In the year 2023, being afraid of elevators is actually irrational. From a statistical perspective.
A vehicle is defined as a mechanized mode of transportation. Elevators fall into this classification. Elevators are a vehicle.
In regards to injury and death statistics, elevators have the lowest injury/mortality rate of all vehicles that humans ride on. Safer than cars, bikes, boats, trains, and even planes.
0.002% of human beings that use elevators are injured or killed using them. Out of that 0.002% 98% of the injuries that do occur are incurred by elevator technicians.
This means that human beings are only ever injured by elevators during maintenance. Which means that a well maintained elevator will almost never result in injury or death.
Literal safest vehicle on the planet, by the numbers, fewest injuries or deaths.
If you're not afraid of getting in a car and driving, you have no reason to legitimately fear getting on an elevator.
Statistically speaking its the safest vehicle you will ever ride on.
Even outside of the statistics, they basically can't fail outside of crazy outside circumstances (think earthquake). There's a ratchet mechanism so if the elevator releases it will only drop a couple feet. A lot of folks can't really conceptualize statistics without a bit of schooling but I feel like if more people knew about the safety mechanisms they wouldn't be afraid.

He demonstrated his design by standing in an elevator and then cutting the cable and the elevator didn't move an inch.
It was after his invention in 1839 that elevators transitioned from being used only for cargo, no humans nor livestock. And began being implemented in office buildings and residential structures.
The reason why we have skyscrapers today is because of how reliable William Otis's tension spring was. It's the reason you see OTIS in many elevators, they are still using his patent or a variant thereof 200 years later because it was that damn good.

that's less irrational. power outages do occur and one could be stuck in there for quite some time as they coordinate a rescue.
but the Final Destination fear that the elevator is going to plummet to its doom is actually irrational. it literally can't happen.
People have no idea the level of ingenuity it took to make elevators in tall towers possible and make it so safe. They are real marvels.
That would be so cool if OTK did a survival show or something, with like a blue/red teams and see which team could last the longest with no food and stuff. They have to hunt their own food and no tents either just a pair of axes or maybe not even that, they have to first make their own tools.

I remember being so scared of elevators that when my parents went in one, and said ill meet you on the 3rd floor (we were on the ground floor ATT). I ran up three flights on stairs only to find myself on the first floor and cried my way to the closest employee hahaha
That lakes is quite nice place to swim in. There is a path on the road side which leads down to a very small "beach". I like to swim back and forth on the widest part. Also the used to be a wooden structure on the mountain side which we used to jump down and also use the zipline.

As a person who worked at a factory where the elevator safeties were ROUTINELY bypassed... They are very safe, they are not going to fall. Just make sure there is an elevator actually at the door when you walk in, so you don't fall down the shaft.

Could be a form of claustrophobia, which is an irrational fear of closed spaces, but again phobias have to be respected but can be conformed to over-time of exposure.

Pretty sure fear of touching fish is way more common anyway lol. Known a couple people afraid of flying, but never known anyone afraid of elevators. Can only assume those people exist. Know tons of people who wont touch fish or shrimp n stuff. Wouldnt say its entirely irrational either.

I don't get why people praise Asmon for being a recluse who eats like 2 different meals, never gets sunlight, doesn't exercise or bathe. Dudes teeth are rotting out of his head, he's losing his hair, he's malnourished and doesn't drink water. Nothing about Asmon is remotely respectable he's just good at games. The sad part is he won't even be able to continue gaming when he's in his 40's and 50's because he won't even have the energy to stay awake most of the day let alone be physically able to leave the house. He needs to get his health and hygiene in check. If anyone really cared about him they'd tell him to get his act together but instead people enable him to be a slob. Being rich doesn't mean shit if you're decrepit at 50.
smoking would make a come back if the price was better in places like Hong Kong and Australia and they didnt ban it in NZ and the quality of them was taking into account many years ago for these wana be world leader mf types that made it as cheep as possible and ruined smoking.
