Mason hetherington yeah he has his thumb angled down a lot more like Flea, but nowadays he has his thumb angled upwards to allow double-thumb stokes, a bit more like Marcus Miller.
It is a passive bass, the difference resides in the electronics and in the pickups. Active pickups need a 9v battery to work, passive pickups don't! (There is also a difference in the tone , etc) :) hope it helps
Davie, in the event you start your own band or become a bassist in an existing one, you would do well!! My man, keep rockin' the house and be cool.....
I have been a rock/metal guitarist for 35 years. I can recognize true talent when I see it. You got it, buddy. Anyhow, are you using flatwound or roundwound strings? I tried to get a close-up, but I couldn't tell. Also, what equipment are you using for your videos? I have top-notch equipment, but I am at a loss as to how to pull off the splicing and dubbing of extra guitars and other instruments over the initial track. I also plan on inserting a plethora of vocals into my videos, so I'm wondering the same for the harmonic voices, as well. Thanks, man!
i believe those are roundwound strings if my eyes are to be believed. as for the extra audio, you can overlay multiple audio tracks when you edit, and as long as you sync they right it should come out like this. as for the music while you play if that helps you play, you can have it playing on a stereo or something, remove the ambient audio and only use the audio from sound output for the bass
Hello First of all, you're damn amazing When i see and hear that, i feel like sellin my bass cause i won't ever be that level What is your tuning on this song ? Greetings from France ;)
The groove was very good, but the bass tone and recording was outstanding. If you don't mind divulging your trade secret, what are you using to get such a clean, punching audio recording? Good work.
ima noob (old almost blind noob too) but that blending, that is just most awesomeness and like t m stevens speaks about putting the funk and rock together but in balance. you did just that i think. i enjoyed so very much i subscribed lol - but to answer i like both rock and funk just like this! this! brightest blessing to you and just keep blending them for us
I don't think so: okay, it's not an impro, but I can still fell some groove. Oh, almost forgot: if you can record a solo like this (it was 3 years ago, he was even younger) with the right amount of groove, call me.
Cuthbert Threepwood Look it's just a bit funny that such a static performance has 2.8m views. It's hardly a great example of bass playing, worthy of drawing in that kind of attention. Out of all those hits, I'd imagine a lot of fresh faces left with the impression of bass being boring.
that was awesome. nice to see 2 million people digging the bass. your style is very influential and is spreading like wild fire. keep doing what you do. hope to see you live, maybe at a festival someday. you should post show/venue info if you haven't already. a funk rock power band=excellence. thanks
I started playing about 3 years ago (now), in this video i was playing for over one year :)
noob
Bqube h
This is only 1 year of practice? Damn.
This is probably your least liked comment
what did you studied to do these grooves and left hand techniques?
Wow his slap technique has really changed since then.
Yeah, it's got quite smoother
Will Vickery he is doing the flea slap there (red hot chill peppers bass player)
Mason hetherington yeah he has his thumb angled down a lot more like Flea, but nowadays he has his thumb angled upwards to allow double-thumb stokes, a bit more like Marcus Miller.
Will Vickery he actually had to adjust a bit in this video bc he was tuned to d standard which makes the string much looser
Will Vickery His slap form is incorrect in this video because you can't double thumb slapping like that, The Bass Wizard made a video about it
D Standard :)
This videos should kill me........

It is a Standard D tune :)
OMG :)
Man that tone is absolutely impeccable.

I just practice a lot at home :) I'm self taught
It's so weird seeing davie talk normal

This bass is passive! In this video i used an Hartke A35 amp :)
As a bass player I saw this video all those years ago and I have to say this is still one of the most creative bass playing videos I've ever seen
I remember when I saw this and it was just a regular "some guy who plays bass really good" video
Funking right! :D

I used a Q-Tron and a compressor! :)

What bass model is that?
Fender Jazz Bass classic '60 Series :)

Ritchie's Fantastic Magical Parties I wouldn't say that. Probably just because we both watch bass videos.
Thanks for the compliment ^^
nobody can listen the flagrant lack of groove? Yes he can makes his finger run all over the bass but the groove is not there I mean at all!
Don't worry you're not alone. It's a bit of a set piece, tried and true routines, no improv, static.
I don't think so: okay, it's not an impro, but I can still fell some groove. Oh, almost forgot: if you can record a solo like this (it was 3 years ago, he was even younger) with the right amount of groove, call me.
