The best lesson I got from my professor at University was-shoot.If you think too much or how you could have made a great photo but you didn't, it's a wasted shot. There are hundreds of documentaries and hundreds of photo books, on how Ansel Adams, Annie, Sally Mann, Martin Parr, Robert Frank, Vivian Maier, Bresson, Cappa, Mccurry, Irving Penn, Salgado, Mccullin, Mark, Warhol, Lang,Meyerowitz,Cunningham, whoever...did their work. It's good to see their work, but go out and shoot.Imitate them at first, why not...over time you will get your own thing. That's the best way. Spending the whole damn day on what specs what camera has, how many focus points, speed, this and that, what's better what gives more depth and dynamic and whatever, with no shots is a wasted time.Grab what you have and shoot.
Some people don’t care about gear but some people do and I bet most people do. It’s has just become the thing to say “that gear doesn’t matter” or not to talk about gear and focus on shooting. I think it makes people that like gear feel as if they are doing something wrong by liking gear and talking about gear. Listen, all I’m saying is that you can take pictures and still love the gear.
DigitalRev used to have an occasional segment called something like “pro photographer with a shitty camera”. I thought that was brilliant and it kinda reinforced just exactly the point you’re making about gear.
my point of view of how i create photos is by taking lessons, writing them down ,study them hard and then when time comes for shooting then i just be present in the here and now and let it flow and focus on emotion in subject eyes when its possible
Jacques Gaines Photography I’d be interested in hearing as well, thinking about getting the year membership since there is multiple lessons from many people that I would be interested in.
Many 'photographers' here on RUclips seem to dislike Leibovitz's work - but what seems to be often missed is, regardless of gear, from her days with Rolling Stone, on through the rest of her career she is the one whose work sold magazines. Her front page sold and when she needed helicopters or hotels, editors paid out because she could increase sales on one issue. One thing about her experience (and it is vast) is just how relevant it is in today,s media world. If the course helps with how to get published and be paid then it's worth the money, but being a similar age to Lebovitz don't think the world we knew back in the day still exists - it doesn't.
Did you already watched it? I was really excited about the class when it was announced, but the real content off the class is a lot of talking, but I miss a lot of real information. really digging in on creating projects... The masterclass from Hans Zimmer is way better and more in depth information on his thinking n techniques.
The gear talk is getting so so old, like what u like let me do the same, it has all become background noise and actually began to stop me from enjoying photography. I AM LOOKING FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO MAKES RUclips VIDEOS NOT A RUclipsR WHO MAKES PHOTOGRAPHY VIDEOS!!
Its really the fault of all of us, they just give us what we demand. Their goal is to make videos that are viewed a lot and any of them will tell you gear videos get the most views. I really cant blame Ken any more than myself but after recognizing it I am trying to do something about it ; )
You would not believe the difference between a video where I put a title like "One strobe setup photo shoot" and "One strobe setup photo shoot with the fuji xt2. I get 20 times the views minimum.
Longrider I couldn’t agree with you more. We cannot keep up with all these new products on the market. If you cannot keep up with what you have how does purchasing new gear going to help? I moved from Canon 70d to Fujifilm XT10 with lighting kit as well as softboxes. am satisfied with what I have so far to date I just need to be out there shooting more. Well said and noted for 2018.
Ya gear is my downfall. Bought the xt2 day it came out and then the d850 when it came out and many lenses. I spend more time not shooting. Hope to change that in the new year. At my age of 54 you would think I would be smarter.
Yup! I just finished a review on it. It comes out the 26th. But that is the conclusion plain and simple. Happy that I took that and not the single course

I definitely is part of the "toolbox" that I mentioned at the last part of the video

Oh yeah I remember that. Kinda cool

Sounds like a good approach
I'll be more interested to hear if you got anything worthwhile out of it than why you bought the course today.
I will let everyone know once I look through the courses. Thank you for the suggestion

Great information brother. I am so glad I didn’t get in on her class. My perspective is you learn as you shoot and over and over keep shooting

The All access choice is best!

All you get to here is "I, me, myself..."
Kind of agree. But man I love her work. so whatever I can get from her I will take
You're a good speaker
Thank you
Goolge?
I've heard her course was not that useful,
Depends how you look at it. Here is my review:

Liebowitz hasn’t done anything meaningful in 20 years.
Neither has Picasso
Picasso is dead.
Rey Patán For all intents and purposes so is Liebowitz.
+John K Bullshit. I constantly see her work in Vanity Fair and Vogue, and her pictures are magnificent.
She comes from Lezsbaeynea.
