If only Christian history classes were like this... If I may still pick on a couple of things tho... 12. St. John the Evangelist actually lived pretty long, he was the only original apostle who died peacefully of natural causes at the end of the 1st century. He wrote the Gospel (according to John) at the end his life, and the account that he dictated it to either St. Irenaeus or St. Polycarp placed it to an even later date. The person you were thinking about is probably Mark the Evangelist, whose Hebrew name is also John. John Mark (Yochanan Markos) was ministering in Alexandria when a mob of Egyptians tied his neck to either a chariot or a wild horse for two days. 63. The Catholic church by definition cannot be a member of the WCC. Because it's in its name, "Catholic" means universal. You can find in several Christian creeds in their original Latin text this sentence: sanctam ecclessiam catolicam (holy universal church). That means cannot be a member of such organization until they recognize that they are no longer the ecclesia catolica. 73. Perhaps the misconception should've been cleared that the 33,000+ number is tied to fact number 30. A denomination is what we call an organization of a network of churches. Many of these denominations are regional based (Orthodox churches), or different in church governance (Presbyterian, Congregational, Episcopal), or they're simply individual churches unaffiliated to any organizations, counting them as single organizations. If you count major branches (and deviations), I can't think of more than 20 from the top of my head. For example, you have the 3 largest Pentecostal denominations: Foursquare Church, Assemblies of God, and the Church of God in Christ. There isn't really any difference in theologies, they're just different organizations. some more fun facts: - Old Testament is also called the Tanakh in Jewish custom. forgot to mention that? - The Islamic Prophet Muhammad's uncle-in-law (Khadija bint Khuwaylid's uncle) was probably a Nestorian, as Nestorianism was pretty popular in Arabian Peninsula that time. - The first English Bible that came with the Puritans was the Geneva Bible, a product of British Protestants fleeing from Bloody Mary. Not only that it was the first English Bible fully equipped with chapter and verse divisions, it also contained a short summary of each chapter and even commentaries at the bottom of the pages. King James sponsored his own translation because of Geneva Bible's commentaries, he found it to be too Calvinistic.

The holy trinity is best understood as separate entities being one and the same substance; the father (literal father, ancestor or creator), the son (creation, child) and the holy spirit (universal consciousnes).
@@latinmoses8417 if you define God, as the substance, that is, the Universe, then maybe. Most definitions are God as creator (as in mother/father/parent of the world). Just as humans "create" children, God created the Universe, but God is made from the same substance of the Universe. Also, we are made from the same substance, and the same substance as our ancestor going back to the beginning of time, and before time existed. Hence, made in the image of. I have no problem with the idea of God as the Universe or God as the unknown unknown.

3:08 Minor Correction: This is my biggest pet peeve and the ultimate debunker of Stigmata in most cases in my eyes: The wounds of Crucifixion would simply have been impossible under the traditional description. The origin of "through the hands" is due to the fact that the upper wrist was considered a part of the hand. The real crucifixion spot would have been thought the center of the wrist, as shown in the Shroud of Turin.

Actually Galileo was tried for his teachings, not because it contradicted the bible, but at that time, he did not have the imperical evidence to support his theory. In fact the Catholic Church (unlike some fundamentalist protestant movements) recognizes that some of the events stated in the bible must not be taken literally, even St. Bellarmine, a Catholic Jesuit Cardinal stated that if a scientific find was proven tp be true that contradicted the bible, the Church must reconsider Her interpretation of certain texts.
And I know that religious people just love to say fish is in a meat. That just totally explains Christianity in one little example. That they make up lies so that they can get around with the Bible has to say. It's beyond pathetic
John 1:1-1:3 In the Beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God same is in the Beginning all things were made by Him , and without Him nothing was made. To everyone who is wondering how He was around before the beginning it is because He is not subject to the Space-Time continuum
Another thing: Galileo wasn't forced to recant. The earliest form of this story is found in the late 1800s. The reason Catholics had a problem with Gallileo was because he was mocking the pope through cartoons. While I dont mind satire (as long as there's a hint of truth in their satire) the problem was that Galileo DIDNT have any truth in his cartoons, and was essentially slander
Discípilo de Christo Galileo was ordered to “... to abstain completely from teaching or defending this doctrine and opinion or from discussing it... to abandon completely... the opinion that the sun stands still at the center of the world and the earth moves, and henceforth not to hold, teach, or defend it in any way whatever, either orally or in writing.” That’s from the injunction against Galileo from 1616. In other words, he was forced to recant.

Wow this is actually really accurate! Great Job 101 Facts! Christians believe that God is perfect in every way. God is not needing or lacking nor is dependent upon anyone or anything. For example, we believe there is only 1 God, who is 3 in Persons, "Father, Son, Holy Spirit", 1 What, 3 Who's, 1 Essence/nature/being, 3 Persons. I try to make it simpler to understand, for example, the word "God", the word God is only 1 word, however the word God has 3 letters, not 1 letter and 3 letters, not 1 word and 3 words, but 1 word with 3 letters because I'm speaking in different senses when I say that God is 3 and 1. Perfect in unity for which God is Triunity and having for all eternity a perfect infinite living loving relationship within the 3 Person "Father, Son, Holy Spirit" because we believe God is Love and because God is love, God didn't need to create humanity to finally experience this thing called love, rather God is love "Triunity" and out of love God created us to have a living loving relationship with God, therefore God of the Bible does not lack nor needs or is dependent upon anyone else for relationship. Also, the God of the Bible is perfect in His Love and Justice towards humanity. God "the Son" came down from Heaven, who manifested into sinless human flesh who remained sinless even though He was tempted and tested in every way that we were, yet He did not sin. So again we have God "the Son" who is Spirit/Soul and then we have the flesh which was human in order for God to represent humanity, He came down and manifest in the flesh while still being Spirit since God is Spirit. Therefore Jesus Christ being sinless was able to be called the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, for being God "the Son" who is infinite in worth, could pay for any amount of debt of sin for humanity for any amount of humans "finite beings" so that God's justice would remain perfect and righteous having no sin go unpunished because all sin will be punished in the humans who do not believe that Jesus died for them and resurrected thereby defeating death and sin once and for all for in Christ it is finished, fulfilled, fully satisfied and paid in full or it will be punished in Christ for which it also reveals God's infinite love for us. For God demonstrated His own love for us, in that while we were still yet sinners, Christ died for us. The ultimate sacrifice of God for those who are made in His image "humanity" in Christ Jesus will be able to stand in the judgement of God having no sin in them, for we are saved by God's grace/love/mercy through faith in the Son Jesus Christ not of works lest anyone should boast, as if anyone could be good enough for God's eternal and everlasting Kingdom of Glory and Righteousness. I pray that you turn to Christ Jesus as your Lord God and Savior of the world so that you may stand in the judgement of God who is perfect in every way! God bless!

It is amazing that so many different doctrines have been adopted over the centuries, most NOT based on original Bible writings. Kathryn Deighan O'Donnell That’s only if you believe the radical, relatively modern idea that the entirety of the Gospel can be found in the Bible, and reject the clearly Biblical doctrine that the Spirit will lead us into all Truth. It's very difficult to regard anything at all about these apostles as "historical fact", largely because even in the earliest Christian sources, most of them are little more than names that get mentioned once or maybe twice and then they vanish from the story altogether. "Apostles" refers to anyone who was "sent out" to preach the "good news" - the word is from the Greek ἀπόστολος meaning "delegate, messenger". It can refer to later "messengers" about the preaching of Jesus who had never actually met him (such as Paul) or to a wider group of largely unnamed "apostles" such as the 70 sent out by Jesus, mentioned only in Luke 10:1-14. But I'll assume the question is actually asking about "the Twelve", who are said to be the closest followers of Jesus in his lifetime. The first historical problem is that the gospels can't agree on who these "Twelve" were. The earliest gospel, gMark, lists them in 3: 13-19 as: Simon, called Peter Andrew, Peter's brother James, son of Zebedee John, James' brother Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James, son of AlphaeusThaddaeus Simon, the Cananean Judas Iscariot Matthew 10:1-4 used gMark as its source and so gives the same list. But Luke 6:12-16 substitutes a Jude for Thaddaeus. gJohn doesn't give a full list but does refer to "the Twelve". Of the ones in gMark's list gJohn mentions five. But it also mentions a Jude, stressing that this was not Judas Iscariot. And a Nathaniel. The others aren't mentioned at all. Of course, the differences here may be that some of these people were referred to by several names. But already, in the sources of the first century, straight after Jesus' time, it's clear the stories are becoming blurred. Several of these figures - like Simon Peter, James, John and Matthew - are prominent in all the stories. Others - like Matthew, Thomas and even Judas - appear as individuals only once or twice. Most of the others are mentioned once and never heard about again. So what about the idea that all or even any of these people were executed for their beliefs? Here the evidence gets even more uncertain. Firstly, none of them are mentioned in any non-Christian literature at all, though given that the Jesus movement was at this stage a tiny sect of Jews, this is not actually too surprising. But of all the people in the gospel lists or mentions of "the Twelve", just one is described as having be executed in any of the first century Christian literature. James the son of Zebedee is said to have been executed by Herod Agrippa - Acts 12:2 says he was "killed with the sword", though does not say why. John 21:18-19 depicts Jesus predicting to Peter that "when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go" and then adds "He said this to indicate the kind of death by which [Peter] would glorify God", implying that the reading audience would be aware of this death, though not detailing it or its cause. Tertullian, writing over a century afterwards, records the tradition that Peter was crucified in Rome. The Acts of Peter - an apocryphal text also written in the later second century - records that he was crucified upside down. So only Acts 12:2 and John 21:18-19 give us anything like a clear reference in first century texts to any of "the Twelve" being executed. For the others, the stories are much later and begin to vary widely and take on clear signs of being at least partial legends. Most of these traditions actually come from the workOn the Twelve Apostles supposedly by Hippolytus (170-235 AD), but probably written even later by the “Pseudo-Hippolytus”. According to this work, Andrew, Bartholomew, Peter, and Philip were crucified, the last three upside down. James the son of Alpheus was stoned, James the son of Zebedee was killed with a sword (as per Acts 12:2), and Thomas was killed by spear. And John, Matthew, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James all died natural deaths. But the traditions varied. Eusebius, writing in the early fourth century, assured his readers that all of the Twelve died as martyrs except John - a tradition that Christians repeat uncritically to this day, despite it being contradicted by the tradition in "Hippolytus", which (confusingly) the same Christians often use as a source for the nature of these martyrdoms. But the early sources are even more contradictory than this. As well as the tradition that Bartholomew was crucified, there is another one that he was beaten and then drowned. A third says he was beaten and then beheaded. And a fourth says he was flayed and then either crucified or beheaded. Was Simon the Zealot sawn in half in Persia, crucified in Samaria or beheaded in Georgia? It depends on which source you read. Was Philip crucified upside down or hung up with hooks and tortured to death? Again, depends on which legend you choose. Was Matthew executed in Egypt or in Persia? Again, who knows. What needs to be remembered is that these stories arose in a period in which any and every figure in the New Testament traditions were accumulating stories of all kinds, most of them contradictory. So a figure like Joseph of Arimathea, who is mentioned just once in the gospels as the person who provided Jesus' tomb and who is never mentioned again, eventually took on a whole cycle of stories until eventually he was turned into Jesus' kindly uncle who was a rich merchant and who took Jesus as a child to tour Britain and to plant a magic tree at Glastonbury. They also arose during a period in which there was periodic persecution of the Christian movement by the Romans and in which many Christian leaders were arrested tortured and executed. So it makes sense that in a time when martyrdom took on a whole complex theology, martyr stories were invented for the Twelve original followers of Jesus. So is it a "historical fact" that Jesus' first twelve followers of Jesus were executed? The evidence is too patchy, too garbled, too contradictory and mainly too late to make anything like this case. First century sources refer to two of them being executed - Peter and James, son of Zebedee - but beyond that we can only speculate. Of course, the claim that they were executed is usually made as part of an argument for the truth of the claims modern Christians make about Jesus. This argument fails for three reasons: (i) we don't know enough about how these first followers died, (ii) we can't be sure that what they believed about Jesus was precisely what modern Christians believe and (iii) people die for mistaken ideas and erroneous beliefs all the time.

There isn't really any difference in theologies, they're just different organizations.
some more fun facts:
- Old Testament is also called the Tanakh in Jewish custom. forgot to mention that?
I stopped reading after you said there was proof with some guy from The Bible lived a very long life... That's a blatant lie and you know it. @@MothraBlues , keep telling yourself all of those tired old diatribes. Here is the reality of the three most common argument groups that I KNOW you are going to try to pull. (This includes the one you already tried...)
1. Anything to do with "Christ Myth Theory": actual bible scholars (many of whom are secular and/or atheists) have debunked and destroyed every scrap of "validation" of that. it is a bogus batch of hoopla that the most rank "theorists" and paranoids cling to because even historical fact and science doesn't validate their tantrums. No matter the age of any religion other than Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, all pantheism and "craft" religions are rip off hokum and what works is blatantly worshiping the same spiritual beings.. none of whom are good.
2. Christianity isn't about a human standard of good, justice, or fairness. We humans HAVE NO HIGH GROUND to impose our concept of "fair, right, or just" when we use any excuse to validate even the most minuscule acts of perversion, injustice, or abuse as "leveling the field". Identity politics, feminism, socialism, and idolatry in all its forms (including over devotion to certain institutions like the government, science, and education) doesn't at all explain, justify, nor correct anything.
3. Actually, validating someone who would bitch about grammar, when your own spelling and grammar make preschoolers look like Rhodes Scholars makes you look like the blithering brain cramp blatherskite you are.
That's not really a debunker seeing as no one knows whether it was the hands or wrists.
What an interesting and creative topic! Could you make a video like this about others religions like Islam, Judaism and Hinduism as well? As a Jewish man myself, I would be interested in seeing your take on Judaism and learning about other religions.

Re: saints, the trinity (most churches can't explain it because it's too sacred for us to understand!?), purgatory, etc. Thank you for saying that out of the over 33,000 Christian churches only ONE can be the true church. That means, using our free will, we can find the real true religion if we study the Bible with an open heart and mind. 👍❤🙏🙏
Kathryn Deighan O'Donnell That’s only if you believe the radical, relatively modern idea that the entirety of the Gospel can be found in the Bible, and reject the clearly Biblical doctrine that the Spirit will lead us into all Truth. God didn’t stop guiding us when the last word of Revelation was written. To claim that He did is clearly unBiblical.

Second, as a Christian, the only thing I think was off was the idea that only one denomination is correct. Some Christians might believe that but I think more believe that denominations are a style choice rather than a salvation choice. Most denominations are considered saved as long as they believe the basic core beliefs of christianity such as the trinity and the Bible is the word of God, etc. Everything else is just optional.
But pretty accurate report otherwise. I learned many things, thank you.

The earliest gospel, gMark, lists them in 3: 13-19 as:
Simon, called Peter
Andrew, Peter's brother
James, son of Zebedee
John, James' brother
Philip,
Bartholomew,
Thomas,
Matthew,
James, son of AlphaeusThaddaeus
Simon, the Cananean
Judas Iscariot
Matthew 10:1-4 used gMark as its source and so gives the same list.

~17:16 While there were of course lots of missionary efforts in Sub Saharan Africa during the colonial period, and most Sub Saharans had never been exposed to the religion before, it wasn't actually the first introduction to Christianity for some parts of the region; Ethiopia was actually one of the first Christian countries in the world, and is believed by some to have become Christian before Armenia.
