- My Simple Stick Project Videos have been some of my most watched uploads and this one will be no exception.
A great item to make in the woods, that is suitable for beginners and the more experienced too. These also make great gifts.
I've been fascinated by woodworking lately, I don't have a permanent place yet so in the mean time I really want to get into whittling! I've got a basic knife on the way, and can't wait to try stuff like this out. Thanks for the video, it was so enjoyable to watch!
Seriously love this video 😍 going to be practicing loads 🥰🥰🥰
This guy explains... SO well!!! Holy crap!
Cheers buddy, if you enjoyed it ? Please tell lots of other people
Гарна закладка для книги. :)
Here in Japan and I'm intrigued as to how this will work with bamboo. On the project list.
This is the beauty of RUclips. People that are 4,238 miles, (the distance from australia to japan) can communicate about the simplest things like carving a stick
Great to meet you yesterday, and thank you for your time.
Hi Paul, great to meet you too. The Operation Jackdaw video is up, go have a look
Good job greetings from Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan Canada
Great little project Neil, well demonstrated with nice clear steps to follow. :)
I think I will give that a try!!
Nicely (and wisely) done. All of Canada approves of this fun little carve.
All of you????
Another nice little whittling project to share with my forest school Whittlers. Thank you.
Great video! It inspired me to make an owl bookmark as a Christmas gift - basing it partly on the owl carvings on the ends of spoons (as shown in some of your other videos). I wanted to make the eyes stand out a bit more so I glued in two green cubic zirconia jewels. It looks really good and the jewels weren’t expensive - 25p each for ones that are 3mm diameter.
I liked that little project. One of my times out in the backwoods this past year I was reading a book and discovered that I had forgot to bring a bookmark. I ripped the label off of a spam can and cut out the S.P.A.M. lettering and used that as my bookmark. I liked it so much that I have continued to use the bookmark at home as well. Next time I might try to make one of these. Great little project.
Give one of these a try Lonnie, they make great gifts or a project for your students on courses.
Far north bush craft. Heya good friend small world 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊
@@greencraft4783 great job I’m curious has you modified the opinel knife ? Greetings from Essex 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊
@@johndagostino2451 Glad to see you here as well John. Neil has a great channel and I have been a longtime viewer here.
@@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival yeah I subscribe great minds think alike greetings from the uk 🇬🇧
that looks so sweet!!
Interesting to see you saw that branch while holding it in your knee. Haven't seen anyone do this in about forty years......when we used to cut electrical conduit this way out on installation jobs. Brought back some memories. Thanks
Thank for posting. I like to do little whittling projects like this when I am sitting around the campfire. Great little project!
Really great video, many thanks. Not the best at carving (though trying to improve) gonna try.
Well I have watched this video twice. I went to the etsy shop a while ago and purchased the spoon with an owl on the top. You did a wonderful job on it! So I sat down and carved a bookmark yesterday and I screwed up the face, so later last night, I tried again. This one came better and I want to send to my mom. Thanks Neil, great information from your channel. By the way, I also purchased two of the patches. One went on my bucket hat and the other went on my haversack. Thanks again, John
Only just whtched this buddy what a cracking video
A very nice carve and love the bookmark idea. What a cool little owl. Nicely done!

Hi. I enjoy your videos and hope you’ll do more on whittling and carving. You have a talent and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying Thank You for sharing that talent with us.
Bravo pour cette belle idée de marque-page !! Merci pour le partage. Finalement, quelle que soit la saison, pourvu que le bois à travailler possède une fine moëlle et soit vert. Michèle
Man that's awesome. My angles were messed up but I'm going to make another one. Awesome thanks!
Best video I've seen so far. All other videos on youtube need glues, saws and a lot of stuff.
WOW!!! Thanks for showing! i´m very impressed! I want to try it!
Greetings from Germany
Ralf
Love it! Definitely going to try! Thanks for the tutorial!

I finished mine (out of Chinaberry if it holds up... poor boy invasive mahogany in the yard) -- as a letter opener! THANKS!
i almost knew it would be something useful. will probably try and for sure go out in the woods. thanks.
Nice channel brother
I'm completely new to bushcraft and whittling is one of those skills that I really want to learn.
Do you have any carving wood project vidro... love the Owl Bookmark. Thank you.
👍👍👍
Brilliant little owl , thank you for sharing 😀
Its awesome friend! Nice Vlog keep it up
Hello Sir,
In a video like that, when you try to focus on your hands, what you ought to be doing is turn off auto-focus on your camera.
You switch it to manual, focus on the range you are comfterble with, and stay there.
Auto focus on these kind of shots will cause you a lot of pain hahaha
That was really fun. I think I'll make this for my first carving project. Thanks!
Thanks for a great video. Keep inspiring :)
Thanks Niel super nice project.
Great vid.
I have just started buying equipment to start carving/whittling.
My wife has a thing for owls and books so that could very well be a first item to learn.
Perhaps after that I will learn to carve a teddy bear?
I have just given you a Sub.
Regards, Jas.

Very well explained. thank you
Thanks for a very good idea , carved my first one this morning , needs a little refining, but good fun ...
Amazing, something so simple....love it. Thanks Neil :)
Great lil project thanks for sharing ☕️😉👍🏼
Awesome little calming project 👍🏻
Neil, thanks for sharing, great project 👍
you are a great instructor and this is a great video. I am excited to try it out!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great video mate. Subscribed.
I like this, seems simple enough to make. Also you can get 4 bookmarks from one stick.
Superb, will give it a go when I go up the ponds tomorrow.
Nice work, thanks for sharing the knowledge. Take care.
Brilliant 👍👍👍
Do the pages of your book draw out the moisture of the greenwood?
And there he is 😊
That's really cute
Bellissimo!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇮🇹
Fun! Love it!
This was an amazing video...thx
Hi .. really like this project and will give it a go.
Did your Opinel knife come with a lanyard hole or did you put it in yourself ?
Thanks,
John
i love wittleing i have lots of knives and a sanpaper thing i love it im am gonna ry it
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i am only 8 thuo!!!!!
Omg age dosen't matter grow up and stop using your age as a Excuse it’s stupid and you shouldn’t do it
Well explained. Step by step. Very instructive.
You do not use a standard Opinel, right? The blade profile looks different. Did you reshape the edge? To the tip it looks not that curved.
It is an opinel No8 Garden Knife. They are a great little piece of cutlery (I did a review) and cheap to buy.
@@greencraft4783 Thanks for your reply.
I tried to make 2 at lunchtime. I managed to break off one of the ears both times. How do you make sure they're robust go long-term use?
Oh...💚
Very very skillful, admire jpg.
I started carving about three weeks ago. I've now retired from it, as my fingers are being carved more than the wood.
Do you have recommendations for painting the finished projects?
Never noticed that your Opinel is a drop point. That's been around for awhile based on the wear. Did you modify the shape of the knife? Well done!
It's not a modified one Lewis, it's the No8 Garden model. The blade shape has changed very slightly with use. It's one of my favourite bushcraft knives.
@@greencraft4783 (Neill), Thanks for the information. You do fun carving videos. Simple projects are alway fun.
More ssp (simple stick projects)
Neal, Did you modify that Opinel.
No Lewis, its an Opinel No8 Garden knife
@@greencraft4783 Now I remember! Thanks

I love watching these helpful videos but please tell me why, why, why do they always have to talk to much. They show how & where to make a cut then go into explaining unnecessary details
What was unnecessary Tammy? My aim is to make something that is informative and safe for folks of ALL abilities. I include what I think is necessary to deliver that. If you can help me achieve that goal, please let me know.
