I love this gritty dark-green rainy atmosphere. With bells and other machinery noises. Beta holds that type of feeling no game came to achieveing for me. That overall dystopian atmosphere is so unique. I love this.
My favorite part has got to be the wasteland. Imagine walking on a dried ocean? Going into crashed submarines, sunken ships, collapsed oil platforms, crossing trenchs kilometers deep, seening sunken trenchs with whats left of earths water, murky, toxic, and with god knows what lurking inside. Truly like the dystopian city, nothing else in gaming like it.
@@crylune I've seen you on multiple HL2 beta videos trashing on that novel whenever anybody brings it up. I guess overdosing on hot pink and manga does that to a person.
The beta concept art looks more like paintings to visualize a science fiction novel. It sometimes doesn't even look like it was ever meant to be a game!

Meh, I prefer the retail dystopia. Orwellian dystopian set in an American city is overdone, not to mention 1984 is a subpar novel at best
@GoTi4No Who hurt you?
@@crylune That is not even your own opinion. You just mindlessly copied someone's cold take

If Valve ever decided to
They should make a spin off game that is based on the beta that takes plays in another city where you play as Adrian Shepherd
pretty much one of the hl3 ideas except theres no shepard
I think it would be better for the player to be Barney
This Game was the literal definition of dystopia for me, i just can't explain with words
You might like a film called ‘Dark City’.
Jesus christ this game was going to be dark
@The Doge-Emperor of Dogekind indeed
Literally, I can’t see
protogen
Reminds me Dead space
half life 2 retail is considered a masterpiece, just imagine how big this game would have been, horror enthusiasts would still be sucking it off today
if George Orwell's 1984 would be real
What a garbage novel that is
@@crylune it's a cool one

@@creepermangaming7912 he's right though but hey I'm talking to a guy with a creeper pfp so I'm not surprised you act childish.
Fun fact: half life 2 beta was going to be a horror game.
i wouldnt really say a horror game, but it had dark tones.
They need to make it as a separate, non-canon game
I think everyone has already figured it out...
@@skinwalker69420 yeah for example, maybe in the retail the beta is canon but it's in a different city
@@skinwalker69420 The wasteland is still a canon location in-universe, as seen by the teleporting scene with Lamar escaping
Half-Life 2 Beta: you coulda had a bad bitch
This feels very Fallout 1 & 2 levels of dark, gritty, and apocalyptic. I hope I'm not the only one.
The beta concept art looks more like paintings to visualize a science fiction novel. It sometimes doesn't even look like it was ever meant to be a game!
That one sound effect of the girl screaming, I remember hearing that in so many old Gmod horror maps like Hell’s Resort.
This is a masterpiece, it’s a pity that it didn’t come out in this form, the game would have a great atmosphere
It didn't come out in this form for a reason, people weren't a fan and neither was Valve
@@cryluneYou have no source to proof it
The game still got a great atmosphere and is great in general :D

I like to get drunk and listen to this video on full volume with my eyes closed just to imagine I'm really there from time to time.
This is great! So ominous, I love it
Of course, I understand that the release version is better in terms of gameplay, but this is the atmosphere.
I dream of the half life 2 beta every night
I hope they make a remake of the Half-Life 2 beta someday
I don’t know if I’m mentally insane but this sounds kinda relaxing
I love it,it's so HL2 Beta
feels very matrix like, i want more
Perfect.
i wanna capture this dark and griddy feeling fr
Scary and very atmospheric
Ah, Gordon Freeman.
imagine how we would've grown up if the features from the hl2 beta stuck. we would be much different
Half Life 2 is the best fps game ever made.
Ye
i would take take the half life 2 bata over
half life 3 any time
if breen didn't make it.
Awesome
0:06 sounds like giorno theme
frr
kinda reminds me of postal 1
Anyone happen to know the sound origin of the radio chatter? Would love to use it in one of my friends projects
Anyone knows how to make custom soundscapes for Gmod? Need it for a map I’m working on.
whats that alarm ambience?
i found it in beta sound files but here's a link to it on yt ruclips.net/video/gp7_XgCZ0mY/видео.html
