Would it be easier to just make a separate cover for the knee pad? Hole in your pants you can throw it away hole in separate cover much easier & cheaper.

Do you have to use the knee pad with the pants? Or do they just work on their own as well?

Interesting knee pad setting, only problem I see with the design is, that this set up will rip the hell out of the outer cloth layer of your pant, and after 1 to 2 days you'll have a darn hole in the pants at the knee!!,...Not pretty sight!!,.....

No you won't. I've used these pants for 3 years, not a single hole in them on the knee sections.

Nah. I've been pretty rough on a pair of 5.11 pants that have internal knee pads like this. No holes yet.
