  • Special thanks to OGHUGO's Retro Modshop for making this thing and tricking it out for me. I've been holding off for a Lynx because I was waiting to grab one with VGA out but this thing blows anything I could've grabbed off eBay out of the water. I recommend checking out his 2 button controllers for use on most Atari consoles and computers, and highly recommend his modding and refurbishing services!

    Yayy! Congratulations. Lynx was my first Atari console in 1990. I moved on to a Lynx II in 1992 that I still use to this day. No mods other than a recap that I did.
    I recommend the Luch Soft homebrew Weltenschlachter. It has a very retro vector arcade feel and plays a lot like a Yar’s Revenge or Star Castle.
    btw- Don’t let those whipper snappers tease you in public for holding the handheld equivalent of the brick phone!

    I have had a Lynx since 1991 or 1992. My first Lynx II got fried when I plugged In an incompatible power adapter. Fortunately, Sears replaced it. That one died a decade and a half later. Either from being dropped a bunch or by plugging in the power adapter in to the headphone jack, which is a no-no. I then bought another Lynx II on eBay with a broken screen, had it modified with a McWill screen with VGA out, and some new internal components. That is my main unit. Somewhere along the way I bought a brand new Lynx I from Best Electronics that is my backup.

    Congratulations on adding the Lynx, and I look forward to your coverage. I got one (Bennvenn screen, recap) a few years ago to round out my Atari collection. I've only played it a couple of times though, so I'm looking forward to watching your videos.
    I'm also a believer in playing games on original hardware. I also have the various SD carts for all my consoles and prefer to use them for play. It's more convenient than swapping cartridges. However, as a collector, I still like to buy the actual games.
    I owned the Game Boy back in the day when the Lynx and Game Gear were released. I decided to stay with the GB because of size and better battery life. Rechargeables were not common back then and AA batteries were not cheap. And the color screens did not look good outside. Those things mattered to me more than the limitations of the GB (monochrome screen with no backlight). Besides, I was hooked on GB Tetris and Tennis.

    I love the Lynx! It's my favourite Atari system, although it's really more related to the Amiga than any Atari hardware. (It was designed by two Amiga engineers and the Amiga was the development platform for making Lynx games).

    I moded my Lynx with a NiMh battery circuit, replaced the capacitors and zenor diode. Replaced the speaker and the screen. It's pimped out, but no video output. Anyway that with the GameDrive and a few homebrew games and I'm all set.
    I would like to see Atari come out with some kind of modern Lynx. Something a little smaller and slimmer. Maybe a smaller d-pad would be nice for those Ms. Pac-Man like mazes. Maybe a switch-like setup with a doc for plugging into the TV.
    Anyway, enjoy the Lynx. I like Klax.

    Congrats on the Lynx! I purchased a broken Lynx I on EBay and made many of the same mods to get mine working (those mods were no joke to install either, lots of soldering). I probably should have gone with a pro like you did. Anyway, now that it works the Lynx is awesome! It’s the perfect portable retro gaming machine. As a fan of retro computer and arcade games, I love its library. Having a version of Robotron 2084 that you can play in a waiting room is mind blowing. Lol

I am blown away by it and throughly enjoy playing it. Part of me wants a updated screen for one of my Lynxs so bad but on the other hand I am more of a purist for such things. To play the system as it was meant to be enjoyed. I still have my model 1 from 90' but also bought a model 2 some years ago. I do have the sun shade wich has a bit of history behind it. Back during Desert Storm, Atari sent at least 100 Lynxs over to the troops. Atari soon got feed back about difficulty seeing the screen in the bright sun. Atari quickly designed and made the screen shade for it. It does help with the original screen making it easier to see. Just a bit of Atari history for you.

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  4 месяца назад

      Awesome tidbit about the sun shade. I think the screen actually becomes an issue where there is burn in, dead pixels, etc where replacement becomes necessary. As Hugo stated, these consoles are getting old and even if you do want to upgrade they might need service eventually.
      Thanks for watching
