's any long standing issues I can help try to solve.
No pressure! If you are busy I don't want you to feel obligated to help
My AdBlocker: "He knew that I was stronger"
Make a Giant position like Amazon for Multiple king with the option of turning a pawn into a king 👍
WOOHOO!! Open source!
Infinite world infinite player chess. No move cooldown. Start with a 5x5 square of pieces surrounding a king. Fucking battle royale chess
wow
Finally, Chess 2
How long until people figure out a omega^5 setup?
who knows.
checkmate in omega^5
could be tomorrow
could be in 52 years
They found a way to generate every ordinal using nodes (Black can pick any branch of a tree, then 18 moves later they have to pick again; by manipulating the tree you can make anything)
I bet the game breaks after like 900 quadrillion squares
more like 10 trillion.
the limit is being pushed further tho, not that it really matters since its basically impossible to place a piece that far out with wasting like days of scrolling
Probably after 2,147,483,647.
@@hexyellow9873 Ill just guess that the game breaks after the 64 integer limit not 32
Nice.
Some suggestions could be making the models 3D, not like actual chess pieces but like having the 2D icons but raised up, like you would with a 3D printer.
Like the textures flip upwards? That's an idea!
@@Naviary dunno, but
