- After nearly 30 years in existence, CHANNEL 5 is about to undergo its BIGGEST REBRAND to date! But what will it become? Why is it happening now? And perhaps most importantly, how could this affect the channel's standing in the UK television industry going forward?

#channel5 #rebrand #2025
I think Channel 5 announcers have always prefer announcing Channel 5 as 5, When the station launch in 1997 David Vickery said Welcome it 6 o'clock on Sunday March 30th and this is 5.
It was Channel 5 upon launch in 1997, then "Five" in 2002, then back to Channel 5 around 2009 or so.
Has Channel 5 ever made ANYTHING of note? I don't think they've ever sold anything here to NZ. We've had decades of BBC, ITV and Channel 4 stuff, but I don't think I can think of any Channel 5 programme at all!
05:54 - "The network regularly beats rivals BBC Two and Channel 4 in the ratings, with shows such as..... an upcoming drama featuring David Suchet". Someone should tell the geniuses at Channel 5 marketing that an upcoming drama doesn't have ratings!
It's pretty much always been known as 5 on-screen anyway, even the announcers used to say "Now on 5" during the original era. Will be interesting to see the new logo and idents though!
So from Channel 5, to Five, to Channel 5, to 5
I’m excited for a Channel 5 Rebrand, And I’m also can’t wait to see the new look Of The Logo!
I have never watched anything on Channel 5 in my life... this will not change... 😂 Nice to have you back Adam! 😊
Tiny Pop is back! You might wanna make an update on the videos of it shutting down.
This is great, with all the time saved just saying "Five" instead of "Channel Five", they'll be able to fit in even more cop shows, and clip reaction shows where some unfunny third rate celeb just reiterates the video clip you just saw.
can't wait to see more low quality messes
It's a dreadful channel, isn't it? This is the channel that gave us multiple shows, aired at 8pm (presumably a popular time slot) comparing air fryers to microwave ovens
"and coming up at 8:00pm....chicken nuggets vs fish fingers"
Welcome back Adam! Long time no see! Good luck with your show BTW!
Thank you Roger!
@@AdamMartyn No worries!
It seems that every thing we are watching will never be the same again. And go to streaming services instead to watch programmes. How technology and AI is going to affect all of us.
I remember Channel 5 starting, tuned the TV and it was just a loop counting down to the Spice Girls launching the channel, it was so "exciting"...these days the only linear TV I watch is the odd football game and formula 1
My mum has channel 5 news on most days (she's likes Dan Walker) and the announcer normally says "now its 5 news" or "now its your news on update on 5" something along those lines, so its rare for them even now to say channel 5 and those idents from 2016 are all just the 5 symbol, I think the only change really will be the tv guide saying "5" instead of "channel 5"
Cant Wait To see What Changes Channle 5 Make
The sooner streaming platforms for a single channel become the same name as the channel, the better. I'm tired of hearing "tonight at 8 on Channel 5 or stream now on My5".
Next up, the BBC re-brands itself as "B"
or Beeb 🤣
Or even BLEET
followed by itv becoming v
@@JeremyKole-id8ogYeah, that will happen next month.
These Names Are A Disgrace To The Entire Art Community
AMTV is literally my one-stop shop for broadcasting news 😂🙌🏻 from Channel 5 to 5 (though it is sometimes referred to as 5) seems a little anticlimactic!
Roll up! Roll up! Claim your letter or number now before they're all taken. 😁
Let's not forget that for the best part of a decade it was "FIVE", no channel :) I miss the FIVE era
My family still call ITV1 "Channel 3" so I don't think we'll ever say "I saw that on 5" but that's okay.
welcome back Adam 😀
History stupidly repeating itself. Didn’t we already get a Five simplification back in the early 2000s during 2002-2011?
Will we have to retune our video recorders again? :)
You still have a video recorder?
It makes sense because channel 5 was called five back then
I agree that 5 has had some puzzling rebrands (puzzling to some, at least), but simplifying My5 to just 5 _really_ takes the cake to me. I mean, a lot of fans have called Channel 5 since its launch in 1997, but at least the channel doesn't seem to need to be simplified drastically. And what about Milkshake, the channel's breakfast show showing the best of the rest of children's TV on one breakfast show? Doesn't anyone remember when it aired Disney Channel and Cartoon Network programming? I know I wasn't much around for that, but I can distinctly remember shows like Franny's Feet, Fifi And The Flowertots and the 2005 revival of Roobarb And Custard on there. But apparently it also aired shows like Bear In The Big Blue House, The Book Of Pooh and maybe even The Powerpuff Girls too. Nowadays it isn't too uncommon to see Nickelodeon programmes on the Milkshake block, isn't it?
I enjoy some of the dramas recently on 5
Is the picture getting an upgrade as most of the 5 channels are not in hd atm.
Hope you enjoy Wakefield. I've been gravitating more to channel 5 over the last few years and I look forward to see what happens next year. Welcome back.
We had 5 in 1997 uh i see thanks Adam a change is COMING! ohhhhhh SU garden
Thanks SU garden
Basically, Chanel 5 is rebranding to its former kind, like Burger King and Pepsi.
I'm not British so my opinion doesn't really matter here. However, officially calling it Channel 5 in 2024 sounds archaic. You can still call it that unofficially though -- no one's stopping you.
I always watch Milkshake every morning on Channel 5 for Thomas The Tank Engine as a kid.
Sadly one cannot watch live TV of any brand without a TV licence. C5 included. So of little interest to me and many others.
A bit like ITV being ITV1, before going back to ITV, then back to ITV1 again
ITV's the worst at the constant rebranding. They get itchy feet every few years. I can't take brands seriously when they don't know who they are themselves. BBC and Channel 4 have never renamed, and as a result they don't seem as gimmicky and cheap.
@@alexwells6876 Well BBC have gone between numbers and words for BBC1 and BBC2, though to be fair since 1997 they've been consistent and have switched back to numbers.
@@alexwells6876Merge Challenge with ITV2 and ITV4 or ITVX.
Channel 5 needs to get rid of the Children’s platform Milkshake because Milkshake needs to have its own online streaming service and Channel 5 just need to have normal programs
Paramount UK
It’s crazy how they are doing this now even when they are always trying to promote Paramount Plus, BTW glad the show in Wakefield is going well Adam
One number just 5 now what will milkshakes change
When Paramount Global Had Purchased Channel 5 in 2014 😊❤
As paramount still own channel 5...
Even though rumors they are less interested keeping it now...
With linear slowly dieing off and all streaming focus encouraged with box sets of dramas early etc etc...
Do we actually need the 5 focus now???
Turn channel 5 into the paramount tv channel
And all 5s spin off channels like 5 star etc etc paramount focused
Paramount tv (classics)
Paramount tv (USA)
NOOOOOO How will I ever watch Challenge Anneka now
Channel 5 really confuses me. From creating Britains most popular and monetised kids show about a cartoon pig, to a whole channel dedicated to Yorkshire or Cornwall
I hope your puppetry of that giant Dragon goes well in Yorkshire. Also, just naming the channel to 5 is a poor choice in my opinion. I mean, UKTV is now just U and now Channel 5 is just 5. I’m not a fan of this overly bland and generic name change companies are doing honestly, but at least I can watch this very entertaining video with a smile on my face. 👍
What day will the rebrand take place?
I’m wondering if Channel 5 will get a new logo and idents when this rebrand commences.
Viacom making yet another lazy rebrand just like how viacom made the lazy choice of rebranding to paramount. Yes viacom (now paramount global) owns channel 5.
Re: @furonguy42
A lot of people including ITV call ITV1 as Channel 3.
ITV is the second channel but forgot that when the third channel BBC2 started.
Guess it was too confusing to call BBC2 as Channel 3.
Even more confusing is that the first region of ITV was London and that came from the Croydon transmitter on channel 9.
Back in the 80's when i was a child living at home with my family use to have DER Rental Ferguson tv and my dad use to have his channels arrange with BBC1 on 1 ITV on 2 with BBC2 on 3 this use to confuse me and use to call BBC2 as BBC3 🤣
I remember when it was 5 and Five. As you say, the channel part of the name has never really been there. 5 Select, 5 Action, 5 USA, 5 News at 5. Also, who remembers Five Life and Fiver?
Yeah Adam is right. Channel 5 has called itself "five" before now. They have used both the numeral and the word in their indents. I think most of used the world "channel" because that's how it was first mooted and probably also because it was the successor the Channel 4.
Programming on (channel) 5 has improved over the years, especially the documentaries. Not a fan of all creatures, but that's because for me the BBC's version can't be beaten (similar to ITV redid Miss Marple). But there is good stuff on there - although MY5 needs to finish uploading the rest of Prisoner Cell Block H!
I never watch Channel 5 I have no intention of watching Channel 5 the only thing I think about Channel 5 is that bailiff programme police programmes and Home and Away free programs that have absolutely no interest in the marketing is absolute terrible to people like me
5 nay Pluto yay.
I really miss the 🎉
I think you explained why people find it easier to say channel 5 when you read "Will finish rebranding to 5 in 2025"
The thing that I don't get - "We were successfully experiencing digital growth therefore we're going to rename the service." - Won't that cause customer confusion? And My5 and Channel 5 were already pretty unambiguously the same thing, just one on broadcast one on streaming.
(My issue with the Channel 5 idents at the moment isn't that they're boring - On paper you can do a lot with them, in the same way you could do a lot with the mid 90s BBC2 idents, it's that they come across as ripping off Channel 4's logo)
It doesn't bother me
To quote Ed Byrne: "Dear Channel 5, isn't it time you called it a day? No one will mourn..."
Why would they do that, Channel 5 is the 8th popular tv station watch by 61% of audience in the UK according to Google.
@@scottpeacock5492clip shows about a favourite BBC comedy series or drama may be popular but they add nothing of value to entertainment.
@@bookie5667 Not according to 61% of the audiences, New Dramas out perform BBC2 and Channel 4. No reason to shut it down what would take it place on the fifth button??
I’m still gonna call it channel 5 even tho I'm American ;-;
What’s going to happen to Milkshake?
I don't see how this will change much. We'll probably get new idents and a new streaming service. But I think most Brits will continue to call it Channel 5. I think even when they were 'Five' I called it Channel 5.
No one in my household really watches much of channel 5, but the idea of referring to the old terrestrial channels as “channels”, is so engrained that my parents both still call ITV1 “Channel 3”, so, I can guarantee they’ll never just call it “5”, if they even notice the rebrand. I do think there’s a certain charm to the “channel” moniker for the pre-digital stations - I’m glad 4 are keeping it in their branding.

So Is It actually going to Be changed to just the number 5 😂😂😂😂 I watch It everyday To watch Jeremy vine What a good show that is
paramount needs to sell channel 5
As ITV , bbc continue to be uwn worse enemies by box setting things far to early killing off live tv ratings and encourage binge watching. As year pass will there be need for name iPlayer or X just bbc app and ITV app as already places to go for content..outside Olympics and stand out event tv live tv daily ratings terrible now
Is your dragon called brimstone and made by Tom Cleaver of mr cleavers monsters ad Autin Dance company if so we have a mutual friend. 👍
Bye channel 5, hello 5
I would’ve liked this comment but it has 5 likes, too perfect!
Welcome back Adam.
Channel 5,Five or 5. Thought you were wearing a Chelsea shirt for a moment.
Hoping that means that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is going to appear on 5 both Streaming and hopefully Linear, and surprised that it is not shown anywhere on linear TV in the UK
First uk tv is u and now channel 5 is 5
You know what, their logo is just 5, so……. I’m okay with it.
Still rumors paramount will sell channel 5 , my 5 app definitely weak compared to rivals , still think better merging with mass other services as far too many on offer and need big hitters take on USA rivals.
Cash spent on revamp logo and app actually be better placed in programmes as the years gone in the schedule got weaker and weaker at start if year channel 5 actually hitting channel 4 audience share since mid year gone backwards !
Could never get 5 through the aerial. And whenever I did get to see it, it looked cheap and tacky
So that's why my5 has been down for a few weeks?
Will it be '5' or 'Five' or 'five'?
As it's been around for some time, maybe use the Roman number 'V'.
Then people will see V and think it'sthe V for victory sign.
Or when the hand has the thumb at the back = a rude four letter word.
First to watch and comment! You’re a good RUclipsr! Are you doing good at your rehearsal for Jack and the Beanstalk?
Congratulations you sad little man I was the first to tell you to get a life
That won't happen until Novemeber! Been working on a different project this August!
i think this happened years ago.
I think that 5 STAR 5 USA 5 ACTION 5 SELECT will not change its names but I think they will get a refresh.
Why the name change channel 5. My 5 sounds better but channel 5 okay for the normal TV channels and they should us these to separate the different service My 5 for streaming. For example BBC1, BBC2 for TV. Use BBC3, iPlayer for streaming online. Use ITV, ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV+1, ITV+2, ITV+3 for TV and use ITVX for streaming online and so on. Just using channel 5 as a name how can you work out the channel you want to watch without knowing the number. Because channel 5 is channel 5. Not like mentioned to split the channel or group the individually
Let's say goodbye to the bland channel 5 2020's idents .
I can't wait for the new look of 5 .
I always look forward to these videos when involves news about tv channels but I worry that's its gonna be another channel shutdown update as we've lost to many of them as it is with the recent closures of The box kiss kerrang magic 4music CITV. As for a minute I thought this was about the ending of channel 5 Thankfully not the case.
Dont think it will be good for people to get paramount teaser programs from paramount plus as not everyone is subscribed to paramount. Also i think it was a bad idea that channel 5 got rid of Neighbours and amazon is doing very well with it so channel 5 loss is amazins gain . 5 do too many dramas too . And just churn out drama after drama . Just my thought
Channel 5
Eh i don't watch Channel 5 Anyway
Very Very Like Anonymous5
Is channel5 reband
5 USA and 5 action change name
I know that sounds fake to you but tiny pop has returned
Oh? I mean, it hasn't outright gone away; it's just been moved to streaming only.
Hate all these rebrands.
Channel 5 did a lot of work to make the brand more upmarket and qualitative, and now they are throwing all this away and going back to the trash channel it used to be??
I watch more of channel 5 than any other channel I think this is a build up to a move to increase the freely market don’t know why u formerly known as uk tv is not on freely as they now want to make Eden free to air with rumours of alabi and gold as well might go free to air why u absent from freely is worrying me is freely stuck with being unable to get the other channels from freeviwe

We can’t use Twitter anymore, thanks to Elon Musk - it’s now X - no - not 10 - Eks!
Can companies stop rebranding to a single character, first it was Twitter, then it was UKTV, now its Channel 5
Tbf, Channel 5 was already called just Five back in 2002, so they did it first.

Stop writing titles like a certain propaganda news channel (Talk TV)!! And actually how you type that is somehow no surprise, because you uploaded a video regarding the liar that is Keir Starmer…he is not going to save the UK 😮
I don't think I ever claimed he would 'save the UK' 😂 I don't think anyone can, we're too far gone lol
