I love how you are explaining your no-buy list without putting anybody else down. You are explaining why you are doing it, but not why anybody else should.
Your videos make me so calm and give great inspiration. The crawl towards a minimalist lifestyle is the goal for 2023. It's so hard in the capitalist and over stimulated society. I just wanna take one month at a time in 2023 to get rid of things and not bring in unnecessary items. This video is the calming influence to continually strive to that goal.
I have a no-buy list in year 2022 and I succeed, but I spent on other things which are out of my expectation but necessary for my current state. So, I decided not to have a no-buy list for 2023. Instead, I will think intentionally about what I will probably buy in 2023 according to my goals and my future. Since I am quite careful in spending my money and don't like to buy things that end up 'no use', I am quite relaxed in this part of minimalism (purchasing stuff).
It has been almost 3 years that I am watching your videos. It helped me a lot with developing a minimalist mindset and lifestyle. I feel you are authentic and there is nothing fake about your content. You are yourself, I really appreciate it ! That’s a real thing specially in the fake social media world!!! In addition to the authenticity, this slow, clam, minimalist lifestyle resonates with me. I myself have a busy schedule due to my job, and your contents help me slow down and be in the moment. I satisfied my “no plants buy year” by learning and experimenting with propagation and seed saving. It’s been so much fun that I’m doing it again in 2023. In 2022 I focused on food producing plants, in 2023 I’m increasing flowering plants for my bees and other pollinators. It’s also very easy to increase your plant diversity by taking cuttings from friends gardens when you visit. And my spare propagation successes are nice gifts :)
Great video. I want to use up all bath products before buying any new. I think we are having a minimal Christmas. Just hubby & I we are going on anniversary trip in January & to baseball game. I don’t need any new shoes or handbags. 😊 No smart devices in our home except phone & TV

Hi Vera🙋♀️ you mentioned in one of your recent videos how we can waste so much time scrolling on our phones. I stopped watching the news and clicking on news stories a while ago as they were having such a negative effect on me- I am aware of all the terrible things happening globally but can not deal with the constant stream of gloom and doom churned out by the media. Since RUclips introduced 'RUclips Shorts' on my screen I have found myself wasting hours scrolling through the endless clips just to catch the few which genuinely make me laugh or feel good (dopamine hit ?) I have now altered my RUclips home page by clicking on 'subscriptions ' and will alternate through my curated list of quality channels to keep the annoying shorts and depressing news items from appearing on my home screen. I don't subscribe to any of the social media channels such as Facebook either. I've realised how tragic it is that at a time when we have access to so much positive educational and enlightening information at our fingertips that so many are lured into following the mindless, destructive and negative content which is also freely available. Keep up the good work Vera- your channel is my favourite and brings me so much peace, comfort and joy 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My goal in 2023 when it comes to buying is to give more things i don't use to others who will find use and value in them. I've done it this year and it's making me feel good. No more trying to sell things and stress myself out, if I don't see myself gifting it when it's no longer useful to me, than I will try not to buy it in the first place. These types of videos have been inspiring me a lot lately! I feel like I need to write down which goals I have for my spending and decluttering habits because, as of right now, everything is only in my head and idealized... let's have accountability be the word for 2023 because I know that for this year, at least, I've probably slipped up quite a few times.

Books! I will enjoy the ones I have and continue to declutter the ones that no longer serve me. When I need something new I will head to the library to borrow.
Plants are a hard one for me also. I love adding them into the home but I have learned to do it gradually and I keep a schedule for watering, misting, fertilizing, etc. I place similar plants together so they can be placed on the same schedule. It really does simplify things.
Vera, you are such a joy and have brought me so much mindfulness. I've learned to "stop and think" about things more since watching Simple Happy Zen. I've learned not to take the things that bring us joy for granted. And I've learned that it's ok to throw some things away that I was hanging onto just because I thought I should. They are just things. It's not the item that is valuable, it's the memories of the people in our lives. I've let go of so much since watching this channel. I totally agree. I am on a low buy year in 2023. I am only replacing things that are used up or breaks. And, I will decide at the time if it is worth replacing. Our categories and thoughts are pretty much the same. May you be blessed!

we have a smart lighting system and switches, it is handy, as it switches on the lights in the aquarium and feeds my fish even if I'm not home. Also sometimes, it's nice to ask my Google assistant to switch off some lights when my hands are full, or when I'm in a different room, and forgot to turn off the lights. It might not be a necessity, I could live without it, but it can be useful sometimes. ☺️
I find smart things help me simplify my life... and makes it more cozy. F.ex music goes on in the morning, blinds go up when it's time to wake up... I love it! Not to mention vacuum cleaner that does the job while I'm out doing something else.

I’m with you in many things not to buy next year: new clothes, trendy stuff (I also don’t know what’s trendy 😂, my IG is only to follow artists!!!), decorative objects, junk food, etc. I don’t buy journals, because I make them myself out of papers that could end up in the bin, cardboard, old papers, etc, etc. I make my art journals, because I love art, but I also don’t waste money in trendy art supplies, because we can make beautiful things with cheap ones. HI!! I do not know if you have mentioned this in other video or so, I just found your channel yesterday... I do not buy clothes softener, ehen I do laundry I use vinegar and clothes become nice and soft. I also use enviroment friendly soap for laundry, so the washing machone water can be used to water my plants and cleaning my yard with no harm for my pets. I also use vinegar for cleaning floors, so I do not buy liquids to clean my indoors floors. Excuse my English, I am not native speaker. Haappy 2023!!!!

I feel the same way Vera about reconnecting with minimalism and being grateful for what I have already here plus not spending time shopping on line or in stores. I haven’t bought a great amount of things this year, it was mostly clothing but I am very close to having everything I’ll need for the year. I just stumbled across your video in my recommendations--love your list! In 2022 I made a sincere effort to rid our home of things that no longer served a true purpose and I'm hoping to continue in 2023. Clothing has always been a big issue for me, so starting in May, I made it a goal to get rid of one clothing item per week, and if I bought something, another item had to go as well. I wanted to do this for a whole year, so I still have some time to go yet, but it's been a great way for me to do it gradually, evaluate what I have and whether or not I really did like it. Might even do it through to the end of 2023! Happy New Year to you!

The idea of changing desires and priorities is so relevant to active minimalism. I appreciate how you explain that in the past, you used to buy many cute purses/bags but, that now you are a one bag kind of gal. Humans are always growing and changing and we need to adapt our choices within that factor. Excellent video
I have Alexa and smart plugs and I love it. I use Alexa to control the lights, set routines turning them on and off. I use Alexa to listen to audio books. I have a smart garage door opener, so I always get notified when my garage door opens and closes. I can control my thermostat from my phone, which means I can turn it up or down so the house is comfortable when I get home. Many many uses. Oh and set up alarms and notifications to remind of things.
I'm also doing a low buy year, hope I will make it. I'll do some more savings instead. I do understand that with crowdy museums. I'm very sensitive because of MS and burnout and can't stand busy environments for more than five minutes. Me and a friend went to an exclusive spa for a day. It was by the coast outside Stockholm and we went there on a weekday. It was so lovely!! We were almost by ourself and it was also much cheaper than in a weekend. That was a wonderful spa day, I will probably remember it forever. I'm and already thinking I want to go there with my husband. It was really affordable and I think those things are good for the relation as well. Wish you a lovely 2023!

I Love my yoga and zumba and I try meditation and Journaling. I love my matcha green tea and I want to conserve my energy for my family and adventures with them. Good sensible ideas and well presented. I'd add to the list bedding and towels. It's easy to want to buy new comforters and sheets when you go to the store and see them on display. Most of us only need 2 sets of sheets and half a dozen towels.

I like pretty much everything you've said except the journals I find that writing about my life in journals is so beneficial mentally emotionally spiritually and physically and also you can look back after a few years and it's so helpful to see how we've changed and grown in different areas gotten closer to a higher power Etc thank you very much for your sharing.

We have gradually added more and more smart lights that we use thru Alexa to turn things on and off. It's really just a lazy way to turn on a light when it gets dark without having to get up. One thing that is nice is being able to turn lights on when we're not home so the house doesn't seem unoccupied.

Oh yes, I was in the Van Gogh Museum in 2017, organized a time slot from home and it was so crowded that I couldn't enjoy the stay and just hurried through the rooms to finish the visit to be able to breathe... outside. All the other ideas are also good. I guess everybody has their own week spots. Mine are stationary, but at least with the fountain pens it feels my collection doesn't need many more as I can just write with one at a time 😉 Have a great 2023, Vera!

I love how specific some of these get! I feel that next year will be about decluttering and using the things that I already have... I plan on moving to a different location within the next couple of years, so I want to start preparing for it well in advance and do things mindfully. I don't find smart items very useful, except for a couple of light bulbs that I purchased recently... My eyes are very sensitive, so the ability to adjust light brightness and color is helpful. Thank you Vera for your videos and advice in 2022. Your videos are always so calm and relaxing and they always inspire me to try and be more intentional about my time and what’s in my life in the first place. I’m wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and an amazing 2023! I have a couple of electronic devices that need to be replaced in 2023, so I’m going to really try and be more mindful of my other purchases to make up for that expense. Definitely home decor for me is a place where I’m most definitely done and don’t need anything else to add so that’s a no-buy. Clothes will be a low-buy, I’ve been given a lot of pyjamas sets for Christmas, so I don’t need anymore for the year. 😂 Stationary again is a no-buy, I have plenty of pens and notebooks for work and I’m still trying to use up stuff. The hard category for me to keep as a low-buy will be books - I still love having physical books - although I donate as I’ve read them and I only keep my favourites. But I’m going to try and use the library more, especially for e-books or books I don’t know if I really need to buy, but still want to read instead.
I am trying to function in life with less stuff with more purpose. I used to game a lot but not so much any more, so last year I sold all my physical playstation games. I have kept my PS4 as I know I will regret it, but sold all my peripherals (kept one controller). I have moved to digital content for my music, moves and books too. Regards the smart home. After putting alexa speakers through my house a few years ago, all in all it's not worth it. Unless you want to spend a small fortune on tech. I too am not upgrading my tech, not getting a PS5, not changing my iPhone etc. Thank you for some amazing idea's.

Your videos make me so calm and give great inspiration. The crawl towards a minimalist lifestyle is the goal for 2023. It's so hard in the capitalist and over stimulated society. I just wanna take one month at a time in 2023 to get rid of things and not bring in unnecessary items. This video is the calming influence to continually strive to that goal.

I have a no-buy list in year 2022 and I succeed, but I spent on other things which are out of my expectation but necessary for my current state. So, I decided not to have a no-buy list for 2023. Instead, I will think intentionally about what I will probably buy in 2023 according to my goals and my future. Since I am quite careful in spending my money and don't like to buy things that end up 'no use', I am quite relaxed in this part of minimalism (purchasing stuff).
That sounds very sensible and smart! :) Love it!
I'm also not a fan of most smart devices/ "the internet of things". I don't want or need my entire existence to be "connected"!

I satisfied my “no plants buy year” by learning and experimenting with propagation and seed saving.
It’s been so much fun that I’m doing it again in 2023.
In 2022 I focused on food producing plants, in 2023 I’m increasing flowering plants for my bees and other pollinators.
It’s also very easy to increase your plant diversity by taking cuttings from friends gardens when you visit.
And my spare propagation successes are nice gifts :)

Great video. I want to use up all bath products before buying any new. I think we are having a minimal Christmas. Just hubby & I we are going on anniversary trip in January & to baseball game. I don’t need any new shoes or handbags. 😊 No smart devices in our home except phone & TV

I stopped watching the news and clicking on news stories a while ago as they were having such a negative effect on me- I am aware of all the terrible things happening globally but can not deal with the constant stream of gloom and doom churned out by the media.
Since RUclips introduced 'RUclips Shorts' on my screen I have found myself wasting hours scrolling through the endless clips just to catch the few which genuinely make me laugh or feel good (dopamine hit ?)
I have now altered my RUclips home page by clicking on 'subscriptions ' and will alternate through my curated list of quality channels to keep the annoying shorts and depressing news items from appearing on my home screen.
I don't subscribe to any of the social media channels such as Facebook either.
I've realised how tragic it is that at a time when we have access to so much positive educational and enlightening information at our fingertips that so many are lured into following the mindless, destructive and negative content which is also freely available.
Keep up the good work Vera- your channel is my favourite and brings me so much peace, comfort and joy 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My goal in 2023 when it comes to buying is to give more things i don't use to others who will find use and value in them. I've done it this year and it's making me feel good. No more trying to sell things and stress myself out, if I don't see myself gifting it when it's no longer useful to me, than I will try not to buy it in the first place. Plants are a hard one for me also. I love adding them into the home but I have learned to do it gradually and I keep a schedule for watering, misting, fertilizing, etc. I place similar plants together so they can be placed on the same schedule. It really does simplify things.

At 10:25 you look really pretty in that hair bun and makeup. You should wear that look more often.
Also you have helped me a lot with my journey. I've minimized a lot and reduced my shopping by 97%. In 2022 I only bought a pair of jeans and shorts and only because they were a replacement for old ones.

we have a smart lighting system and switches, it is handy, as it switches on the lights in the aquarium and feeds my fish even if I'm not home. Also sometimes, it's nice to ask my Google assistant to switch off some lights when my hands are full, or when I'm in a different room, and forgot to turn off the lights.
It might not be a necessity, I could live without it, but it can be useful sometimes. ☺️
I find smart things help me simplify my life... and makes it more cozy. F.ex music goes on in the morning, blinds go up when it's time to wake up... I love it!
Not to mention vacuum cleaner that does the job while I'm out doing something else.

I’m with you in many things not to buy next year: new clothes, trendy stuff (I also don’t know what’s trendy 😂, my IG is only to follow artists!!!), decorative objects, junk food, etc. I don’t buy journals, because I make them myself out of papers that could end up in the bin, cardboard, old papers, etc, etc. I make my art journals, because I love art, but I also don’t waste money in trendy art supplies, because we can make beautiful things with cheap ones.

HI!! I do not know if you have mentioned this in other video or so, I just found your channel yesterday... I do not buy clothes softener, ehen I do laundry I use vinegar and clothes become nice and soft. I also use enviroment friendly soap for laundry, so the washing machone water can be used to water my plants and cleaning my yard with no harm for my pets.
I also use vinegar for cleaning floors, so I do not buy liquids to clean my indoors floors.

I feel the same way Vera about reconnecting with minimalism and being grateful for what I have already here plus not spending time shopping on line or in stores. I haven’t bought a great amount of things this year, it was mostly clothing but I am very close to having everything I’ll need for the year. I just stumbled across your video in my recommendations--love your list! In 2022 I made a sincere effort to rid our home of things that no longer served a true purpose and I'm hoping to continue in 2023. Clothing has always been a big issue for me, so starting in May, I made it a goal to get rid of one clothing item per week, and if I bought something, another item had to go as well. I wanted to do this for a whole year, so I still have some time to go yet, but it's been a great way for me to do it gradually, evaluate what I have and whether or not I really did like it. Might even do it through to the end of 2023! Happy New Year to you!

I have Alexa and smart plugs and I love it. I use Alexa to control the lights, set routines turning them on and off. I use Alexa to listen to audio books. I have a smart garage door opener, so I always get notified when my garage door opens and closes. I can control my thermostat from my phone, which means I can turn it up or down so the house is comfortable when I get home. Many many uses. Oh and set up alarms and notifications to remind of things.
I'm also doing a low buy year, hope I will make it. I'll do some more savings instead. I do understand that with crowdy museums. I'm very sensitive because of MS and burnout and can't stand busy environments for more than five minutes. Me and a friend went to an exclusive spa for a day. It was by the coast outside Stockholm and we went there on a weekday. It was so lovely!! We were almost by ourself and it was also much cheaper than in a weekend. That was a wonderful spa day, I will probably remember it forever. I'm and already thinking I want to go there with my husband. It was really affordable and I think those things are good for the relation as well. Wish you a lovely 2023!

I Love my yoga and zumba and I try meditation and Journaling. I love my matcha green tea and I want to conserve my energy for my family and adventures with them. Good sensible ideas and well presented. I'd add to the list bedding and towels. It's easy to want to buy new comforters and sheets when you go to the store and see them on display. Most of us only need 2 sets of sheets and half a dozen towels.

We have gradually added more and more smart lights that we use thru Alexa to turn things on and off. It's really just a lazy way to turn on a light when it gets dark without having to get up. One thing that is nice is being able to turn lights on when we're not home so the house doesn't seem unoccupied.
Having the option of turning your lights on and off for security when you're not home does sound like a helpful thing 😊

Oh yes, I was in the Van Gogh Museum in 2017, organized a time slot from home and it was so crowded that I couldn't enjoy the stay and just hurried through the rooms to finish the visit to be able to breathe... outside.
All the other ideas are also good. I guess everybody has their own week spots. Mine are stationary, but at least with the fountain pens it feels my collection doesn't need many more as I can just write with one at a time 😉

Hi, Vera, amazing video, m watching your video for last 2 yrs , very inspiring, you changed me a lot , previously I used to buy so many useless stuff frequently, specially clothes, handbags, footwear and makeup materials, OMG , my house was a kind of storeroom, but slowly I realised the importance of minimalism, started to throw or donate things , Although not decluttering enough, but I am determined to discard atleast throw one garbage bag full of useless stuff everyday. Thank you so much Vera for sharing such a wonderful videos.

Thank you for your inspiration! This my first year crafting a no buy list and it’s actually very freeing because I know what to focus on and what to avoid.
I love how specific some of these get! I feel that next year will be about decluttering and using the things that I already have... I plan on moving to a different location within the next couple of years, so I want to start preparing for it well in advance and do things mindfully. I don't find smart items very useful, except for a couple of light bulbs that I purchased recently... My eyes are very sensitive, so the ability to adjust light brightness and color is helpful. I hope you have a delightful end of the year, Vera, and a wonderful 2023!
HUE lights ('smart' lights) really add value for me; they make it easy to alter the mood/feel and are easy to use.
I just love being able to crawl into bed and read my book and when I’m ready saying “Alexa lights off” and go to sleep!

Thank you Vera for your videos and advice in 2022. Your videos are always so calm and relaxing and they always inspire me to try and be more intentional about my time and what’s in my life in the first place. I’m wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and an amazing 2023! I have a couple of electronic devices that need to be replaced in 2023, so I’m going to really try and be more mindful of my other purchases to make up for that expense. Definitely home decor for me is a place where I’m most definitely done and don’t need anything else to add so that’s a no-buy. Clothes will be a low-buy, I’ve been given a lot of pyjamas sets for Christmas, so I don’t need anymore for the year. 😂 Stationary again is a no-buy, I have plenty of pens and notebooks for work and I’m still trying to use up stuff. The hard category for me to keep as a low-buy will be books - I still love having physical books - although I donate as I’ve read them and I only keep my favourites. But I’m going to try and use the library more, especially for e-books or books I don’t know if I really need to buy, but still want to read instead.

I am trying to function in life with less stuff with more purpose. I used to game a lot but not so much any more, so last year I sold all my physical playstation games. I have kept my PS4 as I know I will regret it, but sold all my peripherals (kept one controller). I have moved to digital content for my music, moves and books too. Regards the smart home. After putting alexa speakers through my house a few years ago, all in all it's not worth it. Unless you want to spend a small fortune on tech. I too am not upgrading my tech, not getting a PS5, not changing my iPhone etc. Thank you for some amazing idea's.
