I use vanilla TP-Link and the UI is adequate imo, I would try OpenWRT on mine if it was supported but its an ancient thing from the late ADSL/2 era if it ever stops refusing to die I was gonna try one of those banana pi based routers on aliexpress since you might as well assume all hardware is unsafe the next best thing is being able to control the software.
