I agree with you: WoR is the best Sanderson’s book to date. That Kaladin scene was the only time in my life when I actually HUGGED the book and collapsed from emotions. I forgive you for hating Lift, nobody’s perfect. 😉
This is one of my favorites among your videos, and you’re officially my go to guy for the Cosmere because I like how honest your reviews are. I’ve read the original Mistborn Trilogy and all the Stormlight Archive books so far, and while I was never quite as enthusiastic about Mistborn as you are, my reactions are pretty similar to yours. And this makes me think my reactions to the other books would be similar to yours, so on the basis of your assessment, I’ll probably pick up Warbreaker at some point. Excellent video!
Thanks so much for the kind words Philip! I'm happy I can provide hopefully some solid critique and analysis of the books and not steer you in the wrong direction.
I completely agree with you about Era 2. I slogged through it because I told myself I needed to just get it over with and I wasn't allowed to read Warbreaker until I was done with Era 2, haha!
I enjoyed Elantris. I really liked the concept. I am definitely in the minority on that I have come to learn though. It was my first exposure to Sanderson. If it wasn't for... the new take on zombies, I dont think I wouldve picked up WoK. I am enjoying Sanderson but my impressions are that Mistborn is the way to go.
We all definitely have our favorites and there's nothing wrong with that! Stormlight Archive is definitely growing into something truly special and I'll always have a special place in my heart of Mistborn.
Thank you for your honesty. I felt the same way about Era 2. Wax was wooden, Wayne was annoying, and the female characters weren't memorable. The plot was just okay.
Got advice from a friend not to read Mistborn era 2 right after era 1 Mistborn because I would be dissapointed. On my 2021 TBR, so we shall see. WOR my favorite book in all of fantasy.
So personally I didn't like Era 2 much, but basically whenever you read it just temper your expectations. It's pretty different from Era 1, the characters are very different, it's basically a Western set in the Mistborn universe. It's a much smaller scope of a story and I didn't like the characters. Others absolutely adore it though, so definitely try it for yourself.
A lot of people don't like Era 2. It's why I still haven't picked it up 😖 😰 You don't like Elantris?! I liked that book, but each to their own. Warbreaker is great. I'm glad we agree on that one 🤣
So era 2 is good (better than most other works) but the aesthetics can be off putting to people if they like their fantasy medieval. Plus, the stakes are not world ending (which I found out people don’t like). If you like detective Nior with some western mix in it, it is fantastic. Don’t expect era 1 world ending stakes and kingdom at war.
I find it difficult not to put everything in top tier LOL though Hero of Ages, I think had one of the best endings but it isn't like "happy" for sure! I am a strange human and tend to really like Era 2 Mistborn, though I haven't read Bands of Mourning YET!
Usually, sequels are having problems. Some move over the top while some go downhill waiting for the finale to save the story. For this, I'm surprised Words of Radiance is S-tier to you than The Way of Kings. It must be good at all angles, hmmm... Alex gives me new ideas.
@@alexnieves I get you. Perhaps, in any way, WoR to you is what I'm feeling with Before They Are Hanged or The Trouble With Peace. I already gave 5-stars to a number of sequels but those two by Joe Abercrombie are far superior.
@@alexnieves Just letting you know, Abercrombie is a character-driven author. His characters command the plot than the other way 'round, and from the way you review Sanderson's books it tells me that these two have different styles in storytelling.
Yeah I'm sure their styles are quite different and while I love plot, characters are the driving force of a story so I look forward to his character work.
I really enjoyed this ranking and your thoughts on the books! 👌😊 I'm currently reading Oathbringer and I'm on Part 4. Unfortunately I already feel disappointed with the story and I'm so sad, I could cry. The plot drags a lot in this book and somehow the characters are not that interesting or dynamic. I really really hope that the end will redeem this book and bring some battles and action. What do you think of the book so far? 😊
Oh man that's unfortunate to hear! I'm on part 3 and looking it overall, especially learning more about Dalinar. It definitely does feel like it's a lot of setup though.
@@alexnieves Yes, I agree on the set up. I think this book is overall slower with a lot of set up for the next one or for the rest of the series. Still I'm hopeful for the ending. Brandon Sanderson definitely knows how to write a spectacular ending. 😊😊
@@hobbitholebooks832 Hi there! 😊 I just finished Oathbringer yesterday and although I still think it was slower than the other books, I gave it 5 stars. 😅 That ending was absolutely perfect. And now that I'm done reading it, I find myself appreciating the story more. 😊 But, Storms, those last chapters were amazing.
@@hobbitholebooks832 I absolutely agree that we got a lot of great lines. Especially at the end. 👌😊 I have to say that I binge read all 3 books in only a week. 😅 That is why I think that at the middle the plot of OB drags in comparison to the other 2 books. I too was tearing up at some point but also smiling like a crazy at the next. It was definitely an emotional roller-coaster. That is why I still gave it 5 stars. Every book that makes me feel that much while reading it, deserves the praise. 😊
Sounds like I might skip Era 2 if I ever read Mistborn, I'm just not a fan of Sanderson's humour and knowing it's the most comedy heavy of the Cosmere isn't encouraging. I swear I'll read Mistborn Era 1 one of these days lol
@@alexnieves it's a shame cuz the setting sounds very interesting to me, it is the Industrial Revolution meets the Wild West with Noir tones? Or are the Cosmere fans just lying? Lol
WARBREAKER is easily my favorite single Cosmere book, with THE WAY OF KINGS being a close second. The original MISTBORN trilogy is actually pretty low on my list. I think they're the worst books he's written, along with ELANTRIS. They're still decent books but compared with his other stuff, not so much. Personally, I just hate Vin and Elend as characters. They're boring AF. Also, I agree, Wayne's humor fell so flat. Shut the fuck up about your hats, man.
Glad that we can agree about some of the Cosmere at least, haha. I wonder if I'd feel different about Era 1 on a re read but I know the first time through I loved every second of it.
This is just my tier list, what's yours?

Haha yeah Era 2 was rough to read and he's continuing it too.
@@alexnieves Such a shame too... hopefully he'll pick it up somehow!
The moment you said interludes I knew it 🤣🤣 I was afraid you'd put Warbreaker in B because it has its flaws but the characters in there I'd die for

Solid list. I hope to read all of cosmere this year.
It's mostly great stuff, I hadn't planned on reading all of it this year but here we are, haha.
Love those tier videos. So far I've only read The final empire.
You should totally read more Sanderson!

Completely agree!
WOA and Warbreaker are my S tier. FE and HoA are A tier. That's all I got for cosmere so far.
All solid books and A and S are pretty close for me with some of these.
