  • June 6, 2004 - Elden Campbell's box score may be easy to overlook, but his contributions throughout the 2004 NBA Finals played a key role in an unlikely Detroit Pistons championship run. Campbell finished with 6 points, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in just 18 minutes of work during the Pistons' 97-85 Game 1 win. And while nobody was able to stop Shaquille O'Neal outright, Campbell-O'Neal's former teammate-was able to make him work for what he got, forcing three turnovers while bodying O'Neal out of position, leading to pass-aways or difficult hook attempts (which O'Neal still often made).
Despite the efforts of Cambell and Ben Wallace, O'Neal still finished with 34 points on 13-of-16 shooting in the loss.

Elden came back to haunt his old team, as did Lindsey. God I miss this team. I miss the Pistons actually playing meaningful games

Lindsey knew Kobe. Elden knew Shaq. Pistons took advantage.

Yes. Absolutely. Campbell frustrated Shaq. His contribution was really great. Every member of the Detroit team contributed and filled in the gaps perfectly. A great team, a great series.

I wouldn't label it a "great" series as it was much too one-sided. An exemplary display of team basketball by Detroit, certainly. A satisfying series.

@@bubufubu Yes. You are correct! It was a 5 game sweep! I think one of the commentators said "Even if they pay 10 more games, the flow of the games and results would be the same"!

@@மணி2047 That's a sharp memory. Al Michaels' line in Game 5, precisely, was, "The way this is going, these teams could play 10 more games and the Lakers might not win one. I mean, it's been *that* dominant."
The Pistons led by as many as 28 points that night.

Elden Campbell was underrated. Very fundamentally sound.

Elden Campbell was the only laker to improve his scoring first seven years in the league.

One of the greatest teams of all time.
I put it right up there with Russell's Celtics and Isiah's Pistons.

    How wrong was Doc Rivers?
He said the team with the 3 middle games was guaranteed to lose at least one of them .
For the record, the first road team to win the three middle road games was the 1990 Pistons.
The 2004 Pistons won the three middle home games, making them the first franchise in the 2-3-2 format to win both those middle games as a road and home team.

Elden always looked like he was out drinking the night before the game.

He was so good and that baseline pocket pass back to chauncey off the inbound was slick as hell. It looks like they're running the offense through him

Man our starters would rest and mike james hunter Corliss memo campbell would come in and go on a 10-2 run in 2 mins. If we kept that bench we go back to back in 05.

Shaquille O'Neal should have retired with the Lakers and they ran him out of town for an overrated Goodwill thrift store Jordan at best that was guilty of rape that karma caught up with a few years back
