Stand Atlantic in San Diego, 10/29/22

I saw Stand Atlantic at the Voodoo Room at House of Blues San Diego, one of the smallest venues they've played this year. Miki, Jonno, and Potter all did their own setup which I don't see often for headliners. They came out with Bonnie for doomsday. Stand Atlantic have proven that they know how to open an album, and it really shows that they know how to open a show too! This went into Jurassic Park, with lots of audience screams. Skinny Dipping is a classic and the title track of their first album. Wavelength got the crowd going and I was surprised at how close the band was, I've had barricade a couple times but never been this close to the artist. Bonnie came over to the barricade a couple times to sing. They played three songs in a row from their newest album: hair out, switchblade, and pity party. The San Diego audience made it very clear how they felt about LA when Bonnie talked about the show up there. I was so close that if Miki spun too hard I'd get hit by his bass neck. Lost My Cool is definitely a classic of their discography and one of just three songs of their first album that was played. The energy picked back up again with van gogh. They followed with dumb, Drink to Drown, and bloodclot which is one of their most fun songs live. No song got the crowd as excited as Lavender Bones. So much so that I got my hand smashed between a crowdsurfer and the barricade. They followed with four songs that don't get played live often enough: DWYW / Soap / Cigarette Kiss / Cabin Fever with the last being my favorite. The main set closed out with Blurry, deathwish, and Hate Me (Sometimes). The band came back with the oldest song on the set, Coffee at Midnight. No concert I've seen has had quite the same energy as the ending with molotov did, Bonnie was right on top of us and Potter came in all the way to the middle of the pit for the end.
