Chris. Your race analysis is insightful and head and shoulders above everything and everyone. As a former pro I totally love listening to to you no bs. Keep up the good work 🎉
For those who payed attention at the last stage of the Vuelta when Sep Kuss took his wife in his arms... He said very clear.. "This never again." Thus don't expect Kuss to try this again... he doesn't like it, never liked it in the past and will never go for a GC again. Roglic is gone, thus only Vingegaard remains to fight for GC. van Aert and Kooij will ride the Giro next year and a few of the young riders will join them. So no GC in the Giro next year. Only the Tour does count next season, and maybe that Jonas will do the double Tour/Vuelta....
As much as I'd love to see Sepp give a go for the Giro GC, you are 100% correct. Sepp worked hard for that Vuelta win and I believe he meant it when he told his wife "never again". But.... but.... there have been many times when a woman has just gone through the pain of childbirth minutes beforehand and said, "Never again" only to pop out a couple more kids once the pain wears off and the pleasures of parenthood settle in. So... maybe, just maybe, after the offseason, Sepp might change his mind. And, if he doesn't, I'd still support him 100% anyway! :)
Got it in 11 sec..lol Next season is going to be fabulous! Sepp could do it. If Sepp is in the same fourm, he could do it. I would love to see it. Great piece on Sepp! 🤜🤛
First! ETA- In order to win the Giro, Sepp needs a Sepp though. He needs someone to look after him if they’re gonna send him to the Giro to win it as the top GC. Sepp needs to get in that race leader mentality. You know his favorite thing to do is to play “least in sight” until they get to the bottom of a mountain
If all are on form I see a Jonas 3 peat. just too much in the last and final week for either of the Slov’s. maybe they should form an alliance in the first week or two.
If Roclic, Vingegaard, and Pogacar all skip the Giro to target the Tour, it becomes a "best of the rest" competition. 74km of time trial, Sepp is going to have to spend serious time in the wind tunnel.
Yea. That's a bit too long of a TT for Sepp to expect not to lose too much time in -- even though he shocked us all with his TT at the Vuelta. Also, Sepp has said that the more he actually practices on the TT bike, the worse he does. So... I don't think he'd be seen in a wind tunnel any time soon. :)
Sepp likes Spain and he’ll have bib#1 at the Vuelta. I would think Sepp targets winning the Vuelta after helping at the Tour while not even going to the Giro.
One thing to keep in mind is that due to the 2024 Paris Olympics the TDF is starting a week early which could affect how teams approach their grand tour schedule. l’m hoping that Jumbo gives Sepp a chance at winning the Giro. Unfortunately, I think that they may have him do the Tour (to help Jonas with Tadej, Primoz, & Remco) and Vuelta double. Just don’t see him doing all three grand tours a second season running.
One week may change things but if I’m Sepp I’m picking the Giro. Then worry about helping Jonas after that. Pidcock has said he will focus on the TdF and the MTB Olympics from what have read. 🤔🦋
Yes it can and will by Pogacar when he wins all 3 Grand Tours next year. I think he could de it if he skips the one day races and solely focuses on the GTs
Hi Chris When you talk about who is going to the vuelta, i think you are overlooking the Paris olympics. It is right between the Tour de France and the Vuelta. I think that both Roglic and Pogacar will try to become Olympic champion, and then the preparation time for the vuelta will be too short. Jonas said that he would love to go to the Olympics, if the Danish national coach thinks he can make a difference for the team. Whether it will be on the time trial or as a domestique for Mads Pedersen
Jonas won't get selected for the Olympics, there are many better Danish riders for the Olympic race designs. However he'll likely get selected for the worlds, both road and ITT.
unless Kuss decide to do the triple again, it's very hard for him to do the Giro. He has team priority as a super domestique in the Tour and he has particular preference and even responsibility in the Vuelta; there is actually not much room for him to do the Giro. And I read it somewhere else that Pogi could do the Giro as well. These choices have made the plot even more complicated.
Visma sent him last year. Not much difference next season other then Roglic is gone to another team. But he wasn’t there with Jumbo this year so I don’t see a big difference between seasons. 🤔🦋👍
Kuss in Pink! Sounds good to me but would Visma-Rent-a-Bike want to jeopardize a Tour win if Sepp gets injured at the Giro? I hope not because I would love to watch THAT Giro. So excited for next year’s Tour. Please let everyone get to Paris so we have an epic battle of The Greats. Thanks Chris for another stellar season of 🦋
70k of individual TT and the Stelvio in the middle of the stage 😢, how can Sepp Kuss win the Giro? He'll lose 4 min on the TTs and no mountain stages to make it up.
He is as good a climber as Ayuso, Hindley, Almeida, Rodriguez, Mas, Evenepoel... Unless Pogi, Jonas, Rogla or the Yates bros compete in the Giro he has nothing to worry about
I don't see Yates in that list, his TT is better than Sepp and I don't see him losing too much time in the mountains, assuming he is in similar form to what he showed at the tour de he hay me be favourite. @@mumblerapkilla5406
You gotta reckon that Bora will be sending their A-team minus Vlasov to the Tour. I wonder if EF will send Carapaz to the Giro as their best chance of a podium. Landa will probably be supporting Remco, so no Giro. I guess Trek might send TGH. Could be an interesting mix of characters vying for the top apot
Cian said he will do the Giro and Jai seems to be going there also. If those two are at the giro then Vlasov must be doing the TdF cause Roglic will need some one with him doing the Tour. 🤔🦋👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling it would be odd if BORA spent a good chunk of change on Roglic and then hobbled him with subpar support. If they brought their A-Team then they'd have a train that would be there until Kuss was starting to work for his money
Cian will only go if he himself wants to go, unless Bora already gave up on him, since his contract runs out after next season. If they want to keep him, they need to keep him happy. Roglic has a shot at the TdF, but with potentially all the big riders at the TdF, Hindley might have an even better shot to win the Giro again. Vlasov might be most normal to go to the Giro with Roglic in that sence (also more similar type rider to Rog?), but he so far hasn't shown his worth/willingness as a domestique. Ofcourse he'll definitely get the A team in terms of all the other riders imo.
Chris don't you think that it makes more sense for Remco to focus on Giro, Olympics (both ITT and road), Vuelta and World Championships next year? He would have a solid chance of winning them all, but very slim chances of winning TdF. Also it would be great to have a video about how the Olympics changes the season next year. Love the content, thanks!
Remco clearly said TdF next year. It becomes time to finally ride the TdF, even if just for the experience and maybe a podium/top-5 aspiration. There is no way he will do the Giro and also not vuelta as a result.
Question/doubt regarding Kuss' attempt on the Giro: In genereal he could do it, would be great, but I remember a couple of riders (including Froome) complaining in the 2010s that it's very difficult to do Tour+Vuelta and then Giro the next year as it's three consecutive participations. I know Froome won on the back of these participations but he still said it was very demanding. So: Is that possible or could that be a bridge too far? After all it would be Kuss' fourth consecutive grand tour. Ok, Adam Hansen did it, but I'm sure it's different for a domestique and with all the altitude camps in between nowadays.
My dream; as rivals, Jonas and Primoz battle early and poorly, and Sepp gets another early stage with 3 minutes... It could happen. Sepp for the Giro? "Formidable !" would say the French
Maybe, just maybe, Pogacar will do the Giro, Olympics double. He could be in top form for both. Anyone who rides the tour will be at a disadvantage for the Olympic road race. The tour finishes July 21 and the Olympic road race is August 4.
It all sounds very exciting. I am so pleased the mega team didn't happen. Hopefully Ineos get into contention on a couple of GT, they have seemingly lost their way in GT. Interesting point raised, if Tadej P doesn't win the TDF, 3rd time defeated, where do they go?! Plenty to whet one's appetite over the northern hemisphere winter.
He tried to make that jump this year, it wasn’t very exciting like at all. Maybe he should go back to stage hunting Moho style that’s always fun to watch
I was thinking the same thing. Before Roglic left Jumbo-Visma, I thought that he would try to defend his title and Sepp would do what he is good at, helping other's win grand tours. Now that Roglic has gone to Bora and has said that he was going to focus on the Tour, then who would be the team leader at the Giro? It would have to be Sepp since I don't think that Wout would be able to win the Giro (ok, maybe he could. I dunno). So, yes, I think that it is entirely possible that Sepp could win the Giro.
I don't think we have to doubt Sepp Kuss's TT capacity. I think with good equipment and training, he could have been 30 seconds faster in the Vuelta TT thisyear. And that would have put him in front of Jonas and only 24 seconds behind Roglic. More important is the team around him. Visma needs another super domestique. At least better than they have at the moment
if appropriate i would love a better understanding of team ownership and sponsors. just so different than our professional teams. maybe not worth a whole episode but i really dont get it exactly. thanks
Do you think any of those big names (ie, Roglic, Jonas, Remco, Pogacar) might try the Giro/Tour double? That would throw a bit of curve into your thinking.
In order for Visma to throw Sepp at the Giro as GC, they will have to be convinced that doing so won't degrade his ability to work for Jonas in the TdF. Sepp may be concerned about that too.
While the Giro is cool the Tour is still much more important. Visma - Lease a Bike will need Sepp at his A game for the Tour. Riding for a GC in the Giro doesn't seem ideal, so i don't think Sepp will do it.
@@ChrisHornerCycling Sure, but that was with Sepp in support of Primoz and without knowing how things would turn out with Sepp winning Vuelta and Roglic leaving.

Sorry Chris, you know that I agree 99 times out of the hundred with you and I do also understand that it is maybe hard to accept for an American. But let's just respect what Sep Kuss wants himself. He hates to ride for a GC (He always did) and was very clear about that after this last Vuelta. I quote his words "This never again !". So I doubt that we will ever see him in that role again. On top of that it is no public secret that Visma-Lease a Bike will play out both van Aert and Kooij in next years Giro. (At least that is what we could already read in the Belgian and Dutch media.) So don't be sad if Kuss is "just" domestic again in next years Tour de France to help Jonas win his third Tour. If that is what makes Sep most happy, we just have to respect that. ❤✌
Van Aert to the giro isn't certain, rather there is speculation about it. Visma-Lease a Bike essentially said that they still need to look at it, but that Wout would like to ride the Giro at some point, maybe this year. Maybe now they can replace him with Jorgensen in the TdF.
It's not against UCI rules for riders on different teams to work with each other, right? So how possible do you think it is that in 2024, we'll see Roglič and Vingegaard alternate attacks on Pogačar to dislodge him on a tough mountain stage, like they did last year? Or one of them to wait at the top of a summit for the other if Pogačar (and Evenepoel) have fallen back a bit, to ride with each other for the final part of a stage, like Van Aert should have waited for Vingegaard in that early stage that same year? How often DOES that sort of thing happen, especially with riders who used to be on the same team? Like whoever it was that helped Cav when that final Giro stage this year? Or someone (from Trek?) working with Pogačar on that nasty cobblestone stage where everything went wrong for Jumbo--I remember watching that and thinking, "Why are THEY helping Tadej? That doesn't make any sense..."
I would bet we see the two Slovenians working together before we see Roglic help Jonas. I can’t imagine Roglic is happy about leaving the team he built. 🤔😬🦋
Roglic wants to win and will fully ride in that way. He would only work with someone that he'll likely not consider a (big) threat anymore. So unless Pog or Jonas are already well behind him, he'll likely not specifically work with either of them against the other. More likely that he'd work with eg. Remco if they both get some lead/behind.
I don't see Jumbo winning the Giro... It's too TT heavy for Kuss, with very few opportunities to gain back the time he'd lose to G, Ayuso, Almeida, either Yates or whoever. I don't think Tullet or Jorgensen would win, although they could defs top 5. Only way I see is Jonas riding Giro-Tour, with Sepp being Tour domestique then Vuelta leader. But even then he wouldn't beat Roglic or Pogacar. Remember, he won that vuelta cause of the breakaway. He's never going to be let into a breakaway like that ever again.
If Cian Uijtdebroeks doesn't move to Ineos. Looks like he is trying to get himself axed from Bora after complaining about the gear at chrono des nations 😂
No. Kuss won't ride for GC in the Giro. He doesn't like dealing with the stress etc. In the Vuelta that stress was limited due to the presence of Jonas and Roglic. He'll also never be allowed in the break again like in the Vuelta. Then there is the ITT in the giro. His Vuelta ITT was good, but that was still over only 25km vs 2x31km (flat parts) and another 7km climbing (can be hard after that flat part). UAE and some other teams also likely will send some good GC riders with the aim of winning it. Visma is also going to send Kooij to the Giro normally and with the plenty of opportunities for him, they'll properly support him imo. I don't think Visma thus will go for GC in the Giro, rather stage hunting, giving other/younger riders a chance and maybe also send WVA to finally do another GT than the TdF? I do think Kuss and Jonas might be doing the TdF Vuelta double.
Primoz may go again for the giro. ... also for Sepp Kuss, I would think it would be a different focus on training ... gc vs domestque.... More focus on TT and maybe more endurance vs racing in bursts of energy...?
Primoz Giro ?!?! Roglic doesn't ride for Visma anymore, he left the team to be only leader at the team of Bora in the Tour. So you will see no Roglic in the Giro next year. 😉
Roglic won't have any appetite for the Giro. It's all about the Tour or nothing at his limited time left to be competitive at the top. He and Cavendish have something in common there.
Roglic has said it’s the TdF. So we won’t see him at the Giro. Unless the organizers are going to pay him some unreal money and Bora are going to pay some unreal money to Roglic so it won’t be to ride the Giro. 🤔🦋
The shenanigans at this year's Vuelta has cost JV the no3 CG rider in the world with Primoz Roglic and now Sepp Kuss has to replace him? Does this joke have a punchline?
Nope. I don't believe JV will repeat the 2023 GC sweep. Even with Kuss going to the Giro. I don't believe that Kuss can win the Giro. (ask Geoganhart). Not that simple. The Vuelta is a lifetime opportunity that is presented in front of him and he grabbed it with both hands. Besides the guy said that he enjoys being a super domestique, not a leader. Yeah, Jonas might win the Tour, but this time he might be pushed to the limit that he won't have anything left for the Vuelta. And I don't think Remco will want to do another Vuelta. Roglic, I believe he will go to the Vuelta to tie the record. He has a challenge to conquer.
@@ChrisHornerCycling Ok. I admit that you're prediction about Kuss might come true. 🦋🦋Just read an article, that Kuss wanted to go to Vuelta 2024 to defend his title. So that means he wants to be a leader. So the Giro might not be on his card. TDF said he wanted to be Plan B or the Joker (not necessarily co-leader). So yeah, he wasn't thinking anymore as the helper only.
Concerning this year Giro stages would be no-brainer for Pog - easy victory. But he's a racer and I'm sure he will have his eyes on TDF and not on Flanders - like last year. If he copy Jonas he will win but he wants to win everything and it's just not possible.
Totally see Sepp Kuss winning the Giro. That would require JV, Primoz and Pogi focusing on the Tour. I don’t see Remco as a contender for a Grand Tour. If that happened, what would that mean for the TdF? Would he slip back into a domestic role easily - after having back to back Grand Tour wins?
@@diggsfather When top opposition come he doesn't perform so good and in TDF against Jonas, Pog and Roglic he has not a chance to win it or be the top 3.

Roglic is gone, thus only Vingegaard remains to fight for GC.
van Aert and Kooij will ride the Giro next year and a few of the young riders will join them. So no GC in the Giro next year. Only the Tour does count next season, and maybe that Jonas will do the double Tour/Vuelta....
maybe Gloag develops some and is able to fight for a top 10 in GC. or they send kelderman as that giro GC leader as a guy who's podiumed there before
As much as I'd love to see Sepp give a go for the Giro GC, you are 100% correct. :)
Do the Giro, Sepp! DO IT!

Best surprise ever seeing a new Chris Horner video

Agreed. He needs a couple riders looking after him all the time. 🦋👊 🏆🦋🦋👊👊👊🦋👊👊👊👊👊👊👊🦋🦋🦋🦋
I hope Visma sees it the same way you do for the Giro.
👊🦋
If Pogacar, Vinegegaar and Roglic are all on form, I feel Pogacar is still the class of the peloton but I would love to see Roglic win the Tour.
🔥💥🦋👊
I *would* have loved to see Roglic win the Tour... until he basically back-stabbed Kuss at the Vuelta. He dropped way down in my book for that.
@@danroberts007 he actually did not, he just did not want to keep supporting Sepp while Jonas was going for it
If all are on form I see a Jonas 3 peat. just too much in the last and final week for either of the Slov’s. maybe they should form an alliance in the first week or two.
@@natasaskukit was the other way around... Primoz wanted to race, but Jonas wanted Kuss to win... I guess you didn't watch Vuelta.
Sepp did well at the Vuelta TT without much practice. He’d do even better with some focus.
There’s time to work on that still. 🤔🦋👍
Pidcock is going to focus on the Oly mtn bike
One week may change things but if I’m Sepp I’m picking the Giro. Then worry about helping Jonas after that. Pidcock has said he will focus on the TdF and the MTB Olympics from what have read. 🤔🦋

I'm calling the Giro for G!
Short answer? No
Long answer? No fucking way.
Yes it can and will by Pogacar when he wins all 3 Grand Tours next year. I think he could de it if he skips the one day races and solely focuses on the GTs
Hi Chris
When you talk about who is going to the vuelta, i think you are overlooking the Paris olympics.
Thanks Chris for another stellar season of 🦋
Great insights Chris!!!

70k of individual TT and the Stelvio in the middle of the stage 😢, how can Sepp Kuss win the Giro? He'll lose 4 min on the TTs and no mountain stages to make it up.
He’s never had a reason to improve his TT, so he’s kind of unknown.
He is as good a climber as Ayuso, Hindley, Almeida, Rodriguez, Mas, Evenepoel... Unless Pogi, Jonas, Rogla or the Yates bros compete in the Giro he has nothing to worry about
If Sepp gets some wind tunnel time I'd pick him over G Thomas. 🦋🛋️
His position on the bike in the TT was not very special during Vuelta. So I would imagine you can find some time right there. 🤔🦋
Ofcourse he'll definitely get the A team in terms of all the other riders imo.
... kuss make a butterfly effect and we are just wondering ... what this actually will overcome
next decade because now we have... more contenders?
Chris don't you think that it makes more sense for Remco to focus on Giro, Olympics (both ITT and road), Vuelta and World Championships next year? He would have a solid chance of winning them all, but very slim chances of winning TdF.
Also it would be great to have a video about how the Olympics changes the season next year.
Love the content, thanks!
Remco clearly said TdF next year. It becomes time to finally ride the TdF, even if just for the experience and maybe a podium/top-5 aspiration. There is no way he will do the Giro and also not vuelta as a result.
Question/doubt regarding Kuss' attempt on the Giro:
In genereal he could do it, would be great, but I remember a couple of riders (including Froome) complaining in the 2010s that it's very difficult to do Tour+Vuelta and then Giro the next year as it's three consecutive participations.
I feel like Kuss was given a gift. Dont think he'll get another.
Would love to see Pidcock make a jump to GC. He is so exciting to watch on descents.
He tried to make that jump this year, it wasn’t very exciting like at all. Maybe he should go back to stage hunting Moho style that’s always fun to watch
That was a crazy season but to top it off with podium domination is not likely to be ever repeated again
👊🦋🤞
Short answer NO. But what a great 2023 season. 2024 is going to be amazing!!
Amazing 👊🦋
I don't think we have to doubt Sepp Kuss's TT capacity. I think with good equipment and training, he could have been 30 seconds faster in the Vuelta TT thisyear. And that would have put him in front of Jonas and only 24 seconds behind Roglic. More important is the team around him. Visma needs another super domestique. At least better than they have at the moment
if appropriate i would love a better understanding of team ownership and sponsors. just so different than our professional teams. maybe not worth a whole episode but i really dont get it exactly. thanks
Why Houston, Dallas has a vibrant cycling community (I can't make it to Houston 😭)
Enough of going on about GC. The real action is in the “ISM” classification. Soler vs WVA. Top 2 riders in the world. 😊
Do you think any of those big names (ie, Roglic, Jonas, Remco, Pogacar) might try the Giro/Tour double? That would throw a bit of curve into your thinking.
I don’t see it. But maybe the Giro will pay one to do both. 🤔🦋👍
All I know is that we have NOT seen the last of Sepp Kuss. Thanks!
👊🦋🔥
What about Jorgensen for giro?
Maybe him instead of Wout in the TdF? Wout wants to do the giro at some point, this year seems interesting for him.
That’d be cool too. I think he could pull it off.
I don't see Visma leading with Sepp at the Giro. He can't get in tt shape without sacrificing his ultra climbing form.
I would better you could just tweak his position a bit and that would help a lot. 🤔🦋👊🤞
In order for Visma to throw Sepp at the Giro as GC, they will have to be convinced that doing so won't degrade his ability to work for Jonas in the TdF. Sepp may be concerned about that too.
I thought I read this Giro is climbing light???
It’s a GT so there will be big mountains coming. But more would always help Sepp. 🤔🗻⛰️🏔️👍🦋

While the Giro is cool the Tour is still much more important. Visma - Lease a Bike will need Sepp at his A game for the Tour. Riding for a GC in the Giro doesn't seem ideal, so i don't think Sepp will do it.

(At least that is what we could already read in the Belgian and Dutch media.)
So don't be sad if Kuss is "just" domestic again in next years Tour de France to help Jonas win his third Tour. If that is what makes Sep most happy, we just have to respect that. ❤✌
Yep.
He looked pretty happy to me after the Vuelta. 😜🦋👊

Hope not !
If Cian Uijtdebroeks doesn't move to Ineos. Looks like he is trying to get himself axed from Bora after complaining about the gear at chrono des nations 😂
😂👊🦋

Yep. He would slip right back into domestique roll. Well…… assuming he won the Giro with the same level fitness that we have seen from sepp this year.
