Yes, I'm definitely both a minimalist and a neat freak, have been so for many years. We had a house fire in 1991. Thank goodness, no one was seriously injured. Insurance required us to count and list EVERY SINGLE ITEM. Oh, my goodness! It really opened my eyes to how much STUFF we had!! And it made me see that family is really the most important.
I would say I’m minimal-ish, striving toward minimalism for 20 years, now. It’s hard when you’re naturally sentimental, share a house with others who aren’t minimalists, are raising a child, etc. I have a minimalist wardrobe, minimal knick-knacks and wall art, have downsized my book collection, etc. But I did recently decide I’m too strict with myself overall and need to allow myself to have for instance some scented candles because they make me feel happier and some holiday decorations.
I think everyone is their own level of minimalist. The challenge is to get there without wasteing assets. You do you, and when u feel comfortable in your surroundings/possessions, you are there. Much love x
I’m a minimal-ish person right now, but consistently trying to be a minimalist. It feels so good to declutter, clean out and get rid of stuff!! It’s addicting!
I am pretty hardcore minimal….I don’t have things around that I don’t use nearly every day. I keep all my surfaces clear of all clutter. My clothing is of a similar colour so easily interchanged, and I don’t follow trends. This has helped me not only save money but live mostly anxiety free, as to me clutter exacerbates feelings of stress. I 💖 minimalism.
I find that being content with what we have rather than what we don't have is an effective way to resist accumulating unnecessarily things or stress. Being content doesn't mean giving up on self-improvement, but rather having a state of mind of calm thankfulness while striving to be a better person. Maybe that's why a lot of journaling guides include a section on gratitude. 🤔
“Silent messages and emotional labor.” Wow, that truly describes it! Recently I have parted with all of my handbags except 3- a beautiful leather Aigner from the 70s, a Vera Bradley tote, and my Louis Vuitton Speedy I finally decided upon after 20 years of trying to find a preloved one I could afford. I could not enjoy it until I eliminated all the others that did not spark joy. I am now on a digital minimalism journey with a flip phone. Imagine carrying a LV and using a flip phone😂. I am more content than I have ever been.
I checked what are the 3 pillars of minimalism : simplicity, usefulness and clarity. As I got older I gravitate towards simplicity in all areas, have no love or eagerness to make things complex when you can get things done in a simple way. When I buy or want to buy something, I question its usefulness, which to me means if I would be using it daily and would it in return, add goodness to my life? If yes, I get it. Clarity is like the glue of both things. A cluttered space makes me very uncomfortable now and drives me up the wall... I find it a little bit hard having to share space with someone who is more messy, and the response is.." messy is creative " hahaha, I wonder if there is a tidy version of "messy creativity" ;) Anyway, I don't like labels nor believe in them, but yes i look for simplicity, usefulness and clarity in life and my surroundings!
This is my jam also. ESP simplicity. Idk if it’s me getting older and just tired of things like “chores.” I used to be really bad about buying the latest “wonder cleaning gadget.” I found that the simple basics work for me far easier and better. You know I guess it was like if I needed an instruction manual, or if it’s heavy or clunky machinery...I prob won’t even use it.
I am in the process of being a minimalist. I gave away 3 pairs of Ugg slippers, 3 pairs of ariat cowgirl boots that I’ve only worn a couple of times. Also 5 bags of items from my bedroom yesterday to good will. I am enjoying the clutter free space 😊 thank you for your video!
I love my spaces being clean, organized, not cramped, and aesthetically appealing. The label of minimalism is not a goal for me, because decluttering is a means to an end. It’s not so much about having as few things as possible, but not having unnecessary or too many things, and about having the things want and need
I am a collector and I am happy surrounding myself with things that I love, so no I am not a minimalist by definition. But I have also reached a certain age and the phrase "you can't take it with you" now resonates louder than it once did. So for the sake of my heirs I am trying to let go of those items that no longer bring me joy to own. I also choose my activities with this same minimalist consciousness. I do more things I want to do and less of the things I think I "should" do.
Hi Vera...you inspires ✨️ me... Getting better in my minimalist life Before I'm minimalist Every space I want to put stuff Now I found your channel.. I found its so relaxing 😌
To simply become more in tune to what I need in life is what I am striving for. I had an injury 3 years ago, and it has drastically changed my life. I can no longer do so many things. As I go through all of my belongings, I am letting go of a past life with the hope for a new future. It isn't easy, but I look forward to the end result. Thank you for today's post.
Wow Jill, thank you for sharing. I'm so sorry you had that injury and that you're life is changed like this. I think it's amazing you're on this journey of self discovery through going through all of your belongings and that you're creating space for a new future for yourself. Wishing you all the best with this and sending you a big hug
Thank you for the good wishes and the hug. Mostly, thank you for your posts. This journey can be hard, but your posts are helpful. They help to keep me looking forward instead of just sitting down and spiraling into a why me pit. So again - thank you. Know that what you do has an impact.
Vera, your number one tip is exactly what happened to me, how I started to feel! For some reason, until now, I never associated it with owning less!😊 I accept myself the way I am and have less fears!🙌
I do good with being more minimal for a few months, and then I am right back to my ways of wanting.. I want to break the cycle. These videos help ground me back to why I’ve started the minimalist journey. Thank you Vera! ❤️
Simplifying in every day life is a sanity saver. I have a nearly 6 year old son who thos past year has an official diagnosis, it's turned life upside down even more than the previous year when we were just waiting for appointments to verify. He gets overwhelmed easily as does his mom. Simplifying our routines really have made a huge difference
I would say I am minimal-ish. It’s really hard to be a complete minimalist with a partner and children who are not. But I have to say that in the last 4 years I have gotten rid of at least 70% of my stuff. Just stuff that I was holding onto for “some day”. I used to spend 8-10 hours a WEEK cleaning my whole house and moving around my extra stuff. Now it only takes a short while to clean and so much easier to maintain. You have a responsibility to the stuff that is yours. Responsibility of upkeep, moving it, cleaning it, fixing it, etc. The less you have the less responsibility and the more freedom. Seriously.
Absolutely a minimalist (however, it took finding information to understand it)...and I've always been an immaculate neat freak. It brings me peace and calm. And thanks for sharing your tips. I honestly see how minimalism positively affects your life.
I am having a huge clear out at the moment as I want more space which I believe will create a fresh flow of energy in my home and more space for dreams to grow! ☺️
Thank you so much for your lovely calm videos! I call myself a minimalist, gave decluttered so much over the last year moving from a large house to a much smaller apartment. I feel so much pleasure in owning less, and yes it has had a positive effect on my mind. I love my peaceful home. 🥰
I describe myself as a recovering packrat. I had a lot of fears that had me collect and insulate myself with "stuff". I have sorted through my emotions and worries long before I saw any progress with decluttering. My house is at a comfortable density now, much easier to take care of! Im not minimalist 'yet' but Think that is where my heart is heading.
I am definitely on a journey still because everyday I look at my stuff and feel so overwhelmed. I let go of many things last year and I'm feeling ready to do another round 😊
Hey Vera… you look beautiful 🥰. Love your natural hair colour. It suits you so well. Thanks for your videos dear. It’s helping so many people. People need to learn more about minimalism and simple living these days. Keep up your good work 👍🏻🤗
I agree! It is mostly, I think, for your mind you want minimalism. The mental health part is what most people do not talk about but is exactly what minimalism is about! Not what you have or not have, how many or whatever. It is about you feeling great about your life, your space and what you fill it with! ❤️
Thanks Vera, great video! I agree about how the visual clutter adds to your to do list and the role of companies making you feel that what you are is not enough!
I loved what you said about consumption chaos, that's how I feel about social media too. I would consider myself tidy but not a minimalist. I have a lot of hobbies like collecting anime plushies and that kind of thing, which makes it hard to go minimalist. Great video, thanks! XOXO
I do not consider myself a minimalist. I love variety and abundance with my possessions, such as colorful jeans, shoes, and accessories. That being said, I appreciate the relief I experience when I declutter and let go of what I no longer want or need. I just went through my wardrobe and accessories and was surprised with how much I took out. It’s like shedding skin! Like I’m letting go of an old me. It’s a reflection of how I’ve grown and changed over the years through my own actions and mindset as well as with changing life circumstances. I love the space that decluttering provides, making room for what I really want as well as future items I may acquire. I am happier when I let go. Now for the 30+ years worth of written journals…that’s another story! 🧐😉 Thank you Vera for being forthright and honest in your videos. I always enjoy watching! ☺️🙌
I am a minimalist at hart. Not in decoration style. But in almost all other aspect. Have for years only bought exactly what I need and never had to declutter as things not working or not fitting are taken out directly and replaced if nessesary. To have a place for everything, is also something hugely importent to me. But that is not really minimalism just commando sense and to like order, I think. I agree that if you have order and not more stuff than you easily manage then all the things you talk about is true! You get more calm, grateful & happy! 😘
I'm moving in the right direction now and would say I'm more "minimal-ish." Your videos help keep my momentum going and include other aspects of minimalism to my life too, so thanks!
Released 90% of the stuff in my life-my mantra was...remove/repair/replace. (Less is more) My space “feels” healthier and lighter. Lots of hard work, but well worth it, in order to get to a calmer, more intentional way of living...now I paint/bake/write and draw.
As usual, your ideas are spot on! I have a strong aversion to visual clutter, and I am a compulsive tidy-er (I don't think that's a real word!) I live in a small space with very little room for storage, so I have to be aggressive with cleaning. I have become so much more relaxed about life in general now that I try to eliminate anything that does not add value to my life. I love Saturdays because I know that you will post a new video🌟
I am a minimalist in waiting! Watching your videos helped me to start getting rid of the excess stuff, mainly clothes right now. My wife has overheard your videos as I watch them, now she is in the mindset of down sizing. I grew up with my mom having 14 brothers and sisters and so they threw nothing away. Our house was always cluttered and it was just how it was, always cleaned it but still cluttered. Helping her to downsize has been hard but getting there. Growing up that way it was easy just to buy and keep everything, but we started to spring clean and throw things out or donate them. I’m now ready to start to declutter and make things easier. One little step at a time! Thank you!
Oh wow, so nice that you and your wife are both excited to downsize a bit :) You're so right, one step at a time!! Wishing you and your wife all the best with your decluttering goals, and of course all the best for 2023!
My family calls me a minimalist. I love tidy and organized space, so I'm constantly tidying and organizing. I believe myself to be minimal-ish. I have lot of the minimalist habits down after years of practice, BUT I'm still stuff-shuffling ( just moving things around, organizing over and over instead of getting rid of excess). I don't feel at peace yet. Love love love Goodbye Things book. I still have too many things giving me silent to dos. I love staying home, but I feel restless in my home. Irony is- my visitors love my minimal looking home.
Great video Vera, I can relate to all 5 of your points. I like the term minimalish for myself. I began my decluttering journey 6 years ago when I retired. I was now spending time at home realized how much stuff we had accumulated and didn’t use. I donated, recycled and trashed so much stuff trying to be responsible in the process. A huge job but so worthwhile. I learned to forgive myself for the excess, and I am much more mindful in my purchases now. I encourage everyone to give it a try, even in one area of their lives. ☮️
You're so naturally beautiful, Vera, and I'm so glad you know it now. I've been there as well, in some ways, embracing myself for who I am nowadays, and this has led to more confidence ... it's a journey and minimalism has definitely been a big part of it. ❤🙏💕
I'm still working on it. There have been times where I have found myself going back to old habits and end up beating myself up about the clutter and chaos in my life. Your videos are really an inspiration, they are helping me get back on track.
I am on a minimalism journey after having to "clean up" after many family members who "left this realm"...I have always been neat and tidy and find that a good balance of possessions helps me find peace. Your channel is excellent! Thanks for the encouragement to get rid of clothes that are "aspirational." My life is much different that it was 10 years ago and it is not going back, only forward. I am taking the time to match my wardrobe with the life I have now and want in the future. No more heels, no more "occasion purses" or "occasion outfits" and only things that fit my post menopausal body. Like puberty in reverse....ain't no going back :)
Vera, I wanted to share and tell you I have been thinking about burnout, the need for self kindness and sleep. I have been working on both… oh and including “doing nothing”. I don’t have the sleep schedule worked out yet. So far I am trying to sleep as much as I can. I can tell the difference. I am more calm and thus able to be more kind to myself and not worked up about being “productive”. So, thank you!
I really enjoyed your video. To answer your question, no I am not a minimalist. But I believe I am beginning the journey toward minimalism. As you described yourself, I am also a worrier, feel I'm wound a little tightly, tend toward anxiety, and over the last 10-12 months have begun to actively be troubled by the "weight" of my possessions. I have begun decluttering my home, and while I have a long way to go to reach a point of comfort and ease, it feels good to know I've begun the journey. The points you've made in this video resonate with me and I am happily anticipating enjoying some of those benefits. Thank you for your video - I will likely rewatch it several times!
I really enjoy your videos. They are very peaceful and informative, and feel very genuine. My biggest struggle with minimalism is actually the fact that my husband and I have very opposite views on this topic, and he is very emotionally attached to his hundreds of books and knick knacks. We are working together to find a balance that pleases us both, though!
I generally describe myself as an "aspiring minimalist"- I actually have a "fantasy self" that owns practically nothing, feels incredibly free, travels a lot (since for me, too much physical possessions gets in the way of living a more mobile lifestyle)... ironic since we usually use the term "fantasy self" to discuss material objects we aren't letting go of. For me it's almost the other way around. I still have a lot more stuff than I need but I'm slowly getting there :)
Living out of a backpack is what everybody does on vacation, so you can do it for 2-4 weeks for a time even if you don't do it long-term. Vacationers look on it as something just for the situation, but you can look on it as, "How would I feel about having this many things for a longer period of time?" The answers may lead to reducing your amount of clothing or books or furniture or whatever, or how big a house/apartment you need. Or finding that some kinds of things are more important to you than other kinds of things.
I'd say that where I'm at now with minimalism as a lifestyle is that I don't feel a need to live by any self-imposed rules, and it's okay for me to take it on with a more moderate approach. I'm sure that in the next couple years or so, I'll start evaluating again what minimalism means to me because life isn't stagnant and as we change, so do our priorities. In saying that, what I'm focusing on currently is my relationships and if they're still serving me or not, and this is a tough one for me as I can be a bit naive still in the way I think. Thank you for creating this very insightful video, Vera!
What a wonderful video that really captures so much of the true value of minimalism. Makes me smile with contentment just watching it. I can relate to all of the points you made and also to your enjoyment of the book 'Goodbye Things' which I found to be very inspirational and helpful. I most certainly do consider myself to be a minimalist and am incredibly grateful to have discovered it. Indeed in some ways it has been a lifesaver for me as since the start of the pandemic I've had to spend 99% of my time at home and whilst obviously this is difficult in many ways, thanks to minimalism my home is at least a calm, simple space to be in and not a source of stress and distraction as it was before I discovered minimalism. I really liked the way you described minimalism as 'what do we want more of through less', perfectly said! The images you chose for this video were beautiful by the way, such an enjoyable watch.
I like things to be tidy and everything in its place, so if I need a certain kitchen utensil or I want to put on hand cream for eg, then I know exactly where it is kept. It definitely keeps the stress levels down as well, which is another bonus :)
Vera I love your happy positive and charming videos. You express yourself so well, it is incredible to think that English is not your first language. You are an amazing person. X
Really great tips and perspective. This is my second major round of "essentializing" my possessions in the last 4 years as I'm heading into a cross-state move (and into a much smaller house). The last time I let go of so much stuff, it felt AMAZING - literally life-changing - so at least I know from direct experience how good it feels. Still, it is TOUGH. Man, every little tiny item, from pushpins to pencils, has some straggling emotional attachment. The faster I take action, the less I overthink, and the more willing I am to let go, the better I feel. Thanks for the ideas and reminders.. gonna keep going. Big yard sale happening tomorrow :)
Just a couple of months ago I decided to get rid of a lot of stuff. Oh my what a lot of things I collected in the last 25 years as a shopaholic. Up to now there are 3 rooms fully cleared out of things I never use and I already got rid of more than a thousand books too, but there is still a lot to go through. Indeed is everything in my house calling me to do something with it. I still have loads of books left that I don’t want to part with and also a lot of craft material that I also want to keep. I just love reading and crafting so I think it is something I should keep, but I also didn’t buy anything new during these last couple of months. So I don’t think I’m a minimalist, but I try to be as minimalistic as possible for me. At least I’m not a shopaholic anymore 😅.
I used to think I was a minimalist, eventually realizing I can live out of a backpack or equally, live in a fairly empty space, having what I can use when I find it useful. So it’s not minimalism for me, it’s external stressors in opposition to what is useful for how I am living at that time. Hi Vera! 🙏🧘🏾
I would describe myself as an intentionalist. I am careful what I bring in the house. I love to declutter/purge. If I lived by myself I would get rid of more than half the items in our house. Then I would consider myself a minimalist/intentionalist.
I'm definitely not a minimalist, but I notice I have a minimalist mindset in some areas in my life and the number of those areas grows over time. I am conscious about what I buy by asking myself the question: "Do I really need it?", I don't own a lot of duplicates or unnecessary stuff and everything must have it's own place in my apartment. However, I have several hobbies that result in me having a lot of stuff I can't get rid of for now. You might say I'm inspired by minimalism, but change is slow but steady in my case
Great insights. I’m on the path and taking it slow through sentimental items and family memorabilia. I’ve been steadily working on this for a couple of years and I can now start to see the deeper task of making decisions about refocusing energy and time. I’m also starting on the path to monitoring my online use as well as intake of entertainment.
Got a crazy story to tell you. I had a flood in my apartment, I lost almost all my stuff…PlayStation, books, movies, etc…I have like nothing left except my tv and my switch. It’s been two weeks now and I actually feel free. I missed my stuff for the first week or so but I’ve been so much more productive and I feel like I don’t have distractions anymore. I’ve been meditating every night, reading, working on my car, etc…I think it was a blessing in disguise. We’re so over stimulated with bullshit all the time that we can’t get anything done. We can’t even reach the stage where we even know WHAT we’re supposed to get done. Strangely enough, my confidence is also higher, I’ve been talking to more women and even getting hit on. This minimalism stuff is almost too good to be true. Life is simpler now.
Hi Vera, isn’t Living intentionally amazing, it is 5 years for me, I don’t think people realize how we don’t have to keep everything we accumulate, that letting go of things we don’t use is OK… I have never been more happy with what I have until I decluttered and started to live this way My home is calming, and one does feel more peaceful and content ❤
Absolutely agree about beauty products, I just use jojoba oil for everything now and it’s great. Will you be doing a bullet journal video or are you still using the one you have ?😀
Hi Lynby! I don't think I'll do a bujo video this year. :) I'm still using the same setup, after minimizing all the extras, this is what I have left hahaha. I'm also using it less frequently nowadays, for some reason. But if I do use it, I use the exact same setup as the one in my last bujo video :)
I am a minimalist. I'm not an extreme minimalist. I have everything I need but not a lot of excess. Having less inventory to manage in all facets of my life helps lower my stress.
I’ve come to sort of resent the fact that “things” have driven me in the past to become someone I am not in order to afford them. Meaning the status quo is a real thing that drives us into the rat race of earning more & more money to buy more & more things. Now I am determined to become free from all of that mentality & lifestyle. I’m gradually decluttering to become a minimalist for the sake of starting over with the career I am meant to have instead of a big money chasing hustle ever again. Then if my true calling leads to money then I will see what I feel like it affords but even so I never intend to go back to buying a bunch of things that turn to junk & clutter just to have them. Decluttering is definitely making me repulsed at the amount of clutter & mid line junk I’ve had & so I now know what I buy or make or have in the future will be of high quality over lower quality mass quantity materials. No “thing” is worth having to chase money to get it.
I would say I’m a minimalist, I never really called myself that but I never liked clutter or anything around my home that I didn’t use. I also am very tidy because I can’t function with chaos around me. It’s funny because if I have too many clothes I truly get very confused about what to wear and what matches what 🫤 I do much better with less and life becomes much simpler. I agree with what you said about being more confident because I know what I want and what I don’t want. You made some Great points here Vera 👍
I definitely have started my journey as a minimalist It started when I got married 3 years ago my husband had multiple of everything and when I moved in I had my own. The house was over taken by "stuff" everywhere. I also have extreme anxiety. Minimalism has calmed me down from yelling at everyone to clean up thier mess. I do 5 min Clean ups throughout the day and evening it is life changing. BUT the creep of stuff coming back into the house is my issue.
BUT the creep of stuff coming back into the house.....Every time I do my ´´Get rid of stuff journey´´ my people think, I don´t have enough ;). And they want to gift me with their unwanted items. I found a really good word for it: NO.
I'd say minimalism is an attitude, a way of looking at things more than how much stuff you actually keep or decluitter. And there are several kinds of minimalism, some of which contradict each other. The part that resonates most to me is 5:44 "I have the luxury of living below my means". I've never been interested in driving, I've long admired people who can fit all their posessions in a Volkswagen or a few pickup truck loads, I appreciate those who can live out of a backpack although it's not for me, I find many adequate things in thrift shops, and I value a few quality ingredients in my food. So that gave me money to travel in my 20s and 30s, and to save for the future.I'm grateful for that. And grateful that I don't feel the need to have a car or boat or 30" TV or fast fashion. I can just coast somewhat, and I have everything I want, and still save a lot of my income. The biggest luxury I buy is high-quality food ingredients; that's really all I want.
Heart of Kentucky. SIMPLE HAPPY ZEN. Hi beautiful VERA in the NETHERLANDS. Always good to see your new videos. I see on the internet, the problems you all are having, just like the USA, and around the world. We can be thankful we have peace in our small corner. Hope we all have a blessed day. We love you. Katie.
Thank you Katie, and you're right, I think it's very important to be thankful of having peace and safety. Hope you're alll doing well, wishing you a happy Monday!
Thank you Vera for another amazing insightful video. I love that book 'Goodbye things' and often re read it. My journey is still ongoing but I definitely feel a calmer shift in me with every step I take towards my ultimate goal. Xxx
My intention was to become a minimalist, however it wasn't realistic at this stage in my life. During the pandemic I removed a lot of items from my home and instantly felt so relieved. I am happier and more at peace with less. My current label for myself is a Simplist. I am living a simple, somewhat minimalist lifestyle. Someday I will be a minimalist.
Great video! Found a rescue animal organization and gave them 90 percent of my belongings to sell. If you have trouble letting go find an organization that needs it and can sell and help a cause. Put your items towards helping our world in some way. Feels really good! Been about 3 years living a minimalist life. Love it, but still a worrier. 😰
Wow that's amazing Julie! And about worrying, it can be tricky :) Maybe I'll make a video about it someday, if I can organize my thoughts about it haha
I’m a minimalist. I believe I come from the opposite end of how usually people get to minimalism. I struggle being a very cheap person. If there is a less expensive option I want to get that one even if I know it’ll malfunction. Don’t go out because it’ll cost more money than I’m willing to spend, skip meals, etc. This weekend I visited a friend and was a little more expensive than anticipated, however my thought was “this is the whole point of minimalism, reduce things you don’t need or value so you CAN spend on things that you do value”
I have been doing first minimal mom and that was a success i had home minimalist now i have to do it again but i am doing it again next February.i felt really good but it sid bring me as much change as i wanted to.now i try not to wreck myself during this holiday season and be ninimalish.
I've drawn more inspiration and motivation from watching your videos. Minimalism has to many that aren't viable for regular people like me. But your approach is relatable and really help. I thrive on simplicity and don't scream I'm a Minimalist or anything but when I can simplify an area of my life and as you say make my daily life easier ect I feel very calmed and satisfied
Hi Vera - No I wouldn't call myself a minimalist but I do love organization. In saying that though I do go through my items every few months to see what I'm ready to let go of and hardly buy things as I have most things I need. I am also trying to be more resourceful using what I have or repurposing items.
Hi Vera thank you thank you ❤️ so helpful to see your journey here? I definitely like things tidy and find visual clutter very stressful! I am bordering on minimalism but not quite there yet? it isn’t my main priority but I definitely feel happier and less stressed with fewer items now 🤗 a work in progress and enjoying the journey with you 😄
Its good to see that ur back ❤❤ I feel that if i accumulate more for myself, i feel that theres more that is lacking, compared to sharing ur blessings to others.
I consider myself somewhat minimalist, but I’m currently in process of packing & moving and that says otherwise. I’ve set a goal to minimize to one backpack and 5 boxes for clothes & possessions. Relatively I don’t have lot of things but it’s too much for me, if I can’t pack & move everything in one day then I have too much
It's inherent, but another thing I find that minimalism helps with is an enjoyment of better quality, or perhaps better utilisation of resources to attain a higher standard of living.
I am no minimalist, though I am very picky and minimalish if it comes to certain items like shoes for example, jewelry, decoration stuff. I don't want to be a minimalist either, but I want a tidier, less cluttered home. I have experienced over the last ten years now that it severely depends on time and energy I have for decluttering and tidying up. The more time and energy I can invest, the tidyer and cleaner it is. Right now I am in a very hard phase of my life, there is only minimalist time and energy for the cleaning and decluttering process and I can only achieve the least things to have a kind of adequate home for my family. The only method to keep up like this is the 15min method, once or twice a day, for this or that room or area of the house. I accepted for my self that I do what I can and the rest stays the same until tomorrow or the day after or the day after... I had to take away all of the pressure because the stress I made myself was totally toxic to my health. I find the decision making so so hard. All the decisions drive me crazy if I don't have enough energy left for the decluttering process. Right now, in these days, I have somewhat more of the energy to work in our home and some time left to work on areas that needed help for many months or years. I hope this phase continues for me.
Wow, that was really insightful and helpful for everybody, even those who aren’t minimalist - like me :). Thank you for sharing the concept of the silent to do list with us, sooo true! I’ve never thought of that!
Part of my minimalist journey is learning about “barefoot shoes”. Shoes that are good for our feet and good for our bodies. I feel like you may have an interest in this too since it is natural. If you are interested Kate Bowman is a great start to learn about keeping our feet and body healthy. I follow a barefoot shoe person on IG. She has taught me a lot too. Wanted to share, as it is an interesting and healthy topic.
Great video. I especially love the segment on being grateful for what you do have. That is super important! I am definitely a wanna-be minimalist. I’m someone who loves and needs a clean space and crave organization. Having said that I have a ways to go still I believe to call myself a true minimalist. Still need to declutter about 30% more of my possessions. I’m getting there.
Completely agree with that :) No need to hold yourself back, if you feel that those things would make you happy in the moment :)
Hahaha yes I can relate
I am pretty hardcore minimal….I don’t have things around that I don’t use nearly every day. I keep all my surfaces clear of all clutter. My clothing is of a similar colour so easily interchanged, and I don’t follow trends. This has helped me not only save money but live mostly anxiety free, as to me clutter exacerbates feelings of stress. I 💖 minimalism.
Wonderful that it's working out for you like that! :)
@@SimpleHappyZen Thanks… I love your advice re minimalist living..💜
I find that being content with what we have rather than what we don't have is an effective way to resist accumulating unnecessarily things or stress. Being content doesn't mean giving up on self-improvement, but rather having a state of mind of calm thankfulness while striving to be a better person. Maybe that's why a lot of journaling guides include a section on gratitude. 🤔
Love what you said!
Hahaha carrying a designed handbag and using a flip phone :) That's a funny image. Glad to hear these changes are working for you!! :)
That's awesome! I want to get a flip phone too!
Brilliant! I want a flip phone too!
@@Nancy-md7qr definitely give it a try!

“ I have my daily needs met ! “
👏👏👏👏👏
👌👌👌👌👌
You’ve done it again !
Thank you !
I am “ minimalish “ and I like tidying up and everything in its place.
Aw thank you Teresa 🤗💕🍵 have a happy Monday!
I loved how you said minimalism should not just be about less but more of what we love through less. That’s how I describe minimalism as well 🥰
Happy that resonated with you Victoria! :)
Sounds very sensible! :)
AS an heir to someone else: thank you😃
Hi Vera...you inspires ✨️ me...
Getting better in my minimalist life
Before I'm minimalist
Every space I want to put stuff
Now I found your channel..
For some reason, until now, I never associated it with owning less!😊
I accept myself the way I am and have less fears!🙌
That's awesome! Such a nice feeling, isn't it :)
I definitely see myself as a minimalist. It's helping me see the void I have before trying to fill it with stuff.
I do good with being more minimal for a few months, and then I am right back to my ways of wanting.. I want to break the cycle. These videos help ground me back to why I’ve started the minimalist journey. Thank you Vera! ❤️
You're very welcome Laura, try not to be too hard on yourself :)
Seriously.
Well said Nikki, loved it!!
Couldn't agree more. You have to be so vigilant about what you are "consuming" online. Yes - be mindful!
Absolutely a minimalist (however, it took finding information to understand it)...and I've always been an immaculate neat freak. It brings me peace and calm. And thanks for sharing your tips. I honestly see how minimalism positively affects your life.
Thanks so much for sharing, happy to see that minimalism is helpful for you too
I am having a huge clear out at the moment as I want more space which I believe will create a fresh flow of energy in my home and more space for dreams to grow! ☺️
Awesome! Wishing you all the best with that
Thank you so much for your lovely calm videos! I call myself a minimalist, gave decluttered so much over the last year moving from a large house to a much smaller apartment. I feel so much pleasure in owning less, and yes it has had a positive effect on my mind. I love my peaceful home. 🥰
So wonderful!! :)
I think minimalism has also helped my whole life, I don't stress as much about "things", but try to have fun instead. Cheers Vera xx
That's wonderful!! Happy to hear it :)
I am definitely on a journey still because everyday I look at my stuff and feel so overwhelmed. I let go of many things last year and I'm feeling ready to do another round 😊
Wishing you all the best with your decluttering goals!
Hey Vera… you look beautiful 🥰. Love your natural hair colour. It suits you so well. Thanks for your videos dear. It’s helping so many people. People need to learn more about minimalism and simple living these days. Keep up your good work 👍🏻🤗
Aw thank you so much for your sweet comment! Have a wonderful weekend
@@SimpleHappyZen you too 🤗
I love that you address the mental health benefits of minimalism and would love to hear more about this, like "minimalism of the mind"!
Thanks Kiki!! :) I'll add it to my ideas list
I agree! It is mostly, I think, for your mind you want minimalism. The mental health part is what most people do not talk about but is exactly what minimalism is about! Not what you have or not have, how many or whatever. It is about you feeling great about your life, your space and what you fill it with! ❤️
I agree with you on all 5 ways. I find that having less stuff there is less stress to worry about that stuff. I enjoy your videos so much. Thanks😊
Exactly! :) Thanks Jeni Lynn, have a great day!
Thanks Vera, great video! I agree about how the visual clutter adds to your to do list and the role of companies making you feel that what you are is not enough!
Thanks so much! Happy those points resonated with you
I loved what you said about consumption chaos, that's how I feel about social media too. I would consider myself tidy but not a minimalist. I have a lot of hobbies like collecting anime plushies and that kind of thing, which makes it hard to go minimalist. Great video, thanks! XOXO
Happy you liked the video and that the part about social media resonated with you! Have a great day
@@SimpleHappyZen Thanks you too ^_^
I do not consider myself a minimalist. 🧐😉
Thank you Vera for being forthright and honest in your videos. I always enjoy watching!
☺️🙌
Thanks so much for sharing Dawn, happy you enjoyed the video! :) Wishing you good luck with deciding what to do with your journals :)
Sounds very sensible! :)
I'm moving in the right direction now and would say I'm more "minimal-ish." Your videos help keep my momentum going and include other aspects of minimalism to my life too, so thanks!
Awesome, happy to hear it! :)
Aw thank you Karen 🤗💕🍵 That's so nice
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, loved reading your comment :) If you ever have a decluttering question, I'd love to see if I can help you out!
Wonderful! :)
You're so naturally beautiful, Vera, and I'm so glad you know it now. I've been there as well, in some ways, embracing myself for who I am nowadays, and this has led to more confidence ... it's a journey and minimalism has definitely been a big part of it. ❤🙏💕
🤗💕🤗💕
I'm still working on it. There have been times where I have found myself going back to old habits and end up beating myself up about the clutter and chaos in my life. Your videos are really an inspiration, they are helping me get back on track.
Thanks for sharing Samantha! No need to beat yourself up :) It's all about learning from our experiences and take those lessons with us going forward
I’m striving to want less, but it’s so hard! I always want more! I’ve been listening to your videos to try to help. 🤞
Hi Vera I would have to say I'm a minimal-ish but still working on my decluttering journey of 5 years. Thanks for the video ❤
You're very welcome Cathy Lynn, wishing you the best with your decluttering goals!
That's absolutely wonderful!! Sending a high five your way
Remind me what the word is for doing nothing. Thanks 🙂

Wonderful that you're working together on finding a balance that works for you both :)
It has helped tremendously, truly!!! For me it has been great. I am minimalish. Gave away about 90% of my possessions. Thank you for ideas.
Wow, wonderful that it's been helpful for you too like that!
Absolutely love what you shared Amy, couldn't agree more!!
Love to see that minimalism has brought you so much as well :) Thanks Chris, have a happy Monday!
I like things to be tidy and everything in its place, so if I need a certain kitchen utensil or I want to put on hand cream for eg, then I know exactly where it is kept. It definitely keeps the stress levels down as well, which is another bonus :)
Yes, so nice if you can immediately find everything! :)
I’m mindful. I like a place for everything and everything in its place. I tend to save ‘stuff’ for art projects
Sounds nice :)
That's wonderful Carlien!! Wishing you all the best with the rest of your decluttering :)
I used to think I was a minimalist, eventually realizing I can live out of a backpack or equally, live in a fairly empty space, having what I can use when I find it useful. So it’s not minimalism for me, it’s external stressors in opposition to what is useful for how I am living at that time. Hi Vera! 🙏🧘🏾
That's a good way of looking at it :) Have a happy Monday Robert!!
You become unstoppable when you realize you can do it all on your own.
'Inspired by minimalism', I love that!
Great insights. I’m on the path and taking it slow through sentimental items and family memorabilia. I’ve been steadily working on this for a couple of years and I can now start to see the deeper task of making decisions about refocusing energy and time. I’m
also starting on the path to monitoring my online use as well as intake of entertainment.
That's wonderful Diane, wishing you all the best with your goals!
Hi Vera, isn’t Living intentionally amazing, it is 5 years for me, I don’t think people realize how we don’t have to keep everything we accumulate, that letting go of things we don’t use is OK…
I have never been more happy with what I have until I decluttered and started to live this way
My home is calming, and one does feel more peaceful and content ❤
So wonderful!! yay!
Sounds great! :) Thanks for sharing Candace
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts Crystal, very interesting!
I like things to be tidy just have what I need declutter regularly and downsize for a comfortable free life love your videos Vera 💜
That's wonderful, thanks Deborah! Have a happy Monday!
Wonderful! Thanks Joan, have a happy Monday!
Love that!
Thank you! I have been a minimalist to varying degrees for 12 years. I found this vid to be very helpful and informative. Love your channel!

I completely relate to being calm around others but finding it hard to relax. I definitely feel stressed and overwhelmed easily.
Ah yes, I think it's possible to be both a laid back person, as well as a tense person haha
Great idea too for letting go of sentimental items. I am a huge, huge animal lover and I should do more of that!
That's so wonderful. Animal rescues are my passion. 🐾 😺 🐶 🐕 💕
That sounds really great! :)
Hi Vera thank you thank you ❤️ so helpful to see your journey here? I definitely like things tidy and find visual clutter very stressful!
I am bordering on minimalism but not quite there yet? it isn’t my main priority but I definitely feel happier and less stressed with fewer items now 🤗 a work in progress and enjoying the journey with you 😄
Its good to see that ur back ❤❤
I feel that if i accumulate more for myself, i feel that theres more that is lacking, compared to sharing ur blessings to others.
My goal is minimalism for sure..I'm on it🙂 thanks for the book advise and the great video 🌼
Wonderful! :) Wishing you all the best with your goals
Decluttering all the unnecessary has made me feel so much calmer, not having a load of stuff to worry about is a blessing ❤ love your content ❤lol 😍💖
So happy to hear it's working out for you! :)
I always watch your videos!!! I'm minimalist and I learning english. You speak so clearful amd slowly. I love it. Thanks for everything :)
Wonderful, thank you so much!
I need more of that peace and stillness. Love how your videos are little relaxing check ins.
Happy to hear that you enjoy my videos like that :) Thank you!
The silent to do list. Wow. Spot on 😲❤️
I consider myself somewhat minimalist, but I’m currently in process of packing & moving and that says otherwise. I’ve set a goal to minimize to one backpack and 5 boxes for clothes & possessions. Relatively I don’t have lot of things but it’s too much for me, if I can’t pack & move everything in one day then I have too much
Good luck with the move!
Thank you for your inspiring videos. I am enjoying them more than you could ever know ❤
Aw thank you Linda 💕🤗
I like the term minimal-ish also but I do love orderly and neat spaces so I guess that’s what applies to me - as usual I really enjoyed this content!
I constantly buy clothes and makeup cause I’m insecure and my friends are so stylish and always gttting new clothes. I have reduced it a lot. Thanks ❤
You look so vibrant in red.❤️
I thought same thing! So pretty!💝
Aw thank you both 🤗💕
Wow, that was really insightful and helpful for everybody, even those who aren’t minimalist - like me :). Thank you for sharing the concept of the silent to do list with us, sooo true! I’ve never thought of that!
Vera, I think this is one of your best videos! So inspiring 😍
Wow thank you so much! 🤗❤
thanks for your videos! I listen to your videos on repeat while I putter around the house.
Aw that's so nice! :) Have an awesome day!
Thanks so much for sharing Audrey!
What a kind beautiful woman. Thank you for the tips you give. I find them extremely helpful.
Very refreshing, as always. Thank you, Vera.
Thanks so much :)
Thanks for sharing and wishing you all the best with your goals!
