      Honestly - I believe it’s all about repetitions. Do 50 - 100 dry mechanics every day. Make sure each one is correct. The most important thing is developing the muscle memory where your body just does the motion without you thinking about it. I like to tell my players “do you think about your motion when you brush your teeth? Or use a spoon to eat cereal? Probably not, because you’ve repeated the motion so many times. That’s what you want with your pitching mechanics. Remember, your mechanics throw accuracy. The key is developing repeatable mechanics. The more repeatable your mechanics are, the more consistent accuracy you’ll have. I’d be more than willing to jump on a quick 15 minute zoom call to chat if you’d like! Email me at coachhart@buildingbetterbaseball.com

    Hey coach, I have stepped up to coach my 10/yo rec league this year. It’s a hybrid kid and coach pitch. I could really use some advice. We have 1 practice a week for only 1 hr. Some kids have played for 3 years and some are just learning the fundamentals of throwing and catching. In that 1hr, what do you think is most important? We only have 3 practices before our first game.

    Great video. If the first pitch is a strike that you can hit well, why wait? Are we there to hit or walk? As you mentioned, you don’t want to have the mentality of swinging at everything early, but definitely should be prepared to jump on a good fastball in the zone. This advice is rarely given anymore. This is baseball and we want to but the barrel on the ball…it’s one of the best parts of the game!

    YOU have the heart of a teacher and the brains of a coach. When doubles or triples happen, of course yoy get to see the replay immediately. (Maybe 3 times.) But if you're trying to understand what happened and aren't a baseball-centric person who already knows the rules, it's too quick and not a thorough enough explanation to understand it. Thank you.

    Not every player wants to learn or get better. There are some who are there because their parents have forced them to be and they may not even be interested in playing. This is fine for trying a new sport, but if it's clear the kid doesn't enjoy it and you still force them to be there, you're typically going to end up with an uncoachable kid. Because they don't care about the sport and don't really want to be there anyway. So no not every kid is coachable.

    Great advice, and very helpful to keep in mind that as a coach you're not merely trying to get your team to win or even just produce better athletes, but acting as a mentor for the kids' overall development - and building a relationship with them through the intentional dialogue that you discussed can be the basis for overcoming obstacles that make it difficult to coach them. This can lead to more effective development of those kids as individuals/athletes and better cohesion as an overall team. Thanks Coach Hart!

    • @buildingbetterbaseball
      @buildingbetterbaseball Месяц назад

      😅 he’s not the only one! Many players have that aspiration - the only advice I can give is a friendly reminder that even if you throw 150mph with a crazy good off speed pitch - if you’re not accurate and unable to throw strikes, that means you’re walking everyone, which likely means the coach won’t have you pitching for too long. In my opinion, learn accuracy first - then spend the rest of your career growing stronger, bigger, and increasing velocity. The accuracy will always be there. The art of Pitching is so much more than velocity. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

    If the opposite team catch the ball, can the runner run to 2nd or 3rd base?

    • @buildingbetterbaseball
      @buildingbetterbaseball Месяц назад

      Hi! If there’s a fly ball, the runner must stay at the base they’re at until the ball is caught (or dropped, but the defense has to touch the ball). Once ball is caught, the runner is allowed to advance to the next base if they choose. That’s called “tagging up”. All runners must tag up on every fly ball. Hope this helps!

    I love your videos. I’m a little league head coach for a new association. I’ve created a private channel that’s only for our team families so the kids can still get some baseball time in at home. Simple back yard and basement drills. Sandlot with the buddies drills. Very basic fundamental stuff. There’s never enough time in practices to fit all the offensive and defensive situational awareness training in so videos at home are a great way to help them understand those things. Cutoff positions. Backing up throws etc. I only have three videos that are required viewing for all my kids and they’re the three baseball brain videos. I’m a huge positive thinking and visualization guy. It all starts in the head. Teaching them about the law of attraction is a bit much at their age but essentially it’s what I stress with them in ways they can comprehend. You do what you think and how you think is how you do it. Thanks for making great videos. I actually have quite a few of yours in the RAGING BULLS KNOWING BASEBALL channel.

Also I would bounce some ideas off you of different things I’m working on to see if they’re what my audience wants. Feel free to email me: coachhart@buildingbetterbaseball.com

    If a Little League fielder chases a ground ball, and in doing so, crosses a baseline causing a runner to go outside the baseline to avoid a collision and possible injury, is the runner out?

    • @buildingbetterbaseball
      @buildingbetterbaseball Месяц назад

      The runner would not be out - the fielder is entitled to pursue the ball to make a play regardless of where the runner is. I have a “baserunning rules” video that explains it in more detail. You can find it on my channel under “Popular Videos”. Hope this helps!

    My daughter just started playing softball (age 7-8 league) and I've been trying to step in to assist with the coaching. I know that most other coaches out there are moms, dads, and volunteers, but there are some real philosophical differences between myself and the majority of coaches/parents that I've come across in that they look at the score or whether they get a "W" or an "L" more than the development of the players when they spend little to no time learning how to effectively teach the latter. In the end, it seems to be more about the ego of the adults when it comes to winning, as if winning is the only fun thing about the game. I appreciate your videos because you emphasize a healthy perspective on the end goal of the overall development of the kids in baseball/sports/life!

    • @buildingbetterbaseball
      @buildingbetterbaseball Месяц назад

      This is perfectly articulated 👍 it’s an unfortunate truth that the ego sometimes plays a role in coaching and the children are the collateral damage. We are so much more than coaches teaching a game, we’re preparing these kids for life in many ways and using this game as our vehicle. I hope more coaches soon realize this 🙏
