Prices in South African Rands and may differ in other countries
Absolutely beautiful design, the Berlin Chair / Cyberpunk Scooter.
is it just me or this is like listening to david attenborough but instead of wildlife with bikes?
Love it :)
I find it very disgusting nothing to love here nobody looked at the cost to human life these electric vehicles are causing just listen to The Propaganda and take it that we're doing a bit to save the Planet and to hell with those poor people in those third world countries unbelievable
Gold!
It has an industrial look and looks like something out of Westworld.
Consider putting up Euro and /or sterling prices for comparison the bike show will expand to vast audience . excellent review
This is genius from BMW and im not a bmw fan usually , having been a 1980s London despatch rider i can see a huge market for this in major cities for deliveries , love the box makes it so practical . Want one .
All other scooter have much more room then this one. My scooter have maybe twice the space, and look 100 times better. when you stop for going into a store. you have nowhere to put the helmet?
Look like it lost a 60 liter trunk from the back. It is not functional at all… And look dorky and stupid. Cud at lest be functional, but not even that.
@@Gismo3333 nowhere to put the helmet....I guess you didn't watch the video then....just comment like troll who not watch
Price might restrict it from being used as a delivery vehicle.
I'm a jewelry designer and I completely agree with you about the aesthetics. They could have done better but the engineering makes it all worth getting one of these if you have the money.
Love it, want it, will get it ...
Would have never imagined Simon Pegg's dad would be such an excellent reviewer
Who
🤣🤣🤣
Just what I was thinking. In fact, I thought it was Mr Pegg!
Nice Report, as a matter of fact I drove this thing for a week and I have some additions to your findings.
First of all I so totally agree with the downpoints you mentioned - for a very expensive toy the materials are crap and the optional case ? Boy oh boy, who ever designed this should be punished corporally every morning bevore breakfast - it even steals the second seat - unbarable.
I found the driving noise rather annoying and it's that cheap belt making a very high-pitched singing sound that enerves you after a few days.
The ride for me (1,93m) was rather uncomfortable but at my height you feel very lucky if you find something that fits your size (my seat on the Honda Africa Twin is raised 20cm).
The good things are really good and you forgot to mention the best feature of them all: IT HAS REVERSE ! And this is very unique and oh how much better your park and handle your quarter ton Moped in small areas with this reverse. I tried some speedtests in reverse but it's actually really scary to give it the full beans in that direction ;-)
Finally it did not stick with me, the price was too steep and the pain in my back after a week reminded me to wait for a more suitable model.
It is not the one to fall in love with, but it has some + in some -. :) Here is my test ride: ruclips.net/video/ImR74bXMOjs/видео.html
Please dont buy bmw if $15k is too steep for you. Bmw's are for wealthy people
I'm surprised the UN hasn't "sanctioned" BMW for forward, and revolutionary thinking!
Thanks for your video Matt, good on you I got a few chuckles out of today's review. These have actually arrived in Australia for sale I have noted. The rear wheel looks like it came off a Citroen of the 1960's
Rear wheel, '60s Citroen. Funny!
An absolute amazing machine. I purchased same color. Terrific ride
Color?
@@brokenrecord3523 I think it’s a grey color tone. Lots of fun
i never thought it would take so long for the future to catch up with the past. design engineers have been designing futuristic transportation for the past 100 years. its nice to finally live in the future, that was designed, planned; and perfected so long ago.
I love the look as is. All the complaints that it needs color or something is just personal preference. As is, is all i need. That being said, this scooter is limited to a niche customer only. For most americans, this is a weekend toy to go to walmart or to pick up prescriptions at CVS or Walgreens. This scooter could be EPIC if they did just 2 things for the next future model. #1 Increase milage to double the current amount, that means a bigger battery of course, and so what? Just do it. #2 the charge time needs to be 1hour maximum So upgrade the batteries to the best fast charge type and have the connection inout and outputs to use fast charger stations like at the tesla charge locations. Do these 2 things, and you have the greatest scooter of all time. Until then i cant purchase this in its current iteration. The one and only exception to that rule is if for example, my daily car is old and i can tell and feel that something in it will break down soon. This would be the only reason i would purchase this now, is to use as a emergency vehicle to get to work once my old car that is on its last legs gives out, and while its in the shoo being repaired i can use this scooter in a pinch to go to work. So i take it back what i said, i would purchase this scooter as just as an emergency backup vehicle for when or if my daily driver car breaks down. And i would get the benefits of the uses i gave earlier about weekend toy use also. But most likely i wont purchase this even for the emergency back up vehicle reason. Because this costs $13,000 in US. And i took my car in to see how much it costs to fix all the problems, and it will cost $2,500 to fix all the things that my car has wrong with it now. All that being said, im sure in Europe this will be like the Cadillac dream scooter of that part of the world. I mean , if i lived in Paris, London or even Tel Aviv, i can see this BMW as perfect for all these places. But in America, this is just not going to be as useful. But if they improve those 2 things like i said at first. Then it has better chances to sale more in the US then the model as is now. ✌️
PS: I can see if Apple had the balls to get into the electric scooter market, i can see Apple making the ultimate version of a scooter that this BMW had the potential to be, but like the man said in this video, all the cheap plastic parts are so unacceptable. Apple would make a proper version with proper materials. Because Apple does not give AF about saving money on parts.
8500 would be a max price. But 12k, just can't do it.
I'll stick to my honda forza 300. A great machine.
Yes stick with your Honda you are doing more for the planet if you believe in the carbon rubbish never mind about the slave labour to provide all of those PEOPLE with these beautiful electric vehicles that make massive pollution with their dirty blood batteries....people wake up
I had the c Evo as a courtesy bike and loved it, this thing gets me very excited. I must admit though being from Manchester I think the solid wheels are a terrible idea from a security stand point. With something that expensive I'd want to be able to chain it to something secure.
It's so expensive, thieves can't afford to steal it.
BMW could track it..... If it has safety systems like if crash detected it can call police automatically !!
Throw the chain around the rear shock.
I bet all that matt black plastic will look beautiful when it has a couple of years worth of mud and grime on it from use. Love the idea of sneaking up behind traffic and surprising them, fantastic way for a car not to be aware of one's presence and crash into you. What a brilliant idea. Great review. What price?!!!
about 15 k usd
Ótimo conteúdo...
Muito bem explicado.
กรมประทับใจเสียงมันมากอนาคต
All looking good. It's a shame the top box and rack impinge on the rear seat.
I love the styling, but at $12k, they'll have to do a lot better than 80mi range to sell me on it. Time, and improved battery tech should solve that.
NO, mate. The back wheel RESONATES with the functional aesthetic. The back side is all about pushing and yes, it might be basic but its unadorned demeanor promises nothing but push. Am I wrong? I haven't ridden it. Now, color!?! Nah. It's antithetical to it's no-nonsense design. HOW MUCH is it? I want one....I think.
Anyway, I don't like plastic either but I LOVE range, bro. I don't like heavy weight but I LOVE being glued to the road. Marvelous articulation of these trade offs, thank you sir.
Love the cuts (edits), love the sensibility and the humor, dude. Got my sub.
Great review! I've pre-ordered one here in the US, and cannot wait for it to arrive.
I prefer the old Porsche behind this assault on your senses.
@@bobklee2397 ?
I agree with all you say, from a Honda Maxi Scooter, Harley. and Indian motorcycle driver , Florida
I love BMW motorcycles... and this stuff is so neat!
BMW Motorrad popular in THAILAND, especially in Bangkok. But, also on Phuket island and in northern Chiang Mai. Here's our BMW Motorrad F900R review. This Motorrad is made in Thailand. Also Ducati, Harley-Davidson and TRIUMPH motorcycles are built in Thailand not far from Bangkok. ruclips.net/video/ktZEIvKTfTw/видео.html
I really enjoyed watching my favorit South African TV program In Australia.
The solid wheels hve noting to do with looks - solid wheels 10 times more aerodynamic than spoked wheels Great Job
Great video and really considering one of these; thanks 🙏
I'd have one if it had a set of forklift Forks on the front, a Golf bag carrier in the rear and built in solar cells as long a BMW does charge a subscription for heated grips etc!
I agree about the storage. They could have mimicked the front fairing design and it would have looked much better. The rear wheel leaves room for customization. Almost no chance I would ride it regardless.
Is the box sold on subscription like their heated seats?
I test rode one when they first hit the market here. I was amazed how agile and fun it was. I had purchased a 2022 1250RT, so buying one was not in the cards at the time. Keep thinking about it for local rides in town here.
so does this use the same quick charge station as vehicles use?? or do u just plug it in to a standard wall type outlet???
Just watched this again seeing I watched Don review the CE04 earlier today. I agree about the cheap plastic facing you below the dash. Looks dreadful. Such a contrast with the beautiful dash. Everything else I love. Apart from the range and, to a lesser extent, the price. I even really like the top box, which I regard as 'industrial', like I said last time. But... you don't get the sport mode on the base model. That's ridiculous. Maybe you don't really need sport mode, especially in an urban setting.
Great review, top channel.
Hope you're recovering. Nick
I can't work out why I would go for this and not a Zero S with more than twice the range at the same price.
Great show, but would it really be that hard to give an onscreen Euro / GBP / Dollar conversion?
Nice Dyson, Mat. You’ve vacuumed those roads almost to perfection. Your missus will be proud of you! How about testing an iron next? 🤪
I really wish they maxed-out on the range tho. I would put up with the extra weight for an extra 50miles. Would take it into a new realm entirely. Could easily fit a decent battery in the helmet box as an extra.
I saw many e-scooters in China when I visited there 12 years ago. They have shoebox size swappable rechargeable battery. Seems like very popular. I think they banned gas-powered scooters. The escooters were priced less than US$1000.
brand names?
I saw the box and thought - oooooooo I like that... but you did a great job of making me hate it with you. The space on the steering column tho - I think this would take a clever mount for the phone?
I like the square box.
Great review; thanks for posting.
Thank you for this video. Seems to be a great bike if one can live with the range. But my one big problem is.......
The price.
Exactly. Rode one and the range should be better, otherwise a nice scooter. :) Here is my test ride if interested ruclips.net/video/ImR74bXMOjs/видео.html
That plain back wheel is the best part of the whole thing. Everybody is wrong.
Nice review :) When I spent 10 yrs working and living in Bavaria, flitering through traffic to get to the front of the lights (or anyhere else) was a big no no. This was why not many of my biker work collegues used their bikes for work as there was no speed advantages over a car ! Big shame as the roads were great for 2 wheelers :)
We have the same stupid laws in Denmark - filtering is considered reckless irresponsible driving
I wish we had the same law in Switzerland because that’s only the start, in Geneva as soon as they have seen you have seen them they cut your priority, they use their vulnerability as a right of way
@@marcbungener1877 So what. Getting angry over motorcycles skipping the line is the same as getting angry at someone skipping the supermarket line, only they didn't buy anything. You take up the space of at least six motorcycles with your car
This whole video is an answer to 'Tell me you haven't ridden an EUC without telling me you haven't ridden an EUC'
I like it and I want one! I don't mind the box, I sure wouldn't want to be without it!
I'd like swappable batteries.
Love the look.
BMW _Back to the Motor Werks_
Get on with it!
looks like 2 teams developed this, one in the front and one at the back. As a SA living in Bayern.. ich sage ag nee man..
Will stick with the Honda X-ADV for now. Amazing scooter/bike thing.
Are you really comparing this thing to the X-ADV?
@@Yonex333 , when they claim its the fastest and most fun commuter available, yes. No off road excursions for this thing. And with the prices of electricity right now, not to mention the complete lack of storage and range. The X-ADV has this thing beat in all departments.
I love the overall look of the scooter but that long wheelbase doesn’t look kind for weaving around heavy traffic queues
Great review Mate 👏👌
Great looking bike. Think your criticisms were a bit over the top/petty. Nothing is ever perfect. So don’t bang on like it should be.
Great review once again!
The first thing to go over when reviewing any European vehicle should be the warranty.
I was pleasantly surprised quite a nice a review. Normally a review of a German vehicle by someone of the Jeremy Clarkson vintage is a little like the "Don't mention the war" episode of Fawlty Towers,
The back box would not be kind to the aerodynamic profile, either. The shortness of bikes is what contributes to a lot of their drag, so why would BMW add a cube back there? At least have a pad for a passenger as compensation. It looks so dated on something so new.
I like designs that are not afraid to be honest about what they are, and that is certainly what they've done with the CE 04. However, to harp on about aerodynamics (again), I don't see the angularity as a big help. It won't matter too much for scooters, since they're more associated with practicality and fashion than high speeds, but this will matter for faster performance models. Kawasaki in particular seems to be making their new sports bikes as pointy as possible, instead of the shapes of the ZX-14.
The Kamm effect means it might acrtually reduce drag.
With the rider the box at the rear looks fine
Given how simple it is, a battery, motor and some bodywork its insanely expensive, needs to be £2k then people might buy one, its really a glorified eScooter
Totally agree. And the range is crap!
That's not really true at all is it?
"A car is just a glorified lawnmower with some seats and a roof" is what you're saying.
@@verynice5574 how many people can sit on your Chinese escooter? How much luggage can you store on your Chinese escooter? Where can you legally use it?
You've already said it goes half the speed, doesn't have the same range and you can't use it on motorways. You ain't getting 80-100km range on your escooter if you're doing 60km/h on it.
Wind your neck in. They're not even remotely comparable.
@@wellyftw U cant compare a car against a two-wheeler. A motorcycle is a far, far simpler construction, electric or not. Mr. Verynice is right. Its soo overpriced for what it is. U are basicly paying half of the price, just for that badge.
It looks cool though ngl
I like it.
As a town scooter, it does its job but gets the usual negative points for seriously high price. Like the review as usual…….but this can only be the future for a few…….
Shame topbox voids carrying a adult sized pillion, I thought it would I also changed seat to the straight version with no hump but you loose heating and it’s much more uncomfortable. The only fix will be get the Shad box option which uses common sense and mounts behind the seat. Now I have to buy the shad mounting kit and try to retro fit the bmw box since I bought it already, bike is great and I am coming from a 2019 Goldwing DCT.
The roads out here definitely wouldn't like those tiny wheels, I'm surprised they don't make scooters with 17s
Good review but why are you trying to be Richard Hammond
I like it. Wheels could be better indeed.
Would love if it had CCS. Makes it a small tourer.
even if the storage box was turned 90* that might look better and perhaps keeps items from rolling left or right which messes with handling.
I'd buy one if I have money :P
Glad you pointed out that horrible box, blagh
Another great review and honesty 👍Can you put dollars and uk pound apart from Rand in your reviews? Thanks 👍
How much the bike cost
you could put a scale inside the seat, so that you can't accidentally eccelerate whilest not sitting on it
Kind of reminds me of the bike from Akira.
Excuse me, what keywords can I find in this tail box?
My dreaming car would be : very powerful real 4WD car for 2 persons so I can park downtown.
Thoughtful review, thanks. I agree about the rear box… spoils the looks for me. I do, however, like the wheels and belt drive.
Lovey 🏍wheels, will check what it will cost here in OZ.👍🇦🇺
Do you mind saying where you are, at time of filming this video? Thank you.
Where’s the Tron track?
Taking taxi fir the rest of my life will not cost me like this ponny.
What is the range of this
E Scooter?
Dundee: You call that a knife?
Clean and uncluttered,How much they pay you for that sentence
No center stand?
I'd rather have some panniers to hide the back wheel than the top box.
Some nicely styled leather panniers would go well with the bike.
They do a leather (might be look) panier.
No one show the charging connection..
Oh and make it sound like a Jetsons car …….. really that would be icing even if produced artificially
Feel like it should make a synthesised noise like electric cars do. Riding a near silent grey bike in a busy city sounds like an accident waiting to happen.
The seat looks a bit thin.
Looks like it was designed to suck the dirt off a very large carpet. Bet it has the latest spec HEPA filters.
Would be great for them to figure out a way to put some panniers / storage on either side in the back... that could still possibly allow room for a passenger. With that "Box" storage in the back... there's no room to bring along any sort of passenger... unless you just stick a raccoon in the box!
Maybe get the shad rear rack and use something like the Tusk Excursion. Kreiga also makes a system that could work.
That seat looks about as comfortable as a scaffold plank 😕
looks are deceiving, it is a beemer, afterall.
Okay
Agreed, looks awfully uncomfortable 😳
Needs a plug and play battery extender that fits in the storage box I love this scoot but at that price bmw or not it needs twice the range
Yes. Or even more. I am never going to understand why all of the EV bikes and even the cars, have detachable charge cables, that gets thrown into the trunk. Look so trashy. Why not have a cable to drag out of the car?
It looks like a lot of work every time I park. Can't charge the thing, even at home. Or can it use car chargers?
How much in American?
Complimenti per la prova , scooter eccezionale, percorso 23000 km , posso sapere quanto sei alto ? Grazie .
I would prefer a pine tree to fall on me before trying to save the planet by riding that.
Good luck!!!
That box is hideous but I like the bike
100 Km is barely enough to get across town and back
Would I like one? Sure! Would I actually buy one? For that kind of money, not a chance. You could find 2 Burgman 650 scooters with low miles for that price easily. Apples to oranges I know but still that's a lot of money for a scooter.
