That's what I call double standards. In stories like these, the guy can be very much older than the girl and people will swoon over it saying that the guy is mature and etc. But when Eleceed breaks the norm and makes the girl older, those exact same people who swooned earlier are against it. Why?
No. People like us have a problem with age gaps regardless of the gender & identities, for example koikimo a Japanese series has a male char as the elder while the girl being younger & only the 14yo girl fan groups were siding the anime on MAL. If we hate it, we hate it by heart we're not hypocrites. But in this case it's 2 years which most people don't mid but yes jiwoo is way too dang immature & series is focusing the way of developing romance instead of character development (Jiwoo as of now is only surviving coz of luck or kayden) so I definitely agree with alliya saying "people are using it (romance in general) as an excuse to drop the series" coz yes the romance part is being pushed into narrative unwantedly.

I think this is due to the fact that females tend to mature earlier than men, so dating younger for a woman feels like much more of an age gap at that age. Once they get a bit older and are both fully matured adults, it is much more normal for women to date down a couple years. Dating while that age is like walking on eggshells due to developmental rates.

As someone whose parents are 10 years apart in age, the age gap never really bothered me with the romance. It always seemed okay by my standards since the age gap was only a fifth of my parents, as well as the fact that it makes sense that a kind and peaceful person like Jiwoo who's still new to all this would act in these situations.
Age gap is okay as long as both met when they were adult but it's a different case if one was a teenager/child and the other person was an adult.

Yeah and even now it's still only implied. I still feel a bit uncomfortable with it, because the two really just don't interact that much compared to the rest of the gang, and the difference between their personalities is a gaping chasm. Jiwoo is slowly closing that gaping chasm, and he's got plenty of time for it, but even if their hypothetical chemistry improves they still need to interact more to improve their dynamic. Fortunately, the author hasn't done much with it and it seems like a subplot that they'll probably follow through with only towards the end of the series.

As a fan of action genres, i prefer a little romance added. Just a bit. Not as much that will affect the story or dynamic of the characters
but i honestly love it, those subtle and cute interactions, and I think Jiwoo is quite mature, maybe not to the level of Jiyoung, Jiwoo has this sense, I can't really explain, but he is not totally childish
he is mature at times and childish at moments, which I don't think is bad, he is mature at appropriate times

The author may have shown a hint of romance there, but we have seen more from a certain two in the friend group and possibilities from other students. So I don't have any problem with it because it is too little with how often they appear to interact and can be seen as his natural "I'm nice and people give me favors for little reason" affect on people. Not denying the implication, but you see more effort, interest, and emotion from other interactions when comparing them to this.
But the Noona still 19 yo, need to be mature and older because of her environment that need to interact with higher ups, and need to show dominant as leader...also for MC being high school full of life, responsible, positive thinking...im still reading this...and i think both of them so cute...also the MC friends... hinting smtg... 😉
Unpopular opinion,, I think most people probably stop reading it, not because of “age gap” it’s possible because it’s a action genre and when there romance involves it usually a bit of a distraction for some readers, and the more it continues the reader start losing interest;

I don't read romance, I hate it. When I'm reading an action manhwa or fantasy manhwa I get so mad when they force romance in it but I actually really like this couple, Jiwoo is a sunshine and Jiyoung is a baddie they make a perfect couple I like that Jiyoung can be herself when she's with Jiwoo and that she doesn't have to worry about being the perfect guild master with tons of responsibilities.

I never saw this as something bad but supported the idea. Our cinnamon roll helped a lot of people to heal and made friends with them. And so his friend kinda payed him back or threw him under the bus and called him out to be his sisters boyfriend. What I loved the most he didn't chicken out and went with it. He need to grow mentally and slowly get stronger with time. She already has a lot on her plate and he knows that. That knowing pulls her heart string and makes her happy that someone other than her brother sees what she is doing. Trully hope they end up happy together 🥰
Not having a childhood can sometimes make people more mature. Which is the case with jiyoung.
She has no friends and has never dated because as a child she was forced to be, not only the face of an entire country but also one of the most influential people around.
Jiwoo too is getting more mature as chapters go by as he continues to understand the world of the awakeners.

And of course she should appear as more mature even if she is 19 afterall she runs a whole organization if she act as a normal 19 years old there are other factions in the organisation ( like the glass guy's dad ) . The other factions can easily oppose her and play politics and say an immature 19 years isn't suited for run a whole organization and try to replace her as head 😑😑. Tbh i like them as a potential couple also feel like their feelings are mutual.

I read the webtoon up to the latest chapter. I don’t think she’s that much older, she is his friends sister. They emphasize how she is very young for being in her position. So she couldn’t be that much older, she just acts very mature for her age.

I don't see much of a problem, especially after finding out that they're so close in age. (The small age gap helps here in my books) yes Jiyoung appears super mature and what not. However I believe part of the reason (aside from her own natural personality traits) is because she has to be. Not only is she the chairwoman of her own organization (which happens to be one of the biggest in the country) but she's also rank one in Korea. She understands the complete seriousness of the matter especially in an awakened if eat or be eaten.
That being said, we don't know much about her childhood. We've seen glimpses with Jisuk's past, but not her own. With being forced to become an adult fast and take on TWO giant responsibilities as well as be apart in a plan to challenge the hierarchy of the awakened world (I'm referring to the plans that lead to the world thinking Korea was weak because they purposely hid their potential) she may have become closed off in a lot of areas. Or atleast expressively numb. You see this a bit when she gets a little awkward when Jiwoo compliments her.
Yes Jiwoo will likely mature in the next few years as he becomes a legitimate adult, and taking that time will be ok for their friendship to go before it ever becomes more (that's if it does).
Also, side note: in my opinion, with how the writings are going about this sub point. (As I understand anyways) it portrays a type of relationship building that you don't see a lot in manga and webtoons (or atleast I don't) where there is a real slow process of appreciation that is built first while the two individuals are focusing on other important things in their life. They're not being swepped by infatuation but growing as friends as they focus on their own goals and priorities in their current present state.
This trope has existed since manhwas were first made but it's usually the guy who is older and more mature and the age gap even bigger. I can cite 1000 of examples of this. How are people finding this uncomfortable?

What the hell are you all on about? Their relationship is the best part about eleceed, yes even better than those cool action scenes. I'm not gonna lie, this anticipation of their relationship becoming solid is the only thing that has kept me reading the manhwa weekly. Even when i drop it for a month or two, I still think about how amazing it would be if they are finally together, and this has brought me back to it again and again.
It's one of the best webtoon, reason being it's not too heavy like all the sad webtoons where all MC has a terrible past or they're mentally unstable this one is very light action comedy based and it's super wholesome the age gap is ok, it's just few people still live in the stereotypical thinking where the Male has to be older than Female or they both need to be same age, which is really stupid, it's 22nd century, in Korea its pretty common for men's to fall for older women's and vesa-versa. Jiwoo isn't immature or younger, he's just a hopeful person. Probably I don't see Jiyoung as mature for her age since she's the older/head of the household, that's more exposed to the harsh environment at early age which forced her to be mature, I could relate to her, and most tend to be attracted to pure hearted like jiwoo.
