This movie is really sad, being gay means so many struggles from a young age.
Mi mi - let me just add that struggles are not always a bad thing, they force many to grow..... being a gay guy my entire life, altho it wasn’t easy, and hell i made many mistakes- It made me who I am today- and that’s someone that understands both sides of the situation
@@toddpa-c3826 many lgbt people carry traumas from childhood or youth from growing up being treated as they are less and strange. I know gay boys who have had sex with females just to try to change their own minds... when you dont even like females, thats a trauma.

Mi mi to be honest, with out the extra’s - honestly back then that entire process of sleeping with the opposite sex and then the same was called experimenting..... believe it or not there is something truly called Bi-Sexual and altho many times it allowed people to think they “Could be “ so called normal and heterosexual... and unfortunately many times the pressure of society , your friends and family - yes they could create that typa of pressure on someone. For me - altho i knew deep inside I preferred men, I also wanted my own child , and I was in a place in my life that so call double persona was used for the purposes you state, however for me I loved my wife to death and altho I mighta convinced myself to sleep with both sexes - it something that I truly THOUGHT i should be, and for everyone to accept - that I was St8..... in the end tho it was ME who made all the choices, some where right with me- and some where NOT...
Unfortunately - everyone makes errors and altho at the time I knew I was NoT Out to hurt anyone, esp not any of my partners but people are humans and we all do a great job on Justifications and eventually coming around to see our Own truths ..... for me could have went either way !! -

Ok, seriously, it’s 2020 now. Not 1920. Can we please have a gay love story movie that isn’t depressing and has a happy ending? I know these producers may have good intentions, but these depressing, heartbreaking movies are, in the end, only making gay youth even more depressed about being gay. They portray the image that if you’re gay, falling in love is bound to end badly. We live in a time now where there are finally millions of examples of gay men living happy lives, falling in love, being accepted by their families, and successfully starting their own homes and families.
Can we please start portraying that in gay themed movies and start actually giving hope to the new generation of gay youth?
We’re the only community that has next to no positive representation on the big screen and it’s well past time for that to change!

I highly recommend My Big Gay Italian Wedding if you want a happy ending and a lot of laughs. :)
First of all, to your point about the LGBTQ+ (but especially gay) being the only community having no positive representation is subjective. Look at the black community - there definitely is not a lot of representation. However, it is changing, but so is the representation of LGBTQ+ stories. Take Love, Victor, for instance, but I digress. While I agree with this particular story being depressing, its showcasing the unfortunate reality of a lot of gay young teens especially, but not exclusely, in foreign countries. There is a lot more acceptance in America (even Canada), opposed to some countries in Europe and Asia where its deemed inappropriate, devious, and/or illegal. Unfortunately, if you're going to make a LGBTQ+ movie and make it realistic, whilst tackling prevalent societal issues, then, of course, you're going to have to delve into how society views gay people and relationships. A lot of LGBTQ+ people and couples face tremendous endeavors, and to not showcase that in a realistic story, especially one that is set in Iceland, would be unconducive to the story of what the writers were trying to translate to the audience.
I think what this movie does, is show homophobes, and bigots, how closed minded they are, and explains to us, the difficulty in being young and gay, to maybe allow more change, because many youth commit suicide when faced with this scrutiny. Or at least have difficult lives. So sad. Great movie.
Gay culture is based in victimhood, which is why almost all gay movies show a dark and depressive story because that is what it means to be gay in this world according to the LGBTL.. etc
If some director creates a movie with a happy story and the end of ,the LGBTL ... etc, will be critical furios about a story where being gay is not the most painful thing in the universe, they will claiming like mad dogs, that being gay is horrible, the society hate us, the world hates us, has to be victimhood present in gay movies.
but you can see shelter 2007. exellent movie with happy end.

To me this is more of a drama, because of the way Christian gets beat up for stealing horses, and the father or stepfather is a bully, I was hoping to see Christian would hit that bum sith a rock or whatever he had.

Most Scandinavian people I've ever encountered seemed to be happy and they had a pleasant demeanor about them. Still, it's kinda cold up there in northern Europe imo. 😁
