Religion has an identity with the followers of a particular religion, whereas the public life encompasses everyone irrespective of religion.

I got a question that is not connected to the discussion but what is the chirch theological explanation against gay people.

This is probably not the right video for this question. But have a listen to Ravi Zacharias's argument: ruclips.net/video/nPYRXop7aPA/видео.html

We should celebrate religious practices that do not condemn our very being!
Christianity has reformed somewhat yet maybe some of the more devout Christian may struggle to be educated out of rigidity, although it has made far more headway than some other religious ideologies.

@Marianne Havisham And of course you are very entitled to your opinion.
I btw did not mention anything about right wing or left wing! Extraordinary interpretation of what I posted.
If I was speaking about politics I may be able to comprehend how you may have reached the conclusions you did... but anyways no matter!

A gay Christian is like a steak munching vegetarian.

This felt more like it belonged on the af rather than the neg, and I think this is due to the 2 sides interpreting the question differently. Ozanne seems to call for religion to be largely removed or restricted in power, but not in public life as a whole. Or at least not all people in all ways as a whole. This in part agrees with the af who have largely been arguing against the idea of religion in politics rather than all areas of public life.

I hate the word spiritual, what does that even mean?
Ask 12 people what spirituality even is and you will get 12 different answers.

As a hardcore antitheist, I have to admit, she makes a good argument. A lot of people need religion.

Maybe? But I don't believe there's any hard evidence of that.

The universe is a very scary place, it takes a lot of courage to face reality.
Maybe some people aren't strong enough?
      I'm not really sure.
You could be right, who knows?

@Marianne Havisham Agreed. I come to these debates (mostly on subjects I'm already interested at) looking for a good argumentation, logic, and focus on the question itself. Which means that I may prefer someone's argument on a cause that I'm against (or at least that I don't personally agree) just because it was carefully developed. And the contrary happen as well, disliking some arguments on subjects I agree simply because of poor argumentation skills.

Agreed. Her argument about fear was spot on. If agnostics(like me)and atheists believe their ideas are strong enough they shouldn't be afraid of religions discourse.

She says it is hypocritical to not allow prayers on TV whilst celebrating a date in the calendar which is centered around the birth of Jesus - She is a gay Christian!

She describes the universe as a creation and implies it must therefore have a creator. You first must demonstrate that it is a creation and you do that by demonstrating the creator. She can't do this so should hold back on describing the universe in this way.

If a religious belief is a peaceful practice, of course we should welcome people's freedom of will to choose what they personally believe.

You don't have to totally ban religion from public life, only the there Abrahamic religions.
That would solve every problem not only in England but globally!
The Devine always should be a part of social life but not represented by the abominations that are the monotheistic, misogynistic, divisive religions.

    • @maria369

      @maria369 4 года назад

@J W Nope you haven't, if you had you wouldn't have asked what abolishing them would accomplish.
Obviously you know nothing about monotheistic religions their origin, their beliefs how they differ from other religions and how they have affected human history since they were created.
