Egan stopped posting his power in October or November when it started shooting up. I drove behind him on climb in Colombia in December and he was going at about 18 kph on a 5-mile, section that doesn’t dip below 11% at 10,000 feet of elevation. I used watts calculator and gave me 385 watts or 6.7 watts per kilo.

For sure he will, but I must say that increasingly find the whole national tribalism thing to be ridiculous and pernicious. How much does your passport define you? How similar are you to a stranger of a different age or class in your own country? How different are you from the man of your age and life stage in the adjacent country? Anyway, we are all indoctrinated in this flag-flying bs, as thats the basis on which many of the worlds powerful people remain so.
Plus Matteo Jorgenson, the American, might be Visma's third best climber in TdF. Don't sleep on that guy, super talented. And with his new team, I'm sure he will further improve his performance. Don't forget that he was 2nd last year at Tour de Romandie, only behind Adam Yates who came 3rd in the Tour de France later that year..
Of course yes, Geraint is Welsh Mr Horner, please. And I say this as a bona-fida Englishman! The other slightly amusing thing in your video today was the shot you used at 7:55 when talking about can Julain Alaphilippe find his form again. The story of this picture: Yes, Julian is in fabulous form, and he wants the glory of winning solo in yellow at the top of the Planche de la Belle Filles...... So off he goes with all his French panache with something like 300m to go...... Geraint is watching him and thinking 'crikey, I can't do that, I know I can only do the last 200m at full gas'. Geraint waits and waits.... then goes at 200m, catches Julian and wins the stage! I think Julian finished maybe 4th, absolutely windmilling across the line almost at a standstill. So imagine that; Geraint knows he's on the form of his life, and then still having that patience and self awareness, in the heat of a Tour de France mountain finish when you're at your limit, to think through the situation and ride to what you know you can do. This is one of things that makes the top top guys so special. As an englishman riding in France, I can say that I witness a lot of Julian's panache around me (and a lot of wheel sitting too), and a rejection of lots of what Team Sky initially brought in - 'it's stealing the soul of the sport' they say. Before the French get to experience the holy grail of a French rider winning the Tour on a French team again I think it needs not only a young French rider of the new generation brought up in the new methods, but also new French Director Sportif's too - as they all still think in this 1980s fashion - think Marc Madiot and Jerôme Pineau..... But I do want to be here in France to experience that when it does happen, boy will that be special, an entire nation partying! Thanks for all these videos Chris, really informative, thanks for sharing the benefit of your experience.
I think Wout van Aert's absence is more than Kruiswijk could make up for. It's never only about rushing up the hills but how you control things during all the race. Agreed that Visma Lease a Bike is not necessarily the top team; we'll see.
Thanks! Chris! Very informative as usual, brother. I see👀 you might have a little eye irritated. I hope you didn't forget like I did one day, I thought I had my sunglasses on during a ride, and I went for what I thought was my SG. Instead, i jammed my eye👁😵🙈
its not perfect, but to get an idea of power you can look at the steep+long segments that they were training (or racing) up and plug it into some climbing calculators drafting is always a question mark tho, check the fly-bys i guess. even then you never know, but it can give you an idea
I can't see Egan Bernal up there with the top contenders in the tour. Vingegaard, Pogacar and Roglic will be in shape like never before this year, and on the last mountain you have to beat all of them to win. I don't think Remco can do it as well, this year (first tour). But we are looking into a crazy tour with so many skilled top riders.
I can't imagine ineos dominating, but I think they are the fourth strongest team and maybe they can do well in Tour. It would be great to see Bernal at a great level again and seeing Carlos Rodríguez at the same level as past year
I wasn't a fan of the INEOS team in the old days, because they were too boring to look at. But right now I am a huge fan of their young riders like Pidcock and Tarling. They are both very fascinating and big talents like all the other youngsters on the team
It might come down to the fact that during this year's Tour de France, the top four teams (UAE, Soudal, Bora and Visma) are so focused on each other and they allow another team (INEOS) to win the Tour.
True. That could happen. But I bet if does that it’s Remco who wins because the other three are watching each other though. But certainly G, Carlos, Tom, and Egan might be the ones to get it. 🤔🤞👊

its going to be really open i think, every team has some issues or diffenrences compared to last year. for ineos, however, i think they will be the 5th team. reason for that is simply that they dont have a main leader like the other 4 teams. i dont think any of them can compete with the top 4 GC riders in the world. on paper for me UAE looks strongest with ayuso, soler, almeida and yates as climbing helpers, that looks so strong, but they have 2 issues too, first ofcourse that pogacar rides the Giro before the Tour and second that i think these helpers are most likely to ride more for themselves i think. the big problem for Jumbo imo is van Aert not riding and kruiswijk has to be at his best, which he isnt always (but if hes near his almost giro winning form then its ok). for Bora the problem is mainly that its a very new team and that protecting roglic is more difficult then protecting the other top GC riders. also im not sure if ppl like vlasov will want to be helpers. lastly, soudal, i think the main problem they will have it both the strength of the team (i think its the weakest of all teams) and ofcrouse the main problem will be hoping Evenepoel doesnt have to many bad days (i think even 1 bad day could make him to be out of the picture).
I would agree with all of that and add that it will be very interesting to see which rider of the four favorites refuses to work together. Because how many times have we seen four leaders all working together. Never I would bet. There’s going to be drama and stories around every corner at this years TdF. 💥😱👊👊
Julian Alaphillippe will go to the Giro and according to team boss Lefevere will not be in TdF as Lefevere thinks that Alahpillippe doesn't ride in a smart way and wouldn't be good in helping Remco (crazy statement, but that's Lefevere haha)
Pinot spent too much with his goats. And had some bad luck. Julian could learn too save a bit or energy from time to time. And now we are all waiting for the next big French super star. 🐐 🤔
