The USA See n' Say hardly had any licensed material at all, while Japan had nearly something for nearly any IP a child cared about in the 1990's. I suspect Mattel just wanted to keep it as cheap as possible which is why we only got the Saymore stuff. Of course, it is also possible that DiC may have had an exclusivity deal with Western Mario animation. Who knows?
There should be a Amada Anime Series: Super Mario Bros. VHS Restoration like Super Mario Momotarō, Super Mario Issun-bōshi and Super Mario Shirayuki-hime.
Why are there cut-out corners in the upper and lower left? Was this actually a camcorder recording of the TV screen? I would have expected better from somebody who went through the effort to reverse telecine the video as well as other processes to improve the qualiity. I would have expected you to start with the best possible quality, which would be using a video-capture card to directly record the NTSC video signal to an AVI or MP4 file.
Kiddo captured this with more accuracy than you could imagine. But the original transfer from film that was done at the studio was overall bad. Hence it has less detail than other VHS with animation and the edge ringing is very noticeable. This was just done for a children game machine, though, and the story is not very good. The cut-out corners are also related to the original film transfer, but this is not the first time I see them, so they are not exclusive from this cheap production.

That's a fandub I'd rather forget existed, though.... on top of voice direction issues, it had bad sound mastering (every VA sounded like they were recorded in a different microphone with different audio quality), and the footage tampering was executed so sloppily.... There's also one BGM track in this tape that sounds like it is original/composed specifically for it, which would likely be lost in a fandub.
If the source(s) of the original song(s) can be tracked down (It's highly unlikely, but surprises have happened before), it could be possible to restore the rest of the BGM with just Super Mario World SPCs. As for voices... Anyone here heard my Mario? I think I can imitate a Charles Martinet pretty decently! Though you may not think that great for an anime voice... hmm... maybe I could do Red Yoshi in my best impersonation of Domon Kasshu from G Gundam.... .... Naaaaaah.
I'd like to make a few comments regarding the aircraft that took Mario and Luigi to Dinosaur Land. In my opinion, it looks like a hybrid between a DC-3 and a DC-7. The reason why is because the DC-3 had two propellers, featured a tail gear instead of a nose gear, and held up to 21 passengers. The DC-7, however, had four propellers, featured a nose gear in front, and held up to 95 passengers. Given the large amount of windows on either side of the aircraft, it's consistent with the maximum passenger load of the DC-7. And since Mario and Luigi took up only two of the seats, the aircraft was probably a charter plane. The other comment I wanted to make was about who was flying the aircraft. No one knows right now if there was a captain and first officer in the cockpit or an autopilot that controlled the entire flight. I would go with the first theory. Also, people were wondering, "How was the staircase moved to the exit door to allow Mario and Luigi to exit the plane?" Well, if there WERE two pilots involved, the captain would've gotten out of the plane and rolled that staircase by himself since the airport was desolate. The captain and first officer would've then flown the aircraft back to its first airport. Hope everything I explained made sense.

It may be worthwhile to note that the corners would likely be obscure by a CRT TV overscan, so they were likely overlooked in the transfer to VHS.
