    did a little research on the weight difference between carbon fiber and i found out that weight for weight carbon fiber is 2 to 5 times more rigid than aluminum meaning that it could potentially weigh 2 to 5 times less than what it replaces. that's pretty significant. think about your hood weighing 1/5 of what it is now. they estimate carbon fiber weighs about 40% less per unit volume than aluminum while being 10 times stronger. so being that it doesn't need to be 10 times stronger it could be made thinner therefore saving even more than 40% weight

      Hell yah - thank you for digging deeper on that. Great stuff

      R/T Life absolutely man, thanks for always finding great topics to discuss. I never even thought about carbon fiber for my charger, that really would make a nice difference. I think carbon fiber would look killer in contrast to that B5 Blue, a nice carbon fiber chin spoiler or wing or some side skirts and maybe a hood. I think that would look amazing. just some ideas to throw out there. wish it was cheaper ...

      Timothy Gonzalez that is a significant weight difference

      Rydin N Style imagine being able to get carbon fiber hood, fenders and trunk. you'd have to save close to 100lbs+

    • @azindependentsrt5721
      @azindependentsrt5721 7 лет назад

      True they might weigh a bit more. But if you were to get a Hellcat hood, the increased air flow through the engine bay would help out. I am thinking of going with one on my '10 Challenger SRT, as it would look good and should cool that Hemi down as well.

    I love the carbon fiber look on the charger it makes the car look like it's alive and breathing.

    • @RTLife

      It does have a pretty awesome look to it - esp if it's a hellcat hood

    Carbon fiber looks great that is the only real advantage from my experience. The weight difference is minimal on our cars not enough to see an improvement in your times. One that is vented will help with under hood temps just make sure they do not allow water to drain directly onto electronics (expensive lesson learned). From my experience carbon fiber and the sun do not get along so you will probably want to go to body shop and have several coats of clear applied and keep a good layer of wax on it. Maybe I had a worse than typical experience so your mileage may vary.

      I'm not really planning on doing this - Those hoods are like $1000... To me you start doing these kinds of mods when you can no longer upgrade the engine. You start trying to find other ways to help improve times so dropping weight will help. However you're right about it not having that much of a difference esp. with a car so close to stock.

    I've also been thinking about getting a hellcat one for my Challenger. Mainly because these hemis run hotter than most V8s do, and they extract heat from the engine bay a lot better than stock. Was looking at one by amerahood as well as carbon creations, and was checking to see which ones had the best reviews. It is an SRT8 and does have air induction, but the vents are not very big as you all know and don't move that much air. The stock one is made of aluminum, so I'm not sure how much lighter they are. We've been working on making it lighter, and just recently got new lightweight racing wheels wrapped in MTs and a Braille battery. The first mod we did was to get rid of that heavy exhaust system with those huge suitcase resos, and dropped about 60lbs on that alone. The new one has open chamber racing bullets, but no resonators and is super lightweight. Haven't had it on a scale yet, but I'm guessing that it's under 4k now because it's one of the early ones and weighed 4140 from the factory. BTW racer X, you have one of the best channels going and love the Mopar content
    💪🏼😎

    Most sport shops recommend hood pins because they have a tendency to fly open at higher speeds, that made me decide against getting one

    • @RTLife
      @RTLife  7 лет назад

      damn man that would be nuts if that happened. I haven't heard about that...

    • @RydinNStyle
      @RydinNStyle 7 лет назад

      I also learned Dodge had issues with the metal latch the locks the hood down and the aluminum hood material don't mix and may start to corrode over time, causing even stock hoods to become unstable and potentially fly open at higher speeds.

    • @Vultite
      @Vultite 6 лет назад

      Take as much rotational weight off first, then look elsewhere. I'd go carbon fiber driveshaft before a hood especially if you're looking to go up on power.

    If you are expecting a carbon fiber hood to be perfect you will most likely will be disappointed.They look great in pictures and videos. Real life, many times NOPE! Unless you can inspect the hood before it's shipped and make sure there are no imperfections and waves you may want to think twice. You may get lucky, but most likely you will not.

      hahaha yah that would've been a headache - was it a hellcat replica hood?

    • @RydinNStyle

      It was, but the down side of that hood is the screen opening is right over the intake filter, allowing extra water, dust, and debris in to the engine bay.

      I know danko makes kits but only for the 05-10 models. Look up a sniper hood it's basically a viper hood, lots of ventilation and the company that makes them has a positive rep. You can get a carbon fiber one fro. Them for last I checked about 950, or you can get a remake of my gens srt hood on it that would be really unique lol
