I was curious about this when I saw it on the eShop. The gameplay seemed pretty solid and I do enjoy a good Metroidvania. But of course, I wanted to wait and see what reviewers said, especially when it came to performance. I'm glad to hear that it runs well for the most part and I can definitely put up with a couple points of slow down here and there. I think I'll pick this one up at some point. Thanks for the review.
I can say safely me personally I haven't experienced much slow down (running on regular switch), and it's definitely given me my need for something similar to Castlevania. Plus it's another game similar to 3,000th duel. What's not to love? ☺️
I enjoyed HunterX and found it to be a solid game overall. The combat was really fun to me and it reminded me of the game 3,000th Duel in some ways. It's nice that it is now available on the Switch, though I got the PC version right when it was released. However, I like the game enough to where I'd want to get a physical copy of it if one were ever released for the Switch version and I'd definitely recommend this one to metroidvania fans.
I was about to mention 3000th Duel. Everything from the map layout, the map icons, the skill tree, the textures on the models, the environment design, the text boxes etc.
Just beat the game and I loved it. It can be frustrating especially in the wolf fight but the boss battles really have that "just one more try" vibe. I probably won't start a second playthrough right now but maybe down the line I'll get back in. There's definitely a list of things that could have been improved (maybe they will via patch) but I got an enjoyable 23 hours out of this one.
ladies and gentlemen we have our tag line for our newest title: Hunter X. "you could do worse." ;) I hadn't heard of this one before. even though I have waaaaaay too many games in the back log I do want something new after I finish F.I.S.T.. the price is right and it looks good. thanks for the review.
I did get it. I figured I'd just fire it up quickly and go through the settings like usual and adjust things like music volume, brightness ( OLED ;) ) controller setup etc. I just began F.I.S.T. and it was a game I was eagerly anticipating for months. anyway, in typical fashion I figure I'll just get a feel for Hunter-X and kill a few baddies. well, maybe just till my first save point shows up. oh, just a few more points to unlock a skill? OK and that's it. now I've only been playing Hunter-X since. what's that? a game on my wish list is now available? Fallen Angel. alright, I'll just go through settings and.... see my issue? I need help.
After further progress in the game I regret to say it was a waste of money. 3000th duel difficulty curve was fair and really benefited you in exploration with not much grinding needed. This games difficulty curve hits so hard on the third boss it might as well be end game difficulty in 3000th duel and begs for you to grind your butt off just to get your stats to absurd levels. Example: third boss, I am level 40. 15vit, 15 Str, 7 mind and 7 act (easy mode) and I'm getting one or two shotted by him. 3000th duel I got half way through the game at level 40 on its stock normal setting. Devs, you made a cool spin off clone to 3000th duel but you really need to remember your difficulty curves. You put easy mode to take a break from absurdly hard games but this is FAR from easy.
This game could have rocked if the bosses were tuned properly. On easy the game itself is interesting but the 3rd or 4th boss (lost count) was just unbeatable. Spent 2 hours trying to kill it, but it would just dash over to me and basically stunlock me to death. I actually got worse as time went on, until my hand cramped. Thing is the previous bosses weren't that difficult. The difficulty just suddenly spiked through the roof. Hardest time I've had with a boss ever. And I've been gaming since the 1970s.
Nice review. I bought HunterX on Steam when it was released and it's the best side scroller games I've ever played. Loved exploring the environment, combat was fun and the soundtracks are just phenomenal. I love this game. ❤️
Should I play this or Little Noah first? I want to buy one but although they're both cheap I simply can't buy them both at the same time (and neither would I play them at the same time).
I'm interested, but I am getting pretty overwhelmed the corpse runs in a lot of these newer metroidvanias. I get it, soulsbornes are cool. But too many of these new sidescrollers are getting caught up in it. Hollow knight was a masterpiece, but IMO the corpse retrieval did not serve the game well. It forces the player to follow the same path when they die instead of exploring in a different direction.
Yeah, not feeling this one. Dare I say it, 3000th duel was a better game. Just want to let you know that this game has a difficulty setting unlike its predecessor, I started on easy and I'm getting one shotted and/or comboed. 3000th duel on its first playthrough was much more balanced in terms of rising challenge. This one even on easy I felt like I started NG+ already. Need to start taking a break from "Souls" difficulty style gaming. It's too repetitive.
This game get my attention because i noticed the design of it reminded me of 3000th duel. Thanks for the review glad it's turn so good i will pick it later
Thank you for remembering 3000th Duel! We are the developers of HunterX. Our previous work is 3000th Duel and HunterX is its spin-off. We changed the company name for operational reasons. We tried our best to improve things that were pointed out a lot in the user feedback which we got from our last piece of work. Genuinely hoping you'll enjoy HunterX too. Thanks!
Remind me of castlevania, the map also so similar to it.. Just hope castlevania make a game like this again instead hack and slash game like god of war 🙄
!!LOOK!?! *I will give ANY game A Chance. But, games like THIS these Days...need More...Umph. Salt And Sanctuary...my Gawd.,..do you KNOW how many Costumes...my...gawd....

Awesome that you played the PC version! Always a good thing when even more people get to experience the game now.
Same developer did 3000th Duel, though I think they rebranded their studio name, but it is the same devs.

This one is a really good Metroidvania game. The only bad thing I think is the TITLE - HUNTER X is so inconspicuous.
Good to hear you enjoyed the game!

@@orangepopcorn can I ask why you don't have HunterX in Argentina?
@@GlueGuy20 It was released in the same country as the previous one. We will review the addition of a country.

Excellent sequel for 3000 th duel 🙂
So glad you enjoyed!!
If you die does the game take you all the way back to the beginning? Sorry watched this at work with the volume on low.
No not at all! Pretty decent checkpoint and save system so you won't lose tons of progress. You do have to go and recapture your lost items though.
@@IDreamofIndieOk cool thanks for the reply!
Nah bro for me the price it's slef is a must buy.... fucking 15 dollars is something woth mentioning
