Great bike. Just purchased mine a week ago. Fully loaded. I wish this had a it more range. 100 mile range would be the sweet spot. They designed this as a commuter. Yes & no. Why do you need all these modes for around town. It clearly was designed for more than a commuter. I think because of the limited range they called it a commuter. The performance is really spectacular. The regenerative breaking makes this bike even safer and will cut down on break wear greatly.

Very impressed, actually more than that I'm sold. Expensive but look at how well it is designed. So practical and user friendly. And also knowing BMW the chassis is certainly a must, my C-evo feels like it"s on a rail.
Serious question - how on earth do you secure this thing? No way of getting a chain through those solid wheels, the shrouds around the brakes mean no disc locks, and no way of getting a lock through the rear sprocket. You could get a longer chain through the rear shock, but that looks like it can be unbolted in no time. A £10k+ scooter with just the stock immobiliser would be gone in seconds in a city like London. It's like they've made a futuristic city scooter for a futuristic city that doesn't exist.
@@kalel33 You'd think technology would be able to render it immobile, unusable and worthless to thieves. But I read a story about LA car gang who converted a truck into a faraday cage. No signals out. No signals in. For stealing high end cars with trackers.
Recently had the chance to ride one from Blackfoot Motosports in Calgary AB, I find the ride very comfortable, there is definitely power to spare when you are on the highway, as you mentioned that TFT display is awesome...the best part about this is the Fun Factor...it is off the chart!
Motorbikes like this should have two dials to adjust the Throttle response and Regen on the go. It has been said that it is most economical not to regenerate every time you let go of the gas. You should coast and only regen when needed. What I got from this is you should always ride the Rain mode to limit acceleration and regen and then change to eco when you NEED to stop. I guess it works like that ok but you need to know what every mode does.
I like it - looks very cool and would be great for my work commute of around 5 miles a day. The price is way too salty though and puts it way out of reach for most of us. In comparison - I recently bought a Honda Forza 300 with less than 500 miles on it for £4800, which makes the BMW look very expensive. Also, how could it be chained up? I didn’t seem very security friendly. Andy 🏴
Very good design and lot of good functions. I like the reverse on it, my current electric bike can be very cumbersome, when trying to maneuver out of tight spots.

Yeah the headlight is the only thing I don’t love. It’s not quite as square and blocky as the rest of the bike. But I guess the front end needs to be at least a bit aerodynamic…
Definitely interesting. I think that if it had larger wheels would make it more practical. I don't understand why, with that price, all the safety options are not included in the price.
First thing I did was check charging in my area, Northeast Ct, honestly I could travel the state so that’s enough for me. Have to stop for coffee but that’s not an issue and they keep adding more charging stations so that’s ok
As much as I like this concept for scooters and for city commuting , I hope that motorcycles never go electric. There is just something so special about an engine, like the noises and the clutch and the gears the list goes on.
Nah. The noise is just moronic. I heard and saw a bunch of sport bikes yesterday at 21:30 passing a popular lake / park /castle area. All with sports exhaust, popping on overrun, they drove responsible and were attempting to pass by in reasonable anonymity. I think everyone hated it. Even I was on the fence. 😉
I actually like the look of this but the thing I don't like about it is the storage compartment. That space could have been utilised for an extra optional battery pack to give it more range. Also it takes a long time to charge, set the scene, pouring down with rain or it just started snowing, you got 40 mile ride to get home, but the battery is way too low to get you there, you have to sit and wait 2 or more hours just to get home, and what if you don't have a charger at home, or can't charge at home, your bike will be flat the next day until you take it to the nearest charger and wait for it to charge yet another 2 to 4 or more hours. But with the extra space and with an optional battery you could leave that on charge in your house take it out when you need it, won't need to go looking for a street charger, and so on. So it has potential but it still does not address the issue of charge time and charge issues, and what's the point of having a bike that goes reasonably fast if it is only for the city, most cities now in the UK for example are 20 mph. And you won't need to wait in the rain or snow while it charges, unlike this.
Genuinely think this e-bike from BMW does look great but they need to upgrade what’s on offer eg: longer range (125-150 miles at least), higher speed (85 mph max), improved wind protection, heated grips, better storage, larger lights that won’t break if the bike is dropped, slightly bigger wheels and it needs to be cheaper!
I really like the design. I want to see a GT version with maybe midi sized wheels for two up longer distances. Or maybe the similar design language with a crossover looking bike...
If the seat was design better you'll have more cargo space, and fit easily a helmet, next model of this scooter will be a nice thing to see in the future
they designed that bike completely wrong, electric motors can sit adjacent to the wheels and that will save additional 12in on wheel base (but giving the torque Characteristics = wheelie) but software can reduce that. and did they forget how scooters preferred hav storage within the seat and above rear taillights that acts like rear seat rest. and then top speed should be 120mph. the scariest part of a scooter is everyone trying to run you off the road.
this is one of the most impressive things ive seen in recent times. im considering getting a bike license just so I can buy this bike. I already have a hybrid 330e so this would be a nice addition.
Think the design team lost interest from the passenger seat backwards. No passenger grab handle either....that will be fun with a sharp application of the brakes. Should be £6000 tops.
You'd think that would have an in-wheel motor at this point already. Looks really nice and futuristic with some retro flare with the seat though. Range is perfectly fine too with fast-charging. I'd love to see Xiaomi make a similar one at half the price :D
I like this bike but it is a specific use model. That is longer range commuting. For short commuting you’d go for a more compact scooter and for recreation a Zero or Alrendo.
There is a visible gap between the seat and the storage compartment. I don't understand why did they waste that space? Storage could have been larger. A full size large helmet and 2 gloves would fit easily.
Thanks for the great initial review Bob! Quick off the mark as usual. A couple of things I thought about on first seeing this. First and foremost, it looks like a good scooter for city travel. I like the quirky futuristic looks (personal taste obv) the seat looks terrible though and the pillion 'perch' is a serious afterthought. I LOVE the TFT dash! ALL bikes with a TFT take a look at how it should be done! Range is acceptable for what it is intended to do, commute city streets. If you live further than 40 miles then you're looking at charging at work. (No biggie) I would have liked to see a dedicated storage area for the charging cables separate from the 'boot' area. This bike is going to need charging with a small range and the ability to carry the cables without taking up storage would be key if I was designing it. The price....yeah...THAT is a sore one. best part of 12k UK is steep.
Love the design but the problem is still the range. For the costs, you're still better off getting other internal combustion options such as the Honda ADV (depending on where you live). It's a valiant 1st effort but if the goal is to get more riders on 2 wheels and to look to a green future, the price needs to come down and range needs to go up.
The Niu range is the same but fraction of the price. Its home charging though hasn't got the outlet charger like this but i Live inner city and its hard to find chargers anyway.
As a very expensive bike for use in cities, are there enough security features to stop it getting nicked? Looks impossible to put any locks or chains on it
Design is unique and mostly decent but I think BMW designers were almost finished with only rear wheel and went out to celebrate and all hungover the next day just phoned in what looks like a Toyota Tercel steel wheel spare tire. Its conspicuous in its unfinished looking state.
And the highest prices you ever seen.. only the rich will afford them.. I thought they would go down as time goes by.. but instead they just added more capability and raised the prices.. This bike cost over 12000$ and it is really just a replacement for cheap Chinese in city scooters you can buy for about 1500$... A real electric motorcycle like Harley has cost over 30 grand
@@zinta1 agreed. New tech takes time to ramp in production and sheer numbers which reduces price eventually. Sadly its the poor who are going to suffer the most with the ongoing world fuel crisis. Nickel and other prime battery elements are becoming scarce made worse due to the Russia V Ukraine conflict. Dont expect price reductions for a while
@@HabitualFixation 75% of all the electric bike companies that ever existed have failed and are gone.. some had great bikes with really good engineering...but they died.. because as you say... resources to make the batteries.. and PRICE..and some people just wont buy them.. you can expect more failures in the near future... I would expect the electric car and bike industry to take a dive
What´s smart about it? Only a person who never rode a motorbike could say that. The passenger seat is suicide, the helmet storage is just stupid and also small, the looks are shit, the yellow accent colors look like bug stains. It looks like an ugly fish and half-way to the rear the design just changes completely and it turns into a pill shaped clown ride.
They created safety features that exist only in software and they restrict them as upgrades? Dude. That's BS and you should call them out for it if you can. Their ASB pro and FSB pro could save lives. People shouldn't be paying extra for their safety like that. It's like selling crumple zones in a car, but they reinforce them to make them stiff for people who can't pay.
One thing I found out I didn’t like is that crazy pill bottle colored screen is not available on us models. Great, thanks, I’m sure it’s some kind of stupid price for that just because I actually like the weirdness of it. Maybe I can use a spray on stained glass window color on tue back if the clear one.
Great review! I am selling all of my BMW motorcycles and thinking of just buying this scooter for getting around town and over to the gym. Where can I see the total package of options for the bike?
It's not bad, but again it's the RRP that's the problem. Because of that, it's not eligible for the UK government low-emission plug-in grant, it has to be below 10k, including delivery. The under seat storage could've been bigger, there's a large gap between the seat and the storage area, so why not use it; a styling exercise maybe? It's a city bike, so I hope you can attach a rear rack. And, I'd definitely put a larger screen on it - in a different colour!
Nice review, thanks. I would get one just for the design, it really is something special. I even like the rear wheel. But not at that price. Maybe when they come down to sensible used levels.

Love that futuristic look this would work out fine for me. Very cool
this is one of the most impressive things ive seen in recent times. im considering getting a bike license just so I can buy this bike. I already have a hybrid 330e so this would be a nice addition.
Makes me appreciate my 2006 Burgman even more. Great review though.
I'd love to see Xiaomi make a similar one at half the price :D
ola electric scooter from india has already have these features at 1/4 th price.
Not seen this channel before. Great review pal. Nice one
Thanks mate - much appreciated 👍
Love it...would buy one today...except...80 miles, that's still not enough range for me to be comfortable.
(No biggie)
I would have liked to see a dedicated storage area for the charging cables separate from the 'boot' area. This bike is going to need charging with a small range and the ability to carry the cables without taking up storage would be key if I was designing it.
The price....yeah...THAT is a sore one. best part of 12k UK is steep.
Well if you charge at work every day, you put the cable in the storage while you ride, and the helmet in there while you park and charge?
That red Akira bike is becoming each year more and more possible
Really love this bike, I can see a SUITable use for it for sure
Love the design but the problem is still the range. For the costs, you're still better off getting other internal combustion options such as the Honda ADV (depending on where you live). It's a valiant 1st effort but if the goal is to get more riders on 2 wheels and to look to a green future, the price needs to come down and range needs to go up.
The Niu range is the same but fraction of the price. Its home charging though hasn't got the outlet charger like this but i Live inner city and its hard to find chargers anyway.
I'm getting one n
Disagree. It’s a commuter, so range is fine.
Is there a box to put on the back? It really needs more storage for San Francisco. We have to carry jackets and sweaters, rain gear...donuts.
As a very expensive bike for use in cities, are there enough security features to stop it getting nicked? Looks impossible to put any locks or chains on it
That is a good point , even the brake discs are covered maybe you can put a U lock around the belt drive lol.
Keyless & pretty hefty..... Plus track able anyone using it at public charger or turns it on assuming its got sim connected
Looks awesome. Heavy though! I wonder how it compares to the Fonz NKD which has similar cyberpunk styling
I think it looks ace! price is my only grumble
Design is unique and mostly decent but I think BMW designers were almost finished with only rear wheel and went out to celebrate and all hungover the next day just phoned in what looks like a Toyota Tercel steel wheel spare tire. Its conspicuous in its unfinished looking state.
the only best looking ev in the world.. dont why more company's make more bikes like this.... futuristic. feels like we did time travel.. :)
Love the “Judge Dred” design!
Love everything about it except the price.
You gotta love how electric vehicles are bringing smart design to the market with quirky yet functional ideas
@@christianeriksson4733 so I’m guessing you don’t like it? Lmao
Looks cool and I like the concept but with a max of 80 miles it's a second bike and at that price it is about 2x as much as I'd spend.
One thing I found out I didn’t like is that crazy pill bottle colored screen is not available on us models. Great, thanks, I’m sure it’s some kind of stupid price for that just because I actually like the weirdness of it. Maybe I can use a spray on stained glass window color on tue back if the clear one.
Very cool - I love it! Thanks for the excellent review, Bob.
My pleasure! Cheers mate 🍻
I like it, but I need to know if there is support for a top box before I can even consider it.
Superb design, hats off
E-brake with side stand is brilliant
Seems like an obvious features that more bikes should have!
@@motobob They started it on the C600/C650s 10 years ago.
@@redwolfexr thanks for the info mate. Wonder why only on scooters and not on motos?
@@motobob Likely because they are all automatics. Don't really need a brake oin a manual tranny.
Hey nice observations , please suggest if we can modify the CE 04 with a Roof like structure to make it look like micro car ?
Great review! I am selling all of my BMW motorcycles and thinking of just buying this scooter for getting around town and over to the gym. Where can I see the total package of options for the bike?
Hi Bob, what about security? Which locks ? Or does it not need one/
Looks great just waiting for an electric bobber style bike because I’m to short for the sport bike style
I loved the "London" part.... It was accurate.
I dont really like scooters but man i love this one for sure.
“Suitable fot highways” … it won’t have the range to get to the next exit at 70 mph
How does it compare to gas scooters in terms of acceleration? Is it like a 400cc or more like a twin 650?
Loves everything except for the 130km range that's a bit too short, around 200km per charge would be more appropriate.
Are you sure that’s not a Dyson? I did notice how clean the roads are too 🤔
Is the seat comfortable? I don’t understand the design of the seat. Why is this form?
Just wondering will the battery degraded overtime due to usage and fast charging?
