Great talk! I've never watched a John Wayne movie. Is this one your recommend as an intro to his work, or are there some earlier ones that might be better?
whhhhhaaaaaaa!? Never watched a Wayne movie, thats wild! It probably depends on what you are looking for but this is the absolute definition of a "classic western" for sure. It's also awesome to see Dean Martin in this type of role as well.
This one would be a great one to start with since it is more of a modern film or his previous western the searchers. After that then go and watch earlier ones like stagecoach to see how he developed his approach to westerns over time
@@CriticlessBlaine I did get pretty excited when you guys mentioned Dean Martin. 😂 My dad was an Eastwood guy, but Wayne was a little early for him so I just never got a proper introduction.
I'm a huge fan of this one so thanks for getting into it. Great talk.
You bet. Thanks for watching!
The new 4k Blu-ray of this is fantastic. Pretty sure they went back to the original camera negative, and scanned it at native 4k.
that's amazing, can't wait to pick it up!
I read somewhere that John Wayne really hated the ending of High Noon, and did Rio Bravo as a kind of counterpoint.
I read something like that too, where he thought High Noon was a bit too communist so he wanted to make a movie in response to it
See EL DORADO (1967). Almost as good. The combination of Wayne and Mitchum is fantastic. Also directed by Howard Hawks.
Will do!
Yeah, it’s basically a remake of Rio Bravo
