    Years ago My Dad & i went to buy a .410 from a local gunshop, A row of 15 guns with barrels like stovepipes. One old worn brown webley bolt action but its barrel was perfect, Cost us £15. Had its full choke opened out to 1/2 choke & it was deadly. Had it for years & pulled countless shots off with it that were the equal of any 12 bore. Gave it away to a farmer friend when Dad passed away. He is equally impressed with it.

      Greetings, Great story! So like millions of American shooters who started their shooting/hunting experience w/,410 bore, good old tools you kept around for everything! Did not know Webley made bolt actions, bet that old scattergun is still out there getting it done! (BTW, my "starter" was a Mossberg 20ga.) Blsgs, stay safe, enjoy; SY, gg

      I had the same gun when I was 12, back in 1980. A single shot with an auto ejector. nice gun. Sadly, my dad sold it for another gun which he eventually gave to me. But I wish he’d never have gotten rid of that .410.

    Like most that have posted comments I love the 410 and has accounted for a great deal of vermin over the years at the correct range and cartridge for that range and quarry.
    There lies the problem with the UK heading towards lead free finding a suitable alternative load for humane dispatch in the smaller calibres.
    Steel in the larger pellet sizes even in a 3" rolled crimp with a plastic wad just won't give the pattern density required for reasonable self imposed ranges at live quarry.
    Bismuth on the other hand ticks all the boxes apart from the price tag of £1,500-£1,700 per thousand, which sharp mounts up if you're using 3-4k per year.
    I've shot nothing but a 28 bore for the last 5 years for driven and walked up reverting back to the 20 and 12 for none toxic use on duck and geese.
    Due to the lack of alternative lead free loads from manufacturers for small bores that will provide similar down range ballistics apart for the aforementioned bismuth I can see my small bores been moved to the back of the gun cabinet.
    When I contacted eley gamebore and express they all said the same when there is demand they will invest in alternatives for the smaller bores.
    Hopefully your and other RUclips channels that are currently running small bore shows will drive this demand that the manufacturers need 🤞
    In the meantime currently trying to put together a 19gram 4 Steel with plas wad together for the 28 bore but will be nowhere near the current 23 and 25 gram 6&5 lead fibre loads I use.

    • @NWer-c5u
      @NWer-c5u Год назад +1

      Winchester and Federal both load a 3/8oz ~11gram, Fe6 load @1400fps. It would be great if those were imported or a domestic producer started making something like them. Ballistic Products in the USA has 410 steel load data and TPS steel wads for use in Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls. Those wads are light enough to ship over the pond and currently run 0.081 pence/each. If a gun can shoot it safely, reloads with Fe5 have been working well for closer in, ≤25m, partridge and ducks landing over decoys. Downside is both the Win/Fed loads + BPI TPS wads are all HDPE wads. If Hull or another were to load them, there could finally be some biowad type offering for 410 steel.
