Can you think of the only time in practice where your players can get the most live work in? I’m not talking about running through drills or small group activities -
I’m talking about being in the field, at their position, getting live balls hit to them where they have to make a play like it’s a game. If you’re thinking about team batting practice, then we’re on the same page.
Batting practice isn’t just hitting practice, it’s the one opportunity for your entire team to practice the three big areas of baseball - offense, defense, and baserunning.
Even though BP is the best time for your players to get the most work in, many youth coaches don’t take advantage of this time and their BP is more like free time for their players where they can be lazy, goof off, and not pay attention to baseball.
In today’s bullpen bulletin, I’m taking you through my exact method for a complete, efficient batting practice that will have every player practicing baseball skills, rather than practicing standing around skills.
    3 Areas:
    1) The Hitters
    2) Baserunning
    3) The Defense

Really like the vid. Just wondering, you say to only let the player play their usual position: however, you have to rotate the team to bat all. What is your solution when your first baseman, ss, or etc. comes in to bat? Aren't kids still gonna have to swap out positions? Thanks again for the vid and info.

Great video! I'm not sure why I haven't stumbled upon your channel until recently, but as a rec coach, I'm glad I did. Lots of helpful info. I do have a question. About how far away from home plate do you usually pitch BP from?

Thanks David, welcome to BBB and I’m glad you’re enjoying the content! I’m here to help any way I can.
For BP, I usually set up just in front of the mound / pitching rubber. I feel like that saves my arm and allows for more accurate pitches for the kids to swing at. I think shorter throws / pitches are better for BP efficiency. Hope this helps!

Great advice. I assume a coach is pitching. Do you suggest a net or an actual catcher to pitch to be the backstop?

Hey there - yes a coach is pitching (hopefully your arm doesn't fall off like mine did all the time 😂). I've used both a net and a catcher, I think that's up to you. Just like the defense works on their skills, the reason to have a catcher would be for them to work on their catching skills.
So if you have a catcher that wants to put some work in behind the plate, suit em up! Hope this helps, great question!
