  • The artist formerlly known as Ron Artest finished fourth in the 1997 McDonald's All-American Slam Dunk Contest. Following two seasons at St. John's, Artest embarked on an eclectic 17-year NBA career highlighted by a Defensive Player of the Year award, an NBA championship, and one of the longest suspensions in NBA history for running into the crowd and attacking fans in 2004.
    Artest has changed his name on multiple occasions in his adult life, first to Metta World Peace, then The Panda's Friend, and most recently to Metta Saniford-Artest.
