  • Lewis Hamilton momentous first week at Maranello at the start of his Ferrari adventure is the focus of the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast.
Scott Mitchell-Malm and Jonathan Noble join Edd Straw to ask how the impact of his first Ferrari test compares with debuts in history, and what it says about just how big a story Hamilton’s move to Maranello is.
We also run through what Hamilton has been doing at Maranello, both behind the wheel on off track, in preparation for his first season in red.
We also take questions from The Race Members’ Club covering the value of the Fiorano test and how simulator running can be used in preparation, as well as what to expect from Hamilton’s steering wheel.
There’s a look at what operational differences Hamilton will face at Ferrari compared to Mercedes, and what is challenging about adapting to this unique team.
The battle between Hamiton and team-mate Charles Leclerc, and their driving styles, plus how this move might impact the seven-times world champion’s legacy are also among the topics.

I loved watching Lewis soak this up… he looked so energised and happy. And I think he needed to feel the love that the Italians appeared to be giving him again. So I’m excited to see what he can do… this is going to be brilliant. Even one win for Ferrari will see him go down as a legend

Why do people forget that when Shumarcher came to Ferrari, he was only a two-time world champion, same as Alonso, in fact, vettel was the biggest champion ferrari had ever signed, no other driver move in the entire F1 history has been this big or this talked about regardless of the times

What I notice people always glossing over is Hamilton finished third in the drivers Championship in 2023, ahead of LeClerc, Sainz and Alonso (who everyone keeps saying, is this great driver) with zero wins and only six podiums. Give this man a car that is only little bit better than the one he came from and the rest of the grid's got problems.

On the commercial side, if ferrari bring out a new hyper car "LH edition" would sell like hot cakes!

You guys just talk from left to right, not sure about what you're talking about. Too many ifs is not an answer.
You dont put the light bulb ms under your bed to get light.
Charles has been overhyped with no statistics to prove any claims about him. If defeating his teammate is his best, then good luck to him.
Ferrari wants to win the championship, not win a few races, and Charles could not do that. He has been with ferrari since 2019. How long do you need to prove to be a champion? Hamilton did that within 2 years of him joining F1. It doesn't matter to Hamilton at this age if he loses Saturday to him, Sundays would be the decider. Charles dont have the stamina for being consistent and lack the ability to drive in the wet. Hamilton would change the entire working environment and bring consistency to the team.
Your analysis lacks a critical understanding of why ferrari signed Hamilton. Signing a driver who stopped ferrari 3x from winning the championship is a big plus and also reduces the contenders to just one driver Max. Just look at the grid and tell me which driver can pose a challenge to Max in a competitive car?
Has Charles won any race starting from 10 grid places and lower? In a race, all drivers finish? We have seen Hamilton do that in his junior career.
The fact is Hamilton was signed to bring the titles to ferrari, and that is what he is going to do. Hamilton isn't there to challenge Charles.
It is a new Era for ferrari, and it is Hamiltons Era.
Now that he has left Mercedes, no one is talking about Russell winning the championship. Did he not destroy Hamilton? So why is no one talking about him winning the championship?
Do you only talk about Hamilton because he brings you the clicks and money? i suppose no, because you know that Russell was a manufacturer product. His victory over Hamilton was aided and Toto don't even believe in him.
If Max genuinely destroyed Hamilton in 2021 to win the wdc, he would be celebrated, but no, he is not. The internet keeps talking about a so called washed up guy Hamilton, why? Because the truth is known to all who cares about sports, that he hasnt been defeated genuinely. Max came to the top on an Escalator and subsequent win was aided with more cheating.
Last year before the season it was all about Hamilton and now the same.
I thought Hamilton was already washed up.

This lot don't like, Hamilton at all. They don't even try to hide it. It's just no other driver can draw eyes in the same numbers.

So basically my take away from your podcast is, Lewis might win a couple of races, Le Clerc should be miles ahead of him & if he's not he's a right dud. So Gentlemen why has Ferrari hired Hamilton? I'm puzzled

Ferrari hired him because Charles has not been able to secure a championship despite being more then half a decade with them, plain and simple.

Correct. Hamilton probably brings more value to the company finishing 20th than Doohan does by winning a race.
