The animation in this Super Mario World anime on VHS looks a lot better than the Super Mario World cartoon and faithful to the game, but why is the Princess' hair color still the same like the one in the cartoon because the game gave the Princess' hair color blonde.
One of those "weird Toei things", I guess, My best guess is that they didn't have the final SMW game and based Peach's look on the Famicom sprite ncarnations.
Benito Sierra The reason the American Super Mario World cartoon was like it is was due to the low budget thanks to NBC deciding to do away with Saturday Morning Cartoons when it aired.
Yoshi speaking actual words instead of saying his name is actually incredible, this should’ve been his main way of talking IMO. This really needs to be done more.
FUN FACT MK.II: The Voice Actor of Mario in this anime was Toru Furuya, who is also in charge of Amuro Ray's voice from Gundam Franchise. So no wonder why Mario can communicate through the Television...

So was Tōru Furuya like the designated Japanese voice of Mario? I’ve heard him in a bunch of stuff. I have to wonder why Japan didn’t make a full-fledged animated adaptation of Super Mario for television. Lol they picked so many well known VAs to voice these characters. Heck Chikao Ōtsuka (RIP) voiced Wario in a bunch of commercials and I think he fit quite nicely.
Toru Furuya was used in so much Mario material that he was more or less the official Mario voice in Japan up until the N64 era - and even after that, he still was Mario's voice in several Satellaview games. From what I can tell, BS Super Mario Collection's Soundlink audio is his last known reprisal of the voice.

Whoa, I've never seen this before. I thought that the American Cartoons and Japanese movie were all they've ever done when it comes to an animated Mario on the telly! The voices and animation are pretty solid, too!
Why wasn't THIS the cartoon we got? It's not only faithful, but has pretty good animation with little to no mistakes and repeated frames (For Anime standards). So many references to the game were included! It was honestly just an adorable and cute adventure from start to finish. Funnily enough, even the Clown Car battle's more climatic considering that Mario doesn't make any lazy puns & Bowser puts up quite a fight! It adds tension unlike the cartoon where he's easily dealt with in 10 seconds.
Edutainment might get its fair share of knocks, but this actually fulfilled its function by teaching some Japanese. I for one learnt that the Japanese word for ‘Tomato’ is ‘Tomato’.
I guess you might mean that these two have similar voices. If, however, if you were trying to say the two characters were acted by a same person, that’s torally wrong. The point of this VHS Anime, is that it was only educational... It used a kind of Phone to interact the answers or things that the movie is intended to show, as like a pre-school learning show (Dora the Explorer is an example)....
Ok, this is an insanely cute concept. I can imagine four year old me putting the phone to my ear and talking to Mario. Pity the concept died out before they could perfect the technology.
Surprisingly, I noticed how Luigi's words at the end are almost the same as the ones in The Super Mario Bros. This is probably the most wholesome and cutest educational show I'vs seen. By far, the best! Edit: I think I put in two comments. If you see it, please tell me.
The first time Bowser marrying Peach was a plot element, incidentally, was the theatrical Mario anime. It was also in an episode of Super Show, although it plays out differently in it because Koopa has absolutely no feelings for Princess Toadstool compared to other incarnations. It is also in the Super Mario Adventure comic, similarly to how it drives Bowser's motivations in the animes.
@@Number1Tailsfan It was definitely in Japanese theaters - that's how a film reel master was found, after all. VHS tapes masters, in comparison, are typically recorded on Betamax or another video-not-film format. (I.E. DiC's Nintendo cartoon stuff.) It's also not common for anime OVAs to be movie-feature length - in fact, I can't recall any that were outside of certain episodes of Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki, and even those were more the length of a Dragon Ball movie than the Mario one.
It's actually kinda peculiar, when I think about it. In theatrical anime Luigi called Mario "Aniki", but it seems "nii-san" stuck from this entry into the Satellaview games.
@@cabbusses That is sweeter! Aniki is used for more formal relationships, if Luigi calls Mario "nii-san" that is just a fact that they are really close ❤
Here's a fun fact: over the last few months, I've been creating a "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" PowerPoint that is based off of "Mario & Yoshi's Adventure Land". I did this because "Millionaire" is my favorite game show, and I thought, "What better way than to win virtual money as a reward for helping Mario and his friends?" Right now, it's not quite finished just yet, but it's technically playable.
As a kid I never understood this game's story outside of beating it and rescuing the princess. I always had questions on why they were there. Didn't even bother to read the manual. Fast forward to my 30th year of living, I'm watching it in Japanese; understanding it fully.
23:14 Why did they make Mario such a jerk here? He asks Luigi for help about a bomb that doesn't explode, then it explodes in Luigi's face and Mario and the rest just laughs at him instead of caring to see if he's well? I know in a cartoon bombs are not as bad as in real life, but still, that's not the best thing to show in a supposedly "educational" video. Then Luigi gets pissed at Mario for his laughing and Mario acts surprised?! Not only that, he says "who cares about Luigi anyway?". So much for an "educational" video which shows it's OK to laugh at a brother who has an accident (while he was just trying to help) and not care one bit about him.
In context, it's meant to set up for the scene where Mario is actually captured and realizes he needs Luigi's help, getting a bit of karmic backlash for how he mistreats Luigi. I would not exactly say it was the best way to execute it.
I totally agree. I've said this before: if I could change up the scene in which Luigi is laughed at, I would have Mario drop to his knees and cry his eyes out while Luigi runs away because he knew he messed up. However, we know he has to save Peach, so that's what he does later on. I also envisioned him emotionally apologizing to Luigi after Bowser is defeated.
FUN FACT: The voice of the red Yoshi was Ikue Otani, who would later go on to voice Pikachu in the Pokémon anime.
sayyestofairness That’s really cool!
Definitely hearing it. Sounds like Shota from Pokemon XY.
Crazy parallel fact: the green Yoshi was voiced by Chika Sakamoto, who went on to voice Agumon in the Digimon animes.
Ikue also voiced Dot Warner for the japanese dub of Animaniacs.
And isn't that girl voiced some psychopathic ghost too?

Edit: I think I put in two comments. If you see it, please tell me.
Put on English (United Kingdom) subtitles

A wedding eh? Where have I heard that one before?
Super paper Mario?
Pheonix Hazel this was before way before super Mario odyssey I doubt he even remembers this!!!!! (unless he speaks Japanese)
@@cabbusses I thought that "theatrical" anime was direct to video
@@Number1Tailsfan It was definitely in Japanese theaters - that's how a film reel master was found, after all. VHS tapes masters, in comparison, are typically recorded on Betamax or another video-not-film format. (I.E. DiC's Nintendo cartoon stuff.)
It's also not common for anime OVAs to be movie-feature length - in fact, I can't recall any that were outside of certain episodes of Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki, and even those were more the length of a Dragon Ball movie than the Mario one.
1:49 That's really nice. The Terebikko supports high frequency audio.

Yes
I can totally imagine a similar voice dubbing over Jack Black's voice in the movie.
It sad that the VA who did Bowser in this OVA passed away a while ago

Mario's VA also played Yamcha, Seiya and Sabo.
Luigi's VA was Lance from Voltron.
Yoshi = Agumon/Shoutmon :V

Yoshi's and Luigi's voices are so cute
I love Iggy's voice. He sounds like one of those tough anime guys.

Luigi calling Mario "nii-san" made me smile :'^)
It's actually kinda peculiar, when I think about it. In theatrical anime Luigi called Mario "Aniki", but it seems "nii-san" stuck from this entry into the Satellaview games.
@@cabbusses That is sweeter! Aniki is used for more formal relationships, if Luigi calls Mario "nii-san" that is just a fact that they are really close ❤
5:43 I'm used to the smb3 show/smw show voice for this character, this caught me so off guard.
Here's a fun fact: over the last few months, I've been creating a "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" PowerPoint that is based off of "Mario & Yoshi's Adventure Land". I did this because "Millionaire" is my favorite game show, and I thought, "What better way than to win virtual money as a reward for helping Mario and his friends?"
Right now, it's not quite finished just yet, but it's technically playable.
ルイージ優しいな…😭
Its been years since this video randomly came into my recommended...
Glad to know the joke subtitles are still real.
if I had something like this as a kid that let me think I was talking to mario I'd lose my mind
I know right?
This is like a Super Mario World version of Dora the Explorer.
However I would have loved this if I saw this as a kid.
As a kid I never understood this game's story outside of beating it and rescuing the princess. I always had questions on why they were there. Didn't even bother to read the manual. Fast forward to my 30th year of living, I'm watching it in Japanese; understanding it fully.
You never played the Game Boy Advance port of Super Mario World? They had a whole opening cutscene and everything.
レミーの声が想像以上に低かった
15:31 Luigi’s face of pure terror is hilarious to me
There is no fall damage, Luigi! This is not super Mario 64!
