I hate to admit it, but These guys played this album better than Pink Floyd and they did it in one take. They took the original and mastered it. Does that make them better than Pink Floyd? Hell no!
Les is an awesome bass player and I always loved Roger Waters playing on this song, Les does a great job and the whole band really pulls in the 'Floyd Feel'
Les Claypool is one of the best, from a time when musicians still played the music. I know this comment is 2 years old, but if you aren't already, you should be made aware of Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, and Oysterhead. Also his involvement with Buckethead, or Les' more recent solo career. A talented man, with lots of bands.
This is a great cover. They did an amazing job with Animals. Les Claypool is a pretty big Pink Floyd fan, he's really influenced by them, and it shows in his work. He nailed it with this song, and all the others he's done. I really like how Primus did Have a cigar too. But better than the original? I don't think so.
Can you belive Lo Mein actually pulled it off and Lo Mein's those smokes stacks in that one pink floyd album..... That's so funny cause i don't even think you did that album... Why do i feel like I'm at the end and what hurts... Umm just inner support i mean i should of been the first one lucky i won
I think I prefer Roger Waters over Les Claypool in terms of vocals, but he sure does a damn good job with the bass playing. And Jesus Christ, that guitar player completely changes the solo section, giving it a sound that I could never imagine this song having. I'm amazed I lived to see the day that a guitar player ousted Gilmour at his own game. The guitar's got to be by far what I enjoy most about this cover, even though it's just great overall.
@TheGargantuanSock Dude, that's kinda like saying "The guy who invented socks was a genius, but the guy who invented toe socks is way smarter" It doesn't make sense! Everyone has their preferences Les Claypool is one of my all time favorite musicians and I agree these covers are amazing but I don't see how anyone can say that a cover is better than the original.
It's impossible for anybody to cover pink floyd better than the original, no matter how good they are. Dream Theater did better PF covers than this. But I admit this is pretty good even though claypool doesn't even come close to picking up waters' style. He's trying too hard to be heard and it dulls the sound.
Its not about whats better or whos better; Its hard to compare master minds to master minds. Just listen to it and enjoy it. Look at the frog, hes got the right idea..
I love Floyd. I love everything they've ever done. But I have to give it to Les, he took a great song in Pigs and made it a masterpiece. You can't argue Floyd's is better simply for nostalgia. You have to give credit where it's due.
Not true. I agree with the statement that Nostalgia clouds judgement, however David Gilmour's envigoratingly soulful phrasing solo at the end of the piece is what does it or me....not the nostalgia. Not to mention Floyd's synergy is astounding. They have their synchronization down to a t, not that claypool and his fellow musicians do not, to say that I am not aware of floyd's synergy and that there is no way I could find Floyd's version more technically appealing is absurd and fallacious.
I knew nothing about this cover (or Les) before I heard it on satellite radio. I'm a couple years older than Les so am very familiar with PF's version. Forgive me young'ns for being Claypool/Primus ignorant. As an amateur bass player I'm now hooked on this guy's stuff! He is the sh**t!! I too thought NOBODY could credibly cover 'Floyd. I stand corrected.Ordered Frog Brigade 2 and can't wait till it arrives. Thela Hun Ginjeet at Bonaroo knocked my socks off as well. Thanks for the post Sock!
I think Les Claypool is fucking amazing. Possibly the best bass player on this rock. That having been said I personally prefer Floyd's version but that's my preference and I don't expect others to share it but they did write the music that inspired Les so there's that lol
This song gave me the kind of kicks the original did cause I've heard the original so many time that it's kinda worn out for me. I love well made covers, so that they've got some new perspective to the original.
Honestly, I think Les is the only person who can do it and be so good. i can't decide if this is equal to Pink Floyd's version or better than it. As a huge Pink Floyd fan, that's a hard thing to say.
They did the entire "Animals" album, cover to cover and nailed it. I think the Frog Brigade did a brilliant cover of a brilliant album. On of my favorites!
Simply brilliant. No need to argue what version is better, just pay respects to a masterful work.
Very well done, Floyd is hard to cover at the best of times...
I would kill to watch him w buckethead for this...
I hate to admit it, but These guys played this album better than Pink Floyd and they did it in one take. They took the original and mastered it. Does that make them better than Pink Floyd? Hell no!
pennejay if you asked les that, he would say umm no...
I wan't to see claypool do 2112 by Rush
amen
Les is an awesome bass player and I always loved Roger Waters playing on this song, Les does a great job and the whole band really pulls in the 'Floyd Feel'
Well said and well put

I would die happy hearing him w buckethead live.... wish I was aware when I was younger.. esp being such a huuuuge fan of PF Animals album.... / :
THIS IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL,AND I AM A HUGE FLOYD FAN.
Awesome, considering Floyd is hard to cover at the best of times....
one of my fav PF albums covered by one of my fav musicians
This is a great cover. They did an amazing job with Animals. Les Claypool is a pretty big Pink Floyd fan, he's really influenced by them, and it shows in his work. Oh btw... which one's bob cock?
Animals is the perfect Floyd album for Les to cover. These guys Slay this album!!
Wow, this is fascinating. Check out my Guinea Pigs. All the Best and Much Lurve, Les.

Search for "Primus Sucks" on Urban Dictionary friend.
Primus sucks. So Does KMFDM
I think I prefer Roger Waters over Les Claypool in terms of vocals, but he sure does a damn good job with the bass playing.

They are touring this album again in 2023, can't wait for Forest Grove Oregon

you tube comments make it nearly impossible to appreciate music anymore
It's easy to not scroll down..... when you REMOVE ALL YOUR FINGERS!!! DO IT!
Yes and no there is such a thing called IGNORANCE and its butiful
@Frank Lopez you're part of that 90%
Les' voice and Roger Waters are quite similar..
Its not about whats better or whos better; Its hard to compare master minds to master minds. Just listen to it and enjoy it. Look at the frog, hes got the right idea..
@TheGargantuanSock Better than the original Album? Better than Floyd??? Are you high? This is a great cover yes. But you can't touch floyd
Fun Night. I was leaning on the rail. It was late.. The Boys Threw Down.
I love Floyd. I love everything they've ever done. But I have to give it to Les, he took a great song in Pigs and made it a masterpiece. You can't argue Floyd's is better simply for nostalgia. You have to give credit where it's due.
100% man
Yeah, this is better. The only reason you disagree is because nostalgia clouds judgement.

I honestly like pibk floyd but I enjoy this cover better then the original.
I'm not high, I'm on probation lol. it's still amazing
You like it more than Floyd's. That doesn't mean it's "better", a word which doesn't really mean anything in this context.
Exactly
LES CAN KICK THE SHIT OUT OF A BASS , OUTSTANDING WORK.
it's 2-3 years now, i made a sampler with 3 hours of PF covers and this one is still the BEST ...grea, great, great :-)
@PachydermSouthbound Primus sucks.
duh, every1 who listens to primus/les is high.(same with pink floyd tho)
whats your point?
FUCK IT.
SHE'LL RIDE YOU OUT!!! AHAHA

LES CLAYPOOL FOR PESIDENT!!!
@gcard2112 Well no, sorry, there are one or two Primus albums that I don't care for. I never listen to them, so I forgot about them for a minute.
I'm not really familiar with the original, though I am familiar with a lot of Floyd's stuff, but this one of the phattest things I've ever heard.
Honestly, I think Les is the only person who can do it and be so good. i can't decide if this is equal to Pink Floyd's version or better than it. As a huge Pink Floyd fan, that's a hard thing to say.
I retract my previous statement and now feel like a jackass. Oh the joys of discovering inside jokes.
Gotta give Claypool his bass props aye. Some of the music might blow, but skillwise he is always awesome. Loved him with MIRV!
I think Claypool's version is better then Floyd's, Ain't that the magic of having your own opinion.
yes it's way better
@Mis3ryMach1ne i agree with you, i had to listen to the floyd version right after this to be sure though
@guerrillaroach None of the music might blow.
No offense haha, just my personal opinion.
Hey, he's entitled to his opinion. I almost agree. I can't decide which one I like better. They're both amazing performances.
So. Damn. Good. Les may not have the vocal range for some of it but the overall execution is very clean.
Primus Sucks! Love dat psychedelic polka music
One of my all time favorite tune. Re done by master
There's a reason why Pink Floyd is my favorite band and Les one of my favorite musicians, and this is it.
@TheGargantuanSock I agree live is were its at been a fan for some time !
I did not realize there are 3 Pink Floyd bands lol.
The only cover I have ever heard that was worth listening to.
Good; it is...
Great cover of a great band by great musicians. Hard to go wrong.
THE NAME OF THE SONG IS PIGS 3 DIFERENTS ONE...ITS IN ANIMALS
Damn i mean 34 was soiled i mean just more shoes to wear
Hell yeah!
What a brilliant rendition of pigs.
I apologize to the others, but I do agree with you
That face melting guitar solo @ 5:30 😍
They did the entire "Animals" album, cover to cover and nailed it. I think the Frog Brigade did a brilliant cover of a brilliant album. On of my favorites!
Live
Wow! This is fantastic. I knew about Dogs, but now I see most of the rest of the Animals album. I thought I was the lone nut for Animals.
Naw i love that album but this is almost that good in a sense
musics great,singing sucks
Michael Polese lol obviously not a claypool fan
just found out bout this band makes me wanna eat sum
You don't touch Pink Floyd, it touches you ;)
And generalizing is a sign of intelligence.
I'm A King Bee - Pink Floyd (Slim Harpo cover demo from the Syd Barrett years)
Just putting it out there.
I prefer "Butterfly"
Even gt the talk box going on! Bad ass.
"Better" is subjective. It's my opinion.
claypool it's the best of the Best
Amazing song..amazing cover version
@jem7vwhgod Amen!
Look who's trollin
THE. SHIT.
@Logan Collins l
Best covet ever
This guy is the God of bass guitar
Stanley clark, bootsie collins, but les is in a league of his own, lyrics always great!!! Underrated lyricist!!!
Heck yeah!
Well said!
IGNORAT
Used to play this version on bass, when I was 28, just to jam. Guess I just get it.
It's hard to believe that this is the same guy who did the South Park theme! lol Les is a musical wizard!
Better than the original....just sayin
