Himeji Castle was built on top of a 46-meter hill by Hirayama Castle in the early Edo period (1603-1867), so there are no elevators, especially for visitors in wheelchairs. There are many railings on the keep and turrets, but the slopes and stairs are very steep and small. Therefore, unfortunately, wheelchair users cannot visit Himeji Castle alone. However, with two to three caregivers, it is even possible to visit the castle from the entrance and around the keep complex. (It is not safe for a single caregiver.)
